Nevada -- Giggles, sighs, applause and statistics echoed through the student union theater Tuesday night during a public debate over the legalization of marijuana. The CSUN-sponsored event showcased advocates for and against Question 7 on this year's ballot. If passed, Question 7 would allow adults over the age of 21 to legally possess and use up to one ounce of marijuana.
"Our marijuana laws don't work," said Neal Levine, campaign director for the Committee to Control and Regulate Marijuana. "Anyone who wants it can get it … you lose all ability to control it."Levine went on to say that if passed, the new law will double the penalties for those who sell marijuana to minors, isolate the selling of marijuana to state-regulated shops that are at least 500 feet away from schools and houses of worship and provide increased state revenue in the taxing of the drug."Our hands are already full just dealing with the alcohol-related driving problems," said Sandy Heverly, executive director of Stop DUI in Nevada. "Don't let Nevada become the experimental Petri dish of the nation."Heverly said the passage of the law would not only increase the likelihood of fatal driver-impaired car accidents, but raise insurance premiums as well.As for potential revenue produced by the taxing of marijuana, Heverly made it clear that she and her organization saw it as more of a problem than a benefit."They call it tax revenue," Heverly said. "We call it blood money."The audience, consisting mostly of college students who supported Question 7, could be heard laughing and scoffing at some of the points raised by Heverly.Moderator Ray Patterson even had to address the audience, saying that the laughter was disruptive. After Heverly brought up a statistic stating 29 out of the 3,000 annual DUI deaths are from those driving solely under the influence of marijuana, the atmosphere became heated."You're laughing at the deaths of 29 people?" Heverly asked after giggles were heard in the audience."It's such a small percentage," a man in the audience shouted back.Noticeably shaken, Heverly calmed down and the debate continued.During their closing statements, Levine and Heverly finally agreed. After both pundits stated that the issue was extremely important, they also encouraged everyone there to go out and vote in the quickly approaching election. That however, is where the agreement ended."Unfortunately, we haven't really discussed Question 7 tonight," Levine said, adding that Heverly had resorted to straw-man arguments and unrealistic scenarios of what could happen."We do not believe the legalization of marijuana would be good to any community or nation," Heverly said. "Marijuana is already strictly regulated in Nevada. It's called illegal."Marijuana's legal future will be decided by Nevada voters on Tuesday Nov. 7 when Question 7 is taken from the debate forums and placed on the ballot. That is great to read how you are doing all the work on your house. Deciding what to do is hard. Whatever you decide you have to live with it for a long time. My husband and I love to watch shows like Flip this House and see what messes are found behind the walls in many of the homes. I love having a home. That has always been the one thing that was important to us. It doesn't have to be a manion on the hill but to us it is.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Decisions, Decisions, Decisionsre: 77 Oh No!!! Not Paint!!! Oh no don't paint over me Mr. Bill!!! Just kidding, Lol. I'm sure you thought most everything out, and will be happy with it.Just remodeled the Kitchen. Bride and myself went through many things like, what color style so on and so on. There are many choices available, sometimes too many. Used Oak Cabinets with natural finish, put on extra coats of urethane for protection from moisture and scratches. Put a mural of an old fashioned kitchen with a fireplace being used to cook with, in the wall tile, centered above the stove, looks cool. Lots of detail in that picture. Put an electrical outlets every 2 ft., Installed lights in the base cabinets so that when you open the door, they come on (used motion sensors), re did plumbing, added dishwasher, the whole 9 yards. We did all the work ourselves except the drywall and countertop, its one of those corian tops with the sink built in, otherwise I would have done that too. All finished except for the floor. Tile has been waiting for me since May on the front porch. Daily grind should slow enough for me to get to it soon. Bathroom is next. Bride and I are fixin to go through it all over again. What color, what tile, what lights???. :-) It’s cool, just part of it. Kinda fun when you’re doing it, then checking it out after your finished. A sense of accomplishment. I enjoy it. I know you do too from your posts.

