Colorado -- A marijuana law reform group is advising partiers to smoke pot rather than drink this St. Patrick's Day.Safer Alternatives For Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER) - based in Boulder - says even though drinking alcohol is legal, it is still more dangerous than smoking marijuana. “Obviously, St. Patrick's Day is a day when a number of people are encouraged to go out drinking,” said Mason Tvert, executive director for SAFER.
“If they're going to party, it may not be a bad decision to consider marijuana rather than alcohol.”Tvert has planned a demonstration in Denver on St. Patrick's Day, but on Tuesday he wouldn't provide details about the precise nature of the demonstration. After St. Paddy's Day, Tvert will be collecting signatures to pressure other universities to reduce their penalties for marijuana use, and working on passing easier marijuana laws around the country.CU students passed a referendum providing for precisely that last year. CU officials aren't enforcing it.But SAFER isn't just trying to change the laws or make marijuana legal, it is trying to inform people that alcohol causes more social and health problems, said Tvert.“We encourage adults to consider the facts when they go out to party,” said Tvert. “You are far more likely to be hurt drinking than when using marijuana.”Even though he has a strong stance against booze, Tvert said he isn't trying to attack alcohol users or companies.“We're really just trying to get it out there as a public service announcement,” said Tvert.Coloradans are more aware of the differences between marijuana and alcohol because of recent highly publicized SAFER ballot initiatives at CU, Colorado State University in Fort Collins and in the City of Denver.“We started SAFER as a response to alcohol overdosing in Colorado,” said Tvert. In 2004, a string of student deaths from alcohol poisoning hit Colorado and the nation. A pledge, Gordie Bailey, died during an initiation rite at a CU fraternity in fall 2004. At CSU, Samantha Spady died in a fraternity house after drinking dozens of shots and beer.“Kids were drinking themselves to death, but marijuana rules were harsher than (those for) alcohol,” Tvert said.Following successful referenda at CU and CSU last year, in November, SAFER helped pass a law in Denver that would allow people over 21 years old to possess an ounce of marijuana.“We're obviously very pleased, but our work is clearly not done,” said Tvert, who mentioned that police are still arresting people that smoke marijuana in Denver. “We don't want people to break the law, but we want people to consider the options.”Source: Colorado Daily (CO)Author: Casey Freeman, Colorado Daily Staff WriterPublished: Tuesday, March 14, 2006Copyright: 2006 Colorado DailyContact: editor coloradodaily.comWebsite: http://www.coloradodaily.com/Safer Choicehttp://www.saferchoice.org/CannabisNews -- Cannabis Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/cannabis.shtml

political prisoners
It is clear that we are seeing political prisoners in a culture war. The establishment is trying to squelch the pro-cannabis movement and it has nothing to do with sensible law or justice.
Kubby is a political prisoner. Steve was. Emery may be.And the list goes on. The authorities will back off if it looks as though a situation will bring bad PR vs. striking fear in their opponents. Incarcerating terminally ill citizens under draconian laws is generally poor pubic relations practice. That is why they are generally not prosecuting following federal raids in California. They feel they can harass people and stay below the radar. That and they know a conviction in a court of law will likely fail in most of these cases and could even lead to action in the higher courts that would favor cannabis.Laws. We need a law that prevents the Federal Government of this democracy from using unjust actions against citizens who are political dissidents. Political discourse, dissent and individual freedom are the foundation of what has made the United States great.

what did happen, anyway?
The Kubby Persecution is confusing. Some years ago, those who would deny he had a witch trial allowed his jurors to wear Halloween costumes. Some weeks ago, a prosecutor reportedly denied knowledge Steve had cancer. Some daze ago, Kubby was given synthetic marijuana in jail and released on good behavior supposedly because of overcrowding, AND they deny he lost as much weight as his lawyer was said to have claimed. What did they do, keep giving him larger orange jumpsuits in some sort of freakish Nazi mind fsck? Some hours ago, a judge could not see why a trial in absentia over a gram of contraband is unfair, so Kubby is being sent BACK?Sigh. Upon reflection, words spoken with justice and truth will echo with thunderous resonance: "In an interview, Bonner said he received some political pressure to keep Kubby in jail. But after talking to Capt. John Fitzgerald at the jail, Bonner was told that Kubby qualified for early release because of good-time credits and work time, he said."John said he was a model prisoner," Bonner said. "I said to John, 'What would we do if (Kubby) was anybody else in our jail?' John said, 'He'd get early release.' That was it as far as I was concerned.""http://www.sacbee.com/content/community_news/placer/story/14227181p-15050946c.html - - -As far as I can tell, 2775 Richardson Dr. Auburn, CA 95603 never received the money and Jerry Sisson's money order was returned also, but without the accompanying fax I included. In a move that may have surprised the prosecution, the new Kubby defense team rejected the 120 day misdemeanor jail sentence the Placer D.A.'s office had offered. In stead, Kubby is asserting his right to be re-sentenced as a felon by Judge John L. Cosgrove, the original trial judge. A felony sentencing hearing provides Kubby with new rights not available to him under misdemeanor sentencing rules."above from: http://www.kubby.com/ . . .but I'm hesitant to list his email address unless directed.Hope this helps, my guess is the attorney could at least verifiably receive money for the Kubby defense, and give us insight into what litigious terminology might best be wielded in letters to editors and amici curiae . . .Media interested in interviewing knowledgeable speakers on this topic have the responsibility to contact Mike Smithson of the 5,000 plus member union of former and current cops, judges and corrections professionals, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition:http://leap.cc/contact.htm We can see via http://mapinc.org/drugnews that news publishers and other media outlets are completely aware of these self evident truths. Kubby back to jail
I see on marijuana news that he is going back to jail for up to 60 days, followed by 2 and a half years probation. Probably will be released in 20 days due to prison crowding. The article is a good rant on the waste of resources this represents and the CA prison industry.

