Washington -- The Washington Supreme Court, for hardly the first time in judicial history, has rendered a ruling that is at the same time legally correct and morally wrong.Yes, as the court ruled Thursday, state law enacted by the 1998 passage of Initiative 692 does require that anyone mounting a "compassionate use" defense in a marijuana-related crime must meet specific criteria.
And, yes, Sharon Lee Tracy failed that test. The California doctor who approved her use of medical marijuana was not licensed in Washington and thus doesn't meet the I-692 standard. The 6-3 majority also rejected Tracy's attempt at a Constitution-based defense, in part because she failed to produce a copy of her California medical marijuana card. "It appears," the court says, "that the card was never returned to her after the police seized it at the time of the original search." She couldn't make her case because the cops never gave her property back? Good News: Peace Wreath OK To Stay
Homeowners association in Pagosa backs downNovember 29, 2006By Shane Benjamin, Herald Staff Writer The homeowners association that threatened to fine a Pagosa Springs couple $25 a day until they removed a peace wreath from the front of their home has recanted. In a letter to Lisa Jensen and Bill Trimarco, the Loma Linda Homeowners Board of Directors wrote: "We had a misunderstanding with your 'Christmas decoration' and for that we apologize. We withdraw any and all previous requests for removal of your decoration." On Tuesday, Jensen said she is happy the homeowners association dropped its complaint, but she still doesn't understand why the board targeted her holiday decoration. Jensen hung the wreath - complete with lights and a red bow - on Nov. 19. Thanks, whig!
When I worked in Live Theatre, I developed a love for Stagecraft. When I think of building something, I think of building it Sixteen feet tall, and Thirty feet wide, the height and width of most stages. Walls that spin around when the lights go down, and presto, a new scene in less than three seconds! It gives you chills when you sit in the audience on Opening Night, and see all your mechanisms and artwork empress the Classists. The "OOOHHHHs!" and the "HOW DID THEY DO THATs!" It gave me chills! Brigadoon, I think everyone is familiar with that one, was my favorite one! We built smog machines from scratch out of two fifty-five gallon drums to feed the fog scenes of the Brigadoon Forest we also built. There were huge Rock Platforms and stair cases that we moved around all over stage in different configurations, for different scenes. HMS Pinafore, is another good one. We built an entire foredeck, with rope ladders, Huge ship's wheel, cannons that fired, Huge British Flag drops. Stagecraft is very interesting. Everything is built with exact precision, but Larger than Life. I miss it.Toke.

A Couple Articles on Peace Sign Wreath
Homeowner Won't Hold Her Peace***November 28, 2006What a difference a year makes. In 2005, the outrage story of the season involved clerks at discount stores wishing customers "Happy Holidays." Apparently to millions of shoppers - particularly those who listen to right-wing talk radio - a Happy Holidays greeting was considered an insult. Retailers responded immediately, plastering Santas everywhere and hiding the menorahs for fear of engendering the unholy wrath of the likes of Bill O'Reilly. This year, the controversy is over peace. I'm relieved to report that it appears most Americans are for it. Complete Article: http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_4731177***Ordered to Remove that Satanic Symbol – the Peace Sign***Tuesday, November 28, 2006By Lisa Pampuch A recent news story illustrates the dangers that ignorance and intolerance pose to our free speech and private property rights. It also illustrates why I don't live in a neighborhood with a homeowners association. The Associated Press reports that the Loma Linda Homeowners Association, which imposes its will on and collects association fees from property owners in a 270-home subdivision in Pagosa Springs, Colo., ordered Lisa Jensen to remove her Christmas wreath.Complete Article: http://www.gilroydispatch.com/opinion/contentview.asp?c=199677***Support Rolls in for Peace Sign***November 28, 2006By Thomas Munro, Herald Staff Writer A Pagosa Springs homeowner who was ordered to remove a peace-symbol wreath from her exterior wall has been swamped with supportive calls and e-mails and inundated with state and national media interest. Lisa Jensen, who was told she would incur a $25-per-day fine by the Loma Linda Homeowners' Association for each day she displayed the wreath, said Monday e-mails had been coming in at the rate of one per minute, mostly in support of her stand against the homeowners' association. "I've had several calls from people offering to pay a part of the fine," Jensen said. "I've been telling people we hope (the homeowners' association) ends up dropping it." Peace Wreath
I've discovered...for peace's sake...in my family...I better not make one. My husband, who served in Guam during Viet Nam says they always remind him of defeat and he doesn't like them...he just doesn't let them upset him. I didn't tell him that I was thinking about making one. Therefore, to respect or honor him...I won't do it. But I think they are really so right for Christmas. "Peace on Earth. Good will towards man." Kind of like a simple prayer, they are.Toker...I hope you post pictures of your wreath.