Had Enough and Hope
It's too late. It is being primed now. We have beautiful wood doors that will be varnished and kept the natural color of the wood. I have Oak kitchen cabinets and too much variation with the wood wouldn't look right. Painting the trim gloss white and varnishing the wood doors is a north east kind of thing. Our house is a Cape Cod style and we opened up the rooms so white will break each rooms colors. I appreciate the Internet because it took us a long time to decide what to do. We have a ceramic tile woodroom and kitchen now. It's really nice.Hope, if you can get this video check out Patches the horse.http://tinyurl.com/ylu38y

Unpainted Trim #72
It would be next to a sin to paint over that beautiful wood. That grain is cool. How about using a stain with a semi gloss clear coat of Minwax Spar Urethane or something like that, it will make the wood glow. And that type of finish is very durable. I love the look and feel of wood grain. It’s warm in the winter, cool in the summer.

Thanks Hope. We have a really cool cliff out back that we can stand on and see deep into the woods. It's about a mile to the next farm from our back yard. The glaciers deposited big rocks around here. We didn't have that back in Pa like out here.

I'm glad you have a roofer and painter coming. It makes us feel good when we can fix something I believe. We do need to take care of our home if we are able to have one. I believe if people put money into their home, unless it's for silly things, you won't lose in the long run. This is unpainted trim. We have it all around the archways too but it's bigger and I don't have a picture.

Hello Hope. I can almost see you through these wires, even though I don't know what you look like. I'm basically saying that you and I are sitting here having a conversation like we're right there. You should say what you think is best. Sometimes it isn't what others want to hear, so you take that into consideration. Basically that's the key that I've found to being polite, however poorly I may do in actual execution sometimes. The truth is though that sometimes people are going to be offended. Just unavoidable. Otherwise you'd be afraid to speak for fear of offending someone. So we all have to try to understand one another if we want to avoid stepping on each other's toes, I guess. We all do what we're supposed to do without knowing what that is sometimes. We choose to play our parts and do what comes naturally, and then the story unfolds and we experience it. We are all in perfect character here.

Learning and character and relating...
Whig, I've had a long weekend. I thought about what you were going through here Friday, and found myself in a similar position as yours several times over the last few days. Life teaches you right up to the last day, I guess. It's been pointed out to me that my sense of caution and care comes across more as some sort of negativity.I have "Nanny" instincts. I'm a protector. My sense of caution that I think I'm projecting, is coming in as negativity. If there was a buzz...I'd be the buzz kill, I've been told this weekend.So...I don't have to "Nanny" everyone. I don't have to remind every one to be careful and what awful things might happen. I don't have to.Yes, I do. Just not as much as I usually do.

My father was a kind person. He was gentle and loving and we loved him. He cared for us and worked hard and to me that's very masculine and that's what I admire in the men of CNews. You care and it's good to care. Every person isn't just a bunch of typed words in a comment but a living and breathing person and we should never forget that because no one knows when it might be the last time we ever see each other because we can die like Jonathan sadly did.

Yes, this is a unique family
Our women are sensitive, caring, forgiving, compassionate, all of the things you would expect, but the men of CNews.com are different than most other sites because we share so many of the same wonderful traits as the ladies. I know I do. The majority of men don't (or at least act like they don't) and there's always anger, bullying, fighting, grudges, etc. when they mingle.I can't stand that kind of person, I can't stand websites where they post and I don't care if they think I'm soft or a sissy or whatever they want to call me. There are lives that depend on caring men and women, but unfortunately most men just see all of them as targets. The Reverend Bud Green

That's a good way to get hurt. We're friends here. We aren't each others' parents. We aren't each other's teachers...although, as friends, we learn from each other.Lighten up...if you can. Some people have to really learn how to. A lot of life has been hard and very painful for you. It's hard to lighten up when you've toted such a heavy burden. It's obviously not easy for you. You can learn it, though. For your own good.I'm glad you're here, too.

