Source: Rocky Mountain News
Colorado -- Amendment 44 backers would like your vote to legalize possession of up to an ounce of marijuana. And if you disagree, they expect you to shut up about it. That, in a nutshell, is the message that members of Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER), who back Amendment 44, dispensed Friday at the Capitol when they tried to shout down some of the state's top law enforcement officers and the governor.
The group that included Gov. Bill Owens, Attorney General John Suthers and Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener had a permit to gather on the west steps of the Capitol to oppose the marijuana initiative. But that wasn't good enough for SAFER. Its members became progressively more raucous as the event went on, until by the time Suthers spoke his voice was nearly buried in the din. Owens was justifiably irate and had harsh words for the protesters. "In my almost three decades of public service," he said afterward, "I have never seen a time when people with a permit for the west steps of the Capitol couldn't be heard. These people in green shirts remind me of their predecessors in brown shirts." Owens was referring to the green shirts worn by SAFER and, of course, the brown shirts worn by storm troopers in the 1930s. Hyperbole? Sure, but disrupting speeches is nothing to make light of, either. It's a direct assault on the First Amendment and is a routine tactic of bullies less interested in civil give-and-take than in forcing their views on others. SAFER leader Mason Tvert and his noisy band of green-shirted marijuana enthusiasts did neither themselves nor their cause any favors Friday.Note: Backers of 44 lose control.Source: Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO)Published: October 28, 2006Copyright: 2006 Denver Publishing Co.Contact: letters rockymountainnews.comWebsite: http://www.rockymountainnews.com/Related Articles & Web Sites:Safer Coloradohttp://www.safercolorado.org/Safer Choicehttp://www.saferchoice.org/ Owens Drug Talk No Love-Inhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22328.shtmlProponents of Marijuana Initiative, Governor Clashhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22327.shtmlSo Why is Pot Really Illegal?http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread22323.shtml

Some music for today
http://cannablog.wordpress.com/2006/10/29/a-musical-trio/By the way, I'd like some input if anyone wants to give me suggestions. I have registered cannablog.org for the blog, and it works now -- it redirects to http://cannablog.wordpress.com which is the same as before.I can reverse this behavior to make cannablog.org the main address, and have the current URL redirect.Which way do you think is better?

Thank God for Standard Time, Bless that Extra Hour
I am researching the vote today in the midst of a massive virus attack. I am reluctant to send any personal emails as my computer is definitely not secure and virus-free. So I will speak out here to my brothers and sisters and rally the cause. Won't back down. I am listening to Prairie Wind. I am "Switching to glide" (The Kings)."Somewhere a Senator sits in a leather chair behind a big wooden desk. The cariboo he killed means nothing to him. He took his money just like all the rest." "No Wonder" Prairie WindGovernor Owens should heed what the Alaska voters did to his good buddy Murkowski in the primaries. Instead of telling lies about cannabis being illegal in Alaska. The people have spoken and they will speak again on Election Day. Governor, your days are numbered."Those were the good old family times that left a big mark on me. ... Bury me out on the prairie where the buffalo used to roam you won't have to shed a tear for me 'cause then I won't be far from home."
"Far from Home"
Prairie Wind I spoke to a sister on her birthday, and she is concerned about what the red state politics are doing to the environment, education, and health. I suspect the War on Iraq is weighing heavily as well. "It's a dream, only a dream, and it's fading now, fading away, only a dream just a memory without anywhere to stay." "It's a Dream"
Prairie WindI was singing and dancing in the kitchen, listening to Neil. I am remembering what we have lost and what we can regain (like Job, so many more blessings) if we refuse to surrender to the nightmare Monster of the War on Some Plants.

