ANN ARBOR -- Former University of Michigan defensive back William Peterson will serve a year on probation for possession of marijuana.
A District Court judge Tuesday also ordered Peterson to pay court costs and attend a substance-abuse class as part of a plea agreement in which he pleaded guilty to a marijuana-possession charge. Peterson was a passenger in a car driven by cornerback James Whitley in April when police in Ann Arbor pulled them over. Officers found four ounces of marijuana on Peterson. Whitley was charged with driving on a suspended license. U-M Coach Lloyd Carr dismissed Peterson from the team in December when it was alleged that Peterson had stolen $46 from a stripper's purse. The judge dismissed that larceny charge as part of the plea agreement. Newshawk: Jean Cowsert Pubdate: July 23, 1999Copyright 1999, The Detroit News