Great picture.
That's it. The size is great. It will fit perfectly on the SIDE on my house that is visible for blocks from the main road. What do ya think? White lights, or muti-colored? Looks like they might have made that out of a four foot square piece of plywood. That might be the most durable for outside. Wolmanized (treated). Think I'll use the Fir garland. The hoops are still at Wal-mart, but a seasonal item. Forgive me, Hope. I know you don't partake anymore, but I just couldn't resist. "THE POPE, HOPE, SMOKES DOPE ON A ROPE!"Let's have fun and see if we can get some National Attention somehow, during the Holidays. I wonder how many houses will have "911 Was an inside job!" spelled out in lights? Or maybe just "911 Truth". Hey, what about "END CANNABIS PROHIBITION!" in lights? HMMMM.Toke.

That's a better picture of the wreath.
I magnified it and it appears that she's closely twisted lighted garland around something...maybe a hula hoop itself. There are mini-lights, it appears, with green wire. Maybe it's a seperate string of lights she entwined with the fir or pine...maybe real stuff...but I think it's a plastic garland she's used. It looks good.Obviously good enough to start an uproar...that will likely be heard of all over the world.

I'm sure I have.Coat hanger wire won't hold the shape of a very large wreath when it's hung. I've tried it before. You could make a small one though, that way. If you had a way of twisting several wires into something stronger, cable like, it would probably work (as it does with the larger barbed wire wreaths)....but otherwise, it will droop into an oval when it's hung. At least mine, did.

Thanks for all the input. That must have been something to have lights with a Peace Sign on your roof. I like how people wire their houses to the lights using music too. http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=NN00Mbks7oY&search=tran%20siberian%20orchestra

Peace Lights ...
For Christmas 1968 I convinced my dad, and mom too, to let me make a peace symbol on the roof of our house with tree lights.I did it for a couple of years ... it was visible from a busy artery at the edge of town, so many saw it ...Maybe wire it with coat hangers ... HMMMMMMMM

Making wreaths....
There are several different methods. I've made them using cedar branches wired together. You should be able to form a good version of one out of bendable and straight twigs...then wire greenery around them...or leave them bare.Look around. Maybe there's an old barrel ring you could start with as a base. Bet Stick could find a way to whip you up a nice base for one. You can tie greenery and or lights to it. If you have the right equipment you could cut it our of plywood or some rat-wire or something. Anything heavy enough to hold it's shape and to attach our greenery and a hanging loop to.I'm thinking bent twig wreathes could be turned into peace symbols with the right placing of the right width ribbon or sticks. It would take a pretty heavy gauge wire to form one that was fairly large, but it could be formed with wire. The way acting, a peace symbol wreath formed from rusty barbed wire might be a good one.I like the peace symbol you used at Freedom to Exhale. It's beautiful and peaceful.

I lived in England, close to London, from autumn 1959 to summer 1963. I got hold of one of those early black-pin/white-symbol peace buttons. Had it for years, alas, disappeared into memory ...I was just a kid, but peace sounded like a good idea then, too.http://www.cnduk.org/pages/press/060404.htmlhttp://www.lib.berkeley.edu/~lcushing/addpages/PeaceSymbolArticle.html

Collapsing
I haven't kept up with it...but I'm sure we are going into deep debt to be fighting all these wars we're involved in. Deep debt is a hole that weakens the entire structure...so this government that was behind this has already dug out the foundation from beneath itself. We'll start over with something better...or with the original plan. Government in the United States has come to mean prisons and wars. Prison and war are it's biggest industries. We don't even try to make anything worthwhile anymore, it seems...just more prisons and more war.

Remember Afghanistan
The USSR didn't last much longer after that.It certainly wasn't capitalism that sent the Red Army to overrun Kabul.I think partly they shared the illusion with Bush and the neocons that one could modernize and democratize a country by war. They saw it as part of the "class war" -- that's Marx's idea. War is supposed to be a natural part of the progression to socialism, according to Marx. Some people to this day still try to paint the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan some regrattable but excusable part of the global class struggle AGAINST capitalism. So you see, war isn't ONLY caused by capitalism. We think it's about capitalism NOW because the Soviet Union is no longer on the map and people are conveniently forgetting it ever existed.

After the Soviet Union collapsed, they had an economist on the Lehrer News Hours who had predicted its collapse. I think he got a Nobel Prize or something. I forgot his name.He reminded the interviewer that he was also predicting the collapse of America.America???? How could that happen? He said that military economy is unsustainable and any country that overinvests its national resources in war is headed for doom in the long run.He said the USSR collapsed because it overinvested its resources in the economy of war, and we risked being the next big power on the list.

