Pot Critics Should Have a Chance To Speak

Source: Nevada Appeal

Nevada -- A Clark County judge made the right call last week when he ruled that elected officials and police officers should be able to give their views on a statewide ballot initiative that would decriminalize marijuana. The judge said those officials have a right and a duty to publicly discuss political matters like Question 7, which would legalize marijuana possession by adults.
While we agree that's dangerous territory (you wouldn't want a school administrator advocating one school board candidate over another, for example), the marijuana advocates are building their campaign on specific assumptions that require an answer from the police and from government officials.Specifically, they say their initiative would benefit police by freeing up their time and allowing them to focus on serious crimes. Without the input from police, we would have to accept that as fact. Yet no Nevada law enforcement agencies have stepped forward to endorse those views or to say they are unduly burdened by enforcing marijuana laws. Likewise, the pot legalization advocates say taxing the drug would generate a great amount of tax revenue, another statement that deserves vetting by those best qualified, even if they happen to be government officials. Do you think the marijuana advocates would be so concerned if police and government views were supportive of legalizing pot? Not very likely. The complaints filed by the group amount to an attempt to silence those who oppose them.It represents another example of their lack of credibility in Nevada. How could we think otherwise when we watched supporters of the ballot initiative - funded almost entirely by out-of-state money - chant at an appearance of a federal drug policy official, "Czar go home, leave Nevada alone."We wholeheartedly agree with half of what they're saying.Source: Nevada Appeal (Carson City, NV)Published: November 5, 2006Copyright: 2006 Nevada AppealContact: editor nevadaappeal.comWebsite: http://www.nevadaappeal.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Regulate and Control Marijuanahttp://www.regulatemarijuana.org/ Panel Debates Pot Initiativehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22343.shtmlMarijuana Proponents Light Up TV With Adshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22342.shtml Mr. Walters Goes To Nevada http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22284.shtmlDrug Czar Criticizes Nevada Proposal To Legalize http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22273.shtml

Oh my did I give her a sweet ear full and made her laugh. I said lets win tomorrow and she said half giggly yes. It was really pleasant and I had to say something about it.

That is very interesting. I agree with you about Lieberman. The one call we got from the Democrats was nice and very happy when my husband told him how we were going to vote. He added though that we will hold your feet to the fire and she thanked him and she said please do.As soon as a Republicans call they start smearing the Democrat they are calling about. It's as different as night and day. Thank goodness that a separation between the two major parties is happening. They shouldn't be like each other.

Just as I'd begin to drift off to sleep, the phone would ring and it would be YET ANOTHER DAMN COMPUTERIZED MESSAGE ABOUT LOIS MURPHY.One, two, three, four times a day it seemed, the phone rang with "robocalls" about the Democratic challenger to incumbent GOP Rep. Jim Gerlach in one of the nastiest races in the country.I never listened to one word of it, just slammed the phone down and seethed with resentment. Now, there's an effective campaign strategy, I thought: Infuriate the voters so much that they won't vote. What part of "Do Not Call" don't campaign advisers get?http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/local/15898729.htmNew Telemarketing Ploy Steers Voters on Republican Path

Big moment for marijuana?
"One side claims to be "troubled" by the idea of the legalization of marijuana, while a member of the other side calls the current laws "Draconian at best...Either way, voters casting ballots on Amendment 44, which would legalize small amounts of marijuana, Tuesday will be deciding on a heated issue that burst into flames recently when Gov. Bill Owens and supporters faced off at a Denver rally." {An anti-aging drug?}"Dr. Robert Melamede, associate professor at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, has researched free radicals - highly reactive chemicals our bodies produce as a byproduct of how we burn fuel - and DNA repair for decades..."What we now know is that we all make marijuana-like compounds, and those compounds help to homeostatically regulate and balance our biochemistry, and they do that literally almost everywhere in your body," Melamede said. "Marijuana mimics the way our bodies normally work. In many respects, it can be viewed as an anti-aging drug.""Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, Governor Bill Owens and Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton disagree with Melamede."snipped from http://tinyurl.com/yyaceaThe politicians disagree with the learned Dr. Melamede, what's wrong with this statement?

10th Anniversary of Prop. 215
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2006/11/04/18326380.phpTen years later, the shockwave of Prop. 215 is still spreading. It remains to be seen how far it will go before the federal ban on medical marijuana is finally lifted. If marijuana is eventually made available in licensed pharmacies like other prescription pharmaceuticals, the dispensaries and clubs may become obsolete. On the other hand, the dispensaries may well prove to be a stepping stone to a wider regime of legal adult access.Given its uncommon pharmaceutical safety, a strong case can be made for making marijuana available as an over-the-counter drug for all adults. This November 7th, three California cities ≠Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Santa Monica - will be voting on initiatives like Oakland's Measure Z, aimed at eliminating penalties against adult use of cannabis. In addition, two states, Nevada and Colorado, will be voting on proposals to legalize adult marijuana use entirely. Ten years after Prop 215, a second marijuana reform shockwave may be in the making.Dale Gieringer, co-sponsor, Prop 215 - Nov 2, 2006

"I'm sure that judge is in bed with those same "officials", vested interest, vested interest, they just keep trotting right up all the whores of Cannabis prohibition. If these "officials" were half way serious, then they would open a serious debate and include the real experts the doctors and medical professionals, not the usual drug addiction centers, drug testing corporate interests and sordid judicial puppetry. What do real medical doctors have to say?Bet they would say YES...