I recognize also that I'm doing this to an extent. The old saw, when you look into the abyss, the abyss looks back into you, is true.I have no idea how else to speak to people who are not among our own number, that will enter their consciousness and make them able to see the hypocrisy of prohibition. They are (in my estimation) used to hearing a particular tone and respecting that tone. They are expecting a leader in their phariseeical mold, and I'm leading in that way only so far as to tell them not to follow but consider and decide for themselves. And preaching peace and love and cannabis.Do you think I am doing a good job of speaking to those others, or do you think I am wasting my time, or am I speaking in the wrong way, or saying the wrong things? Please forgive me again for speaking to you in any similar way.

Apology accepted. "Torch" was in reference to a metal cutting tool, not violence. Whig, when I was your age, you would have been correct to call me radical, violent among other things. People who start out bad, don't always stay bad. I made life changing decisions more than fifteen years ago that put me in touch with my God, and my recovery. I am not perfect, and I can see how you or others may still sense my touch of radicalism, so I can only try. And I will. Forever. When I put down the other things that are not Cannabis, the Change, slow but sure, began. What you see is not the final product, but it is a far sight better than before. I am pleased.Toke.

I protest in peaceful demonstrations and promote peaceful change. Others may not tell you this, but I will. You have developed a holier than thow attitude with your posts that do you no good. You are just as bad as the prohibians in that you are practicing to divide. FoM has been very nice in trying to warn you of your judgemental attitude. Look a little deeper in the mirror Whig. You are not reflecting that which you profess. I am really holding myself back on this post. You had no right to paint me as a knife wielding demon. I resent your present attitude. I take your point and I agree that people who kiss the right ass get special treatment, and people who make money for the wealthy elites (who don't need any more money) are guaranteed to be protected against almost anything -- for as long as possible. In the end, the truth comes out, I believe. Some people live lavishly, and corruptly, and care nothing for anyone but themselves, until the first time they get caught and their protectors are unable to help them because they are themselves cornered and trying to survive like rats from a sinking ship. Then you see these people come out with tears in their eyes, sobbing that they are victims, they are alcoholics, and sex abuse victims, and the rest.Rush will not be on top for long.

Rush's pill popping blues
At ten pills per day, it was 3650 per year. After five years, he would have ingested 18,300 pills. So, I guess I was over the top and the tipping point was reached.Anybody dare admit how much cannabis they have smoked in their day?If you smoke an ounce per month, then after 35 years of smoking, you will have smoked 420 ounces. That's a nice round number. Pun intended.

Just like Rush does all of the time. The DEA does it all of the time too. They confiscate some cannabis plants that have not matured, have no real value, but contentiously claim that the plants of a street value of 1500 dollars each. How do you think you would be treated if a peace officer were to catch you with a couple of plants of cannabis? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If I was wrong, that's good. It doesn't mitigate Rush's wrong doing. Anyhow, you digressed. I have to side with Whig on this one...
... because if we start promulgating exaggerations and mistruths that are not supported by facts, we are only playing the prohibitionists' game and undermining what we are fighting for -- the dissemination of TRUTH in the face of government-sponsored lying.Don't get me wrong - I'm as peeved about Rush getting preferential treatment as the next person. As another commentator on the very station that carries Rush in my area said, Rush is merely a mouthpiece for the Republican party and has to say what the dittoheads want to hear no matter what.Remember the old "telephone line" game around the campfire... things can get way out of hand in a short time. Here's hoping for SUCCESS in Nevada and Colorado!!

That article does not claim that Rush Limbaugh was suspected of dealing 450,000 pills. It says there was a round-up of some kind involving that many pills, and Rush was one of the people they scooped up as presumably pill buyers.