Their attacks.
They attack not only the hope and symbol of peace...but the people who want it...like Cindy Sheehan. That's about as low and unreasonable as an anti-peace person can go...calling peace makers, "devil worshippers".It's really scary in that they are so closely and unconciously, perhaps, aligning themselves with the witch burners of the past.

I so agree, FoM.
"The Peace Sign to me is flower children, flowers in a gun and no more killed soldiers."As we all know, there are many enemies of peace. They cannot tolerate the thought of peace and they will attack it, or the selected sign or symbol for it, however they can. They really just want to make trouble, I believe, and try to cast a bad light on those that disagree with them. It's hard to believe they even believe that stuff...but I do believe they want to scare other people and cause trouble and unrest. It's what they like to do. Dramatics. Stir up an uproar. Arouse hatred and fear and doubt. It's what they do.

That link you posted gave me the feeling of a minister who believes in spooky type things. Follow the stuff that means nothing it seems to be saying. People can use a symbol as an expression of harmony. They are always trying to make something out of something perfectly normal. Symbols can interwine because they just do. The Peace Sign to me is flower children, flowers in a gun and no more killed soldiers. That is a good feeling and one that should be thought of as the right thing.

Peace signs
The wreath controversy reminds me of something that really put some distance between my dad and I. It happened about ten years ago but is still as fresh as if it happened yesterday.I was at his place in Reno, and I woke up and put on a t-shirt that a friend had made for an organization he conceived but never actually launched which he called the World Peace Foundation. My dad (WWII veteran, of course) saw the shirt and got angry. Can you imagine? Angry that his son believed in peace. His neighbor across the street was an old RAF fighter pilot, and he was worried about being embarrassed by my shirt, that the guy would see that I was some kind of "peacenik freak" (my words, not his, but that was what he felt) and think that he (my dad) was into peace also. Perish the thought! That incident really blew my mind, because it showed me that he had no affinity for peace at all, 60 years after fighting in WWII. It proved that he believed in war more than peace and cared more about what his neighbor thought than what I believed in. It was very damaging to our relationship. As said in other posts, it really shows some serious psychological imbalance when people are offended by a sign of peace.

The Prince of Peace
Who's that? A detainee at Gitmo? The peace sign is a sign that peace is out of the box.War is war. All is fair in love and war. Any kind of war. War on drugs, war on terror, war on reason, war on the Constitution, war on peace. It's a new day for war again today. War on medical marijuana 'users' is really cool too. Any kind of war these days is inside of the box.Killing is the thing to do these days. It's all over the place. Death is a commodity.Peace is divisive. War rules these days. Peace doesn't have a chance. The flag-draped coffins coming home from Iraq are testimony that death is where it is all at these days.Jesus Christ would have been killed by the current US government. The 'War President' probably would have had him put to death. Terry Schiavo was 'put to death,' for her own good, of course.Peace causes irreparable harm to the current 'government' that has been absconded by the damned 'warmakers.'The Three Kings of the Orient came to honor the Prince of Peace. Too bad the modern day 'rulers' don't have the common decency to do the same. Peace doesn't pay, war does. The only gifts the current crop of kings have to bear is war. It's so cool.Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, George Bush, John Walters are the Kings of War. That is all that is on their minds.

Toker00I don’t understand any reference with the peace sign to Satanism except that I understand when people reject Christ God Our Father; reject, “love one another,” they will not think clearly. War mongers are smart yet they are dumb. The peace sign simply signifies peace and is an anti war sign in general.I don’t think anyone else will have an answer to how the peace symbol relates to Satanism either. It is I think, the first time I heard such bull.An then consider this:Just to get their way, some warmonger uses the satan word to get the peace sign removed. Just because they say it doesn't make it so, but because they say it gives power when relating to others of like mind, when and because they both identify with rationalizing something sinful like war, killing, murder etc. That type of thinking has produced cannabis prohibition.Just because the war mongers say cannabis causes cancer, doesn't make it so. But because one war monger says it to another creates a platform / wave length that otherwise may not exist.

FoM, it's Rejection.
Rejection of truth, beauty and goodness.Rejection of God.In the physical life, mortals may be outwardly beautiful though inwardly unlovely.
Spiritual (soul) death. -see Urantia paper 112Survival doesn't come from winning or surviving war; it comes from obeying the Christ / choosing eternal survival.A choice of destiny acceptance or destiny rejection.War mongers create a world of toil.Like telling a lie; one lie covers up the next lie...Committed war mongers must direct their thought patterns to rationalize war and leave spiritual reality behind."Love one another," gets losts and rejected.
