Denver, CO -- A group that claims marijuana use is safer than drinking ran newspaper ads Saturday mentioning allegations that President Bush once drunkenly challenged his father to fight and Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting of a friend after drinking. SAFER Colorado, which put a measure on the Colorado ballot to legalize possession of marijuana, placed an ad in a newspaper in Greeley, where Bush made an appearance on Saturday.
The ad in the Greeley Tribune had a photo of Bush accompanied by text that read: ``In 1972, this man tried to fight his dad when he was drunk. Just one more reason to vote 'Yes on 44.''' The ad was referring to published reports that in 1972, a 26-year-old Bush had come home drunk and challenged his father to a fight. The matter was reportedly settled without violence. The group ran the Cheney ad in The Gazette of Colorado Springs, a day after he spoke to troops at the nearby Fort Carson Army post and attended a campaign rally. The ad said, ``Shot his friend in the face after drinking. Just one more reason to vote 'Yes on 44.''' Cheney accidentally shot and wounded a friend while hunting in Texas in February. The vice president said he had one beer several hours before the shooting. ``They were both in town ... and we are simply taking this opportunity to draw attention to the fact that alcohol contributes to far more problems than marijuana,'' said Mason Tvert, the group's campaign director. White House spokesman Tony Snow, asked for comment aboard Air Force One as Bush headed to Texas after the rally, dismissed the ads as ``kind of snarky and juvenile.'' ``I'm not sure they did their cause much good,'' he said. Referendum 44, which is on Tuesday's ballot, would allow adults to carry up to an ounce of marijuana, similar to an ordinance Denver voters approved last year. No other state allows pot possession for anything other than medical use. Federal law also prohibits possession. A recent poll of 625 registered voters by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research found 34 percent of voters supported the measure, while 57 percent opposed it. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Associated Press writer Nedra Pickler contributed to this report. My hope is that if Democrats get more control after elections tomorrow it will set the arrogant Republicans in their place and that will be a good thing. I have always been a person that when I see a person think they are better then another that I tune them out but it is hard to tune out people who are in control of how our country is being run.

Our Government Is EVIL!
And the government is made up of evil people. The only way I know that will change the government is if we run for and get elected to office at local, state and federal levels. After seeing the scumbags that are running for office during this election, should be faily easy to compete.

He's been through a lot.
It's a sheer miracle he's still alive. I want the best for him and his and I want him to be well. We've been here before. We're all on edge. We've seen unbelievable stuff happen and everything go down the drain in one whoosh. This may not be a major step towards justice for us, but it could be. That would be so exciting. It would be so good. But we've had our goals snatched from our grasp a few too many times to expect anything to go very smoothly. Things are going to be very edgy today and tomorrow. I don't know what they'll be Wednesday.I can hope for good...and Grace to deal with whatever comes before us.We've been here, figuratively speaking, though and we know that the slightest wrong step or something stupid and unexpected right out of the blue could send us into oblivion again for no telling how many years. Not exactly holding my breath...but breathing quietly and hoping.

I wasn't saying you have to listen, or that he said it in the best way for you, and I didn't hear it just read what he said so I didn't know he was actually yelling. But it made sense to me, is what I mean. He's right in that sense, that this is how we have to have justice, to let the people who persecute us die off of their own free will choice.

I believe that for some people in might have been right. I am only saying I won't listen to anyone who yells. I never have and it's too late for me to think differently and I'm not interested in changing. I am only one person so it doesn't matter. I know that my friends would think like me and feel just about the same way. We all have certain people we want to reach that's all.

Steve was right, too. He said it in a way that was going to offend some people, but maybe it had to be shocking to get people's attention. I think it has affected my own thinking today and here is the result.http://cannablog.wordpress.com/2006/11/05/and-there-was-justice/The prohibitionists will die off if they continue to hate. They will not eat from the tree of life and they will die. They will die before they have ceased their physical life, when they lose their memory, and their friends, and their families. They will die a thousand times. And this is their sentence, which they can choose to terminate at any time, by the merest simplicity of things -- admitting that they might be wrong, and consuming cannabis. The tree of life is free to all who wish to partake now. Live and let die.

I'm not angry with Steve either. I know that he is outspoken. I am so reserved that it shocked me. When someone yells at me I turn down my internal hearing aid. I really do. When I was young they thought I was snotty and that wasn't it at all. I can't take yelling and being screamed at. Tell me kindly and give me an option of not agreeing and I'm fine. I have been able to convince more people of my opinion on an issue by not being pushy but patient. That's just my disposition. Yelling makes my heart rate go up too. I don't like that feeling.

I was going to say something else but it wound up being something that was more addressed to myself than anyone else.I was angry at Steve Kubby yesterday but I am not angry today. The thing he did was important, and good, and bigger than this single ballot question. Steve told the truth. We need more truth tellers, and if truth makes our short term political prospects harder, that's unfortunate. What would be more unfortunate would be to hold our truth and cross our fingers in hope that we will even be allowed to win in the face of questionable elections.I might not have done it his way, and I can say with some certainty that I wouldn't because I do things my way and nobody else does that or should. We all have our own ways or we wouldn't be different people.

'Snow' Job
``I'm not sure they did their cause much good,'' he said. Is he kidding? With the preponderance of rude and ribald humor available today, does he really think the youth, if they are not die-hard Republicans, would be offended by these ads?

juvenile indeed
"White House spokesman Tony Snow, asked for comment aboard Air Force One as Bush headed to Texas after the rally, dismissed the ads as ``kind of snarky and juvenile.''"Tony is one to talk. Everytime he comes on TV, he treats the White House press corps like they're a classroom full of 7-year-olds. In fact, I'm surprised he even graced us with a comment on this one, he doesn't normally comment on much at all. You'd think he practically invented the good old "I-will-not-comment-on-a-pending-investigation" line. You just wait until 44 pases, Tony. Then gather up Johnny Pee and your precious DEA and we'll SEE who acts juvenile then!