Now who do you suppose these warriers will turn
out to be? We certainly need these guys, off topic or not. :)THE SHAMBHALA WARRIORS"Now the time comes when great courage — moral and physical courage — is required of the Shambhala warriors, for they must go into the very heart of the barbarian power, into the pits and pockets and citadels where the weapons are kept, to dismantle them. To dismantle weapons, in every sense of the word, they must go into the corridors of power where decisions are made."The Shambhala warriors have the courage to do this because they know that these weapons are manomaya, or "mind-made." Made by the human mind, they can be unmade by the human mind. The Shambhala warriors know that the dangers threatening life on Earth are not visited upon us by any extraterrestrial power, satanic deities, or preordained evil fate. They arise from our own decisions, our own lifestyles, and our own relationships."So in this time, the Shambhala warriors go into training. They train in the use of two weapons. The weapons are compassion and insight. Both are necessary."Who will take on this task? Or is it we who are the Warriors? I'm going down to the police station and start there. When I'm done there, it's just a hop, skip and a jump over to the Guard Armory. If anyone is living next to or close to a Nuke, please hurry, and don't forget the penetrating oil! Wrenches...screw drivers...torches...ok. Let's get started! When this group of renegade Elitists are rounded up and turn and face the truth about the destructiveness of their wickedness and then turn and face the wrath of the People of the World, I want to be near them, to see the horror on their faces. Then I don't want to ever see their faces again. Toke.

Keep it away from where it would do the most good.
...500 feet away from schools and houses of worship...Those wonderful hemp/cannabis seeds with their amazing acids would lubricate, nurture and protect the brains and bodies of these children, and the wonderful Cannabis Flowers would lift the spirit of the sick, recreatious, and religious if they would just accept these truths, and vote to legalize, then realize. You could grow food in your back yard for FREE.You could grow medicine in your back yard for FREE.You could grow fun in your back yard for FREE.Free. The one word (mouse) which scares the mighty Capitalists (elephant) into panic. We need to establish a New Society which was not established by war, hate, greed, racism, class-ism and uses money only out of necessity, and never for profit. If we all work for free, there will be no control over us. If we create all of our comforts and needs, the corporations would disappear. Candle/oil light is fine to work or read by. If we stopped using everything that has been invented since 1800, the corps would vanish. So would the power over us. I know you have to stretch a really long mile to imagine this, but wouldn't it work?Wage Peace on war. END CANNABIS PROHIBITION NOW!

Driving Studies ...
Thestales ...There have been MANY studies over the years, in a number of countries and they have been flooged unmercifully by prohibs to prove that driving stoned is dangerous. It's probably not a wise idea to get wasted, jump in the car and drive through rush hour traffic, but who wants to do that anyway ... yet, how many have probably done something like that occasionally, circumstances warranting, and where are all the statistics of stoned drivers crashing?I did some research a while ago and published here some time ago, I will do it again, since there are new faces here ... welcome all ...to the font of truth here at CN.This is MY research ---------Dankhank Lawton OK
DOT HS 808 078 "Marijuana and Actual Driving Performance" Final Report, Nov. 1993 Conclusions on page 108 of the copy I received from the NHTSA are interesting and informative. A sample, "It is possible to safely study the effects of marijuana on driving on highways or city streets in the presence of other traffic." "Drivers under the influence of marijuana tend to over-estimate the adverse effects of the drug on their driving ability and compensate when they can; e.g. by increasing effort to accomplish the task, increasing headway or slowing down, or a combination of these." DOT HS 808 939 "Marijuana, Alcohol and Actual Driving Performance" July 1999 Conclusion on page 39 midway of paragraph 5.1 of the copy I received: The addition of the new data, (for marijuana), broadens the range of reactions that may be expected to occur in real life. This range has not been shown to extend into the area that can rightfully be regarded as dangerous or an obviously unacceptable threat to public safety. DOT HS 809 020 "Visual Search and Urban City Driving under the Influence of Marijuana and Alcohol" March 2000: Conclusion 1 on page 24 of the copy I received. "Low doses of marijuana, taken alone, did not impair city driving performance and did not diminish visual search frequency for traffic at intersections in this study." General Discussion, page 22 “Previous on-the-road studies have also demonstrated that subjects are generally aware of the impairing properties of THC and try to compensate for the drug's impairing properties by driving more carefully (Hansteen et al, 1976; Casswell, 1979; Peck et al, 1986; Robbe 1994). “DOT HS 809 642 "State of Knowledge of Drug Impaired Driving" Sept 2003: Experimental Research of Cannabis, page 41 midway: "The extensive studies by Robbe and O'Hanlon (1993), revealed that under the influence of Marijuana, drivers are aware of their impairment, and when experimental tasks allow it, they tend to actually decrease speed, avoid passing other cars, and reduce other risk-taking behaviors." DOT HS 808 065 "The Incidence and Role of Drugs in Fatally Injured Drivers" Oct. 1992 In discussing the "Distribution of Ratings on Driver Responsibility" Table 5.12 page 64 of the copy I received, paragraph (p.65); "Responsibility, drugs and alcohol”, third paragraph, the following appears: "Note that the responsibility rates of the THC-only and Cocaine-only groups are actually lower than that of the drugfree drivers. Although these results too are inconclusive, they give no suggestion of impairment in the two groups. The low responsibility rate for THC was reminiscent of that found in young males by Williams and colleagues (1986).” This study is remarkable in it's propensity to attack itself as inconclusive. Forensic Science Review Vol. 14, Number One/Two, Jan 2002, surely must be the reference of note regarding metabolic functions and where the THC goes following ingestion. This review discuses THC and it's metabolites; THCCOOH, 11-OH-THC to mention the most discussed. Location and type of measured quantities of these and other metabolites should be easy to use to determine if a driver is "stoned" or was stoned yesterday, or last week. Mention was made of a man who had measurable levels of metabolites sixty-seven days after ingesting Cannabis. Chap IX paragraph D, "Summary" appears to be of two minds. While stating, "Studies examining Cannabis' causal effect through responsibility analysis have more frequently indicated that THC alone did not increase accident risk …," it continues optimistically suggesting that further exhaustive research may rebut that. All of the studies agree that combining Cannabis with any other drug, such as Alcohol ... a major deleterious effect on driving skills, as is benzoates with Cannabis … it rapidly becomes evident that Cannabis in combination with any number of other drugs is not to be desired, but that Cannabis and Cocaine alone in all six studies have the smallest perceived safety risk of all the drugs and drug combinations tested and against drug-free drivers.----------------And for those "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" fans, remember that Fearless Frank said, "Smokin' dope and drinking beer is like pissing in the wind!"http://www.freaknet.org.uk/pages01/p01/wm01.htmlhttp://www.ripoffpress.com/