Prohibitionists: Little Old Ladies and Gossip
First of all, everyone has the right to express their opinions. But the question then arises, "How much do they really know about this?"Most of the prohibitionists have never used cannabis and have no real experience with its effects, so their opinions are not really very well based in reality. So, if they have no real experience, where do they get their information? Answer: From other prohibitionists with no real experience either. People who don't really know about something should not be talking about it like they are experts. The prohibitionists are like a bunch of gossiping old ladies that spread rumors about stories which they know nothing about because they weren't there to begin with and never even saw anything. They jump to the very worst conclusions and exaggerate the story out of proportion, succumbing to the fear and sensationalism with sheer perversity. Then they go around town talking about it like they are experts on the subject.Prohibitionists with no real experience about cannabis should not be taken seriously. They should be treated like little old ladies that like to gossip and spread rumors. It's not the discussion itself that is the problem, it is the source of the discussion. We simply don't like people that present rumors and lies as if they are scientific facts when they are nothing but BS, and it sickens us when they continue to do so ad nauseum.

I couldn't take anymore of the news so I put on the CSNY Freedom of Speech concert. Now I'm smiling. If only those who fight against so hard could open up their heart and really see. What a wonderful and healing time we could have and America could be special once again.

vested interest
Is this a fox guarding the hen house story? These guys have a vested interest in the status quo. They can’t be trusted to be objective. They should not be running around squawking about it, especially on the “tax payers’ time”. Let the voters decide the issue without their interference

I don't think the issue is if they can express their views or not, but rather if they are spending our tax dollar to do so. It would be nice if we could collect taxes to express our view. Talk about a stacked deck....

...what about smoking him to death?
...well, I guess because Cannabis will only heal and cure, there is no point: Smoking him to death."
The President's aides had tried to convince him that a high caliber hand gun would be swifter and more humane but they were quickly overruled by White House political strategist Karl Rove who felt that the President's base would prefer a slower and more painful death for Hussein.
"Yes, how many more souls will perish because Bu$h continues to obtusly persist in his lie?The hypocrisy and double standards seem to be catching up with the 'whole' corrupted administration; Mark Foley, Scooter libbey, Bob Ney, Tom DeLay etc etc etc...What is the old saying about pigeons coming home to roost or reaping what you sow......The 'Grande' lie is coming apart, not least the Mr Bush is as guilty of all the crimes against Sadam Hussein, if not now to a greater extent.[hifff...] (Ya come on 7...)

Hi to you too! Bush won't do that. That has to be fake news. I wonder how many more of our troops in Iraq will die because of the death penalty verdict? How can we invade a sovereign country and like you said kill way over a half a million people and not be held accountable? Double standards just don't settle right with me.

Saddams' verdict is bushes' Nov. surprise!
is no surprise, and should backfire if anything!
Hi FOM!I don't think bushes dog and pony show will have the desired effect, as it is way too obvious this is ALL political, and has nothing to do with prosecuting a war criminal, which he is, but compared to bushes 600-800,000 dead Iraqis', I AM looking forward to bushes war crimes trial! From the Assimilated Press:Bush To Personally Execute Saddam HusseinWashington, D.C. - In an extraordinary move that has no precedent in modern history, the White House announced today that President Bush would personally perform the execution of Saddam Hussein which will take place in a specially constructed execution chamber next to the Oval Office. The weapon of choice has yet to be finalized but the President is said to favor the use of a standard major league aluminum baseball bat. The President's aides had tried to convince him that a high caliber hand gun would be swifter and more humane but they were quickly overruled by White House political strategist Karl Rove who felt that the President's base would prefer a slower and more painful death for Hussein.http://assimilatedpress.blogspot.com/2006/11/bush-to-personally-execute-saddam.htmlCould Bush Be Prosecuted for War Crimes? Old article, deserves re-reading!http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/38604/Volunteer to make phone calls to get the vote out!

prohibition
The prohibitionist have had the stage for 70 years. Prohibition has prohibited a true debate. Reefer madness gave the world too many years of propaganda and misinformation. A little truth finds its way out and leos and spinless politicians whine about it like babies. Advice to leos:
Return to school, get a bachelors degree.
If you already have one, best dust off your resume. With the next generation moving up and the reefer madness generation moving on...penalty free pot is inevitable.Don't let it drive you to drink.Come on, lucky 7!

...it takes adults to discuss adult things;
"
The judge said those officials have a right and a duty to publicly discuss political matters like Question 7, which would legalize marijuana possession by adults.
"...sigh; they will not openely discuss such an unjustifiable law. On what basis was a productive plant made illegal? Of course it's all about the Benjamins; no matter how much tax the 'officials' would make also, they fear the truth and inspired truth-ful people. After all why did Bu$h go to war in Iraq?OIL - greed - $$$'s No WMD's, No links to 911... worsening "Civil" war... ya greedy OIL loving eejits...The duty of all these officials, is not to be addicted to money dollar$ ca$h; instead what about good old fashioned, putting the peoples voices first kind of stuff???George Washington Grew Cannabis on his estate for goodness-sake...
The trail of 911 $$$'s...