"The Children"
STUDY LINKS TEEN BINGE DRINKING, ADULT SUCCESS"There's hope for those young party animals in your family. Youthful binge drinkers make more when they grow up - at least if they're guys. That's one of the unorthodox conclusions of a study coauthored by Jeffrey DeSimone, an assistant economics prof at the University of South Florida. He found male workers who had binged in 10th grade earned nearly 6 percent more than those who didn't. However, they also were a bit more likely to be unemployed. The study, published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, suggests that bingers have better social skills that help them advance ……."And the rest of the story……http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/sptimes/access/1152650131.html?dids=1152650131:1152650131&FMT=FT&FMTS=ABS:FT&date=Oct+28%2C+2006&author=&pub=St.+Petersburg+Times&edition=&startpage=1.D&desc=STUDY+LINKS+TEEN+BINGE+DRINKING%2C+ADULT+SUCCESS+Series%3A+TALK+OF+THE+BAYNice message to the children, Huh?Sandy, do you approve of this?

Shout....Shout...Let It All Out...
You know the saying "those who make peaceful change impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." A corollary to that is "those who make rational discourse impossible will make shouting matches inevitable."From bloviating talk radio hosts to prevaricating politicians, there is scarcely any truth or rationality to be had in anything the prohibitionists say.Grow men breasts...make you sterile...make you a murderer...make you kiss someone of another race...
the lies are so absurd and they keep 'em coming.Would the media expect polite response by a group of Jews at a Nazi rally, or would they endorse shouting down of what are commonly viewed as absurd ideas?Speaking of which, it is particularly disgusting to compare the green shirts to the brown shirts, when it is the prohibitionists who are more worthy of the label, given the explicitly racist origins of prohibition.

I wanted to add my post to this thread. Hope, I love ya man! :)"He said in his decade of political life in Colorado, he had never been shouted down like that before. Owens complained about the lack of civil debate on the matter."Yeah, and I bet he's never been pepper sprayed at a protest for executing his first amendment right, either. We are getting tired of that sh*t. The reason for a lack of civil debate is on your hands. Reason: You won't debate us in a public forum. You will not allow us to present the evidence which you know will evaporate your hollow arguments against both medical, and RECREATIONAL use. What happened on those steps is a growing movement among Americans fed up with Fascism cloaked in "Democracy". That is an absolutely ridiculous statement. If anyone in that situation could even begin to be called a brown shirt, it would be the uniformed and empowered prohibitionists on the steps who have persecuted, prosecuted , jailed, seized assets, and trampled rights of cannabis users. The proponents of 44 were far from a disgrace. They were standing up to abusive power. Owens and his gang should get over it and take it as a message from their constituents. In the early days of this country they might have been tarred and feathered.

The Nazi Comparison
Let's nee now. Gov. Bill Owens and his polce-state cohorts claw their way to the top of the crab bucket by arresting and jailing peaceful pot smokers, while at the same time they give a big wink and pass to booze makers and takers. The prohibitionists put their police in public schools, to attempt to brainwash us and our children from the time were able to speak until the last day of high school, whereupon they become targets for more government predation (and pot laws are instrumental in this). The prohibitionists continually try to silence dissent by jailing those who speak out against prohibition. Steve Kubby, NJ Weedman, Grant Kreiger, Marc Emery, Timothy Leary, Loretta Nail, Ed Rosenthal, (just a few names of the top of my head) have all been hounded by prohibitionists and ailed or threatened with jail because they spoke out against prohibition. This is the rule in "the land of the free" (so-called), it isn't an exception. How many more people in America would speak out freely against the pot laws, if only they felt free to do so? These people would cry out against the arrests and jailings of non-violent pot users, but they fear arrest themselves, for speaking out. That's not freedom, that's a prohibitionist police state. The prohibitionists then (at taxpayer expense) trot out a stable full of Officials, Federal, State and Local in elaborate dog-and-pony shows to rail against marijuana. "In my almost three decades of public service," he said afterward, "I have never seen a time when people with a permit for the west steps of the Capitol couldn't be heard. These people in green shirts remind me of their predecessors in brown shirts."The people in brown shirts, the Nazis, they were the ones with the guns arresting people and hauling them off to prison and and worse. Does that remind you more of the Gov. and his state police cohorts there, or of a group of peaceful pot protesters? Notice: No arrests of the peaceful pro-SAFER protesters. This leads one to believe that for all the huffing and righteous indignation of the anti-SAFER Rocky Mountain News, the pro-SAFER people did nothing at all illegal in heckling the prohibitionists.