legalize it
I read in a local newspaper today a story of a US military pilot who smuggled 200,000 pills of ecstacy into the US from Germany. He received a sentence of 17 1/2 years in prison.Another stupid result of the 'drug war.' It's ok for Rush Limbaugh to deal 450,000 pills of prescription medications, go deaf, go to the rehab, and then go back to his old job of lying to everybody on Clear Channel. No prison terms for the pampered, big fat idiots. Nope, uh-huh, none whatsoever. The hypocrisy is so glaring, the Devil's red glare looks dim. This 'drug war' business is disgusting.Vote to legalize cannabis in Nevada and Colorado. It is time to end prohibition. It doesn't work.

Thestales
Whats funny here is that when she states: "Our hands are already full just dealing with the alcohol-related driving problems," said Sandy Heverly, executive director of Stop DUI in Nevada."Don't let Nevada become the experimental Petri dish of the nation." It sounds like she believes that it's not happening at all right now and if passed we would start to see stoned people drinving on public roads. Oh the horror! Newsflash lady, its been going on for decades already and there isn't mountanous piles of bodies as a result.Peace allMac

What about Tobacco?
Are there any definitive studies stating that cannabis impairs your ability to drive? I know many studies that imply that it actually causes accident ratings to go down. Does no one watch the news around the world? Even the Government states the intoxication of cannabis is only one step behind coffee and cigarettes. http://www.mamas.org/Images/HazardPotential.pdfWhy are we allowed to drive while using tobacoo?I DARE someone in the US to do a true scientific study regarding cannabis and driving. No one will stating "it is too dangerous" when the really know, as usual they will be proved WRONG!!!!http://www.pot-tv.net/archive/shows/pottvshowse-4011.html

Laughing
I understand why some of the students laughed. Legal drugs cause many accidents and deaths. I've never heard of anyone who died in an accident that was only under the influence of Cannabis but I know personally a person who just died recently that was under the influence of legal drugs. That's why they laughed.