Suthers LIES about the legality of cannabis in Alaska, Sheriff Wegener stoops to the lowest level of scum by associating cannabis with that horrible failure of his department to protect those little girls, and the Governor brings these habitual liars together to deface the honor of their Capitol in order to lie to maintain the status quo.Our voices have been stifled, not by their voices, but by their guns and cages. The "Brown shirts" supported an evil government who sought to oppress, imprison and exterminate their own population and conquer the world through war. That is the epitome of the OPPONENTS of Amendment 44, who not only are "Brown shirts" but also "Brown nosers."The Reverend Bud Green

People are sick of the Jack Boots on their necks.
They line up with somber looks and guns and uniforms and do everything they can to intimidate the people with their presence. They haven't let us, people against the present prohibitions, talk for years. They've silenced us for years. They've looked down on us. They've threatened and they've carried through their threats.Americans are sick of the Jack Boots on their necks. They want to stand up and they want to say things they've been kept from saying for years and years. They have certainly treated us as less than their equals. We've been intimidated and persecuted for way too many years. "On the floor, you Scumbag."It's their turn. "On the floor! Stay there! M...F...."Yes. The people have endured much and they are sick of it and they are sick of their friends, and families, and neighbors being locked up, raped, and persecuted for using a plant. We're sick of it. We aren't serfs, slaves, and peons, who have to submit to a "ruling class" that rules every aspect of our lives. Well...yes...we are...in a way. But we are sick to death of the tactics of the War on Drugs being used on us, brought into our homes, and frightening and threatening and traumatizing our children. We're sick of it. We want it stopped and we're so tired of all the evil crap and lies that spew from their lying lips."Lying lips hate those they deceive."We are sick of their lying. We are sick of them. We're sick of it and we just can't stand it anymore. We're Americans...we were born and bred to do something about it. We want to be free and make our own choices and decisions. We're Americans. We want to be free. It's rather arrogant of them to think we would kneel to them forever. They better loosen up, grow up, and get it together. We're sick of their treatment and they are just damned lucky there aren't any guillotines around for them to have to face because of their coarseness and rudeness and cruelty towards all of us who are in despair about the situations the War on Drugs has caused in this country among it's non-ruling class citizens. "It ain't that easy being green."

These people trying to influence peoples' votes are there to serve the people, not tell them what to do. These same lies purported by the government for 70+ years which have destroyed the lives of millions and become the biggest civil rights issue in existence today don't deserve to be said any longer, and the people know it. Straight projection. The brownshirts accuse the protesters of being brownshirts, because it is their first and only defense against being called what they themselves are. Pre-emptively accuse your opposition of your own crimes and it insulates you against accusation. Just like those child molesters in the congress. It only works for awhile, until people catch on, however. Now we are starting to realize that every accusation from these people should be turned around and considered against the accusers.

brown shirts
For this editorial to compare the green shirts of SAFER to the brown shirts of the Storm Troopers (I believe that is what he's referring to) is a sooo laughable. We saw them there yesterday. All the representatives of the police state, the prosecutors, the SWAT teams, the real jackboots who knock down doors at 6 am, haul you away, confiscate your property, over a relatively harmless plant. The only opposition to 44. They must maintain a criminal class to prey upon and feed off of. Something to hold over their heads. And by keeping it illegal protect their dealers, licit and illicit ones.Discussion of marijuana as been put down for 70yrs as part of the prohibiton. Only one side has been heard all that time, looks like the table is turning, eh.