Another article about the fungus
This gives you an idea of just how dangerous the F. Oxysporum fungus is: http://www.disinfo.com/archive/pages/article/id890/pg1/index.htmlThis is biological warfare, no matter how they euphemize it, and it threatens any nation's ability to grow its' own food. It doesn't take Einstein to figure that Big Agro would very much like to have entire nations in its' thrall by first wreaking their abilities to grow their own food, and then making them dependent upon food imports thanks to that. Not to mention, there's a certain Malthusian bent to the idea of 'reducing' fast-growing populations around the world, preferably without bloodshed but through 'accidental' catastrophes that cause millions to be removed from the gene pool. To read Malthus's original work, go here: http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/malthus/malthus.0.html and remember that the only reason the Earth's population has grown as fast as it has was petroleum technology making it possible to mass produce both fertilizers and pesticides, making growing food more efficient. With the oil running out, what do you think will happen to all those hungry mouths? The Pentagon has a pretty good idea of what will happen: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,6903,1153513,00.htmlAnd these loons want to set something loose that can destroy food crops? Bioweapons are like nukes and chem weapons; they don't neatly confine themselves to a geographical area but are influenced by the environment, such as winds. They go where they will...and destroy what they will. These people are NUTS!

When we get Mad
We need to remember to laugh. Even, and perhaps especially, when it seems like no laughing matter.I try to watch the Daily Show before I go to bed every night. It helps. Jon Stewart is a major force for good in the world. When you are talking to others about the things that make you angry, having a good sense of humor about it can help them to relate. There's a time for seriousness, yes. But usually it's not the best ice breaker. But I was brought up as a Jew, and my culture is steeped in this kind of thing. When I find myself really furiously angry, I try to imagine myself, and figure out how funny I might look, and then laugh at that. This is not to devalue the reasons I was angry, but to put it in a context. I've also seen what I can do when I'm angry, and it's not always pretty, so I'd rather defuse myself quickly than let it escalate. So, in that spirit, here's an interesting site on current events. Don't miss the comments.http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/007323.html

This is bio warfare. It's against the law in my opinion. One of the programs I saw recently says and shows a geiger counter reading high levels of radiation in Iraq from using depleted uranium weapons. We need to get rid of depleted uranium so what a way to do it. Make weapons and use them on another country.

They so need to be humbled. My Father gets on to me about such as arrogance. When is he going to do something about those that claim to be my brothers...Souder in particular and Burton, too? The Sunshine Project News Release
US House Votes to Advance Offensive Biological Weapons Plan***March 15, 2006In an titanic fit of myopia, the US House of Representatives has passed a bill that advances a US plan to wage biological warfare against Colombia and other countries where illicit narcotics are produced. If passed by the US Senate, the bill (HR 2829) will require the US Drug Czar to quickly formulate a plan to field test biological weapons designed to eradicate illicit crops. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) prohibits all biological warfare, including attacks on crops. The BWC has no exemptions - not for the Drug War, nor for the US Congress. The US eradication project thus violates the BWC's Article I, which prohibits development and stockpiling of biological weapons. The Sunshine Project will call upon the BWC to prevent violation of the treaty by the United States. In April, the Sunshine Project will distribute an Agent Green dossier to governments attending a preparatory meeting for the BWC's upcoming 6th Review Conference. If the US bill is signed into law, the Sunshine Project will press for multilateral action by the BWC 6th Review Conference itself, when it meets in November.Opposition in South America, the primary target of the plan, spans the political spectrum. When first confronted by US biowarfare pressure in 1999-2000, the Colombian government decided against testing and use of biological agents to eradicate illicit crops. Other Andean countries also oppose the plan, as do many environmental and peace NGOs. So do indigenous peoples who grow coca for cultural purposes unrelated to the drug trade, a constituency that includes Evo Morales, the recently-elected President of Bolivia.Speaking to the Colombian daily El Tiempo on Monday, former Colombian President Andrés Pastrana, now Bogotá's Ambassador in Washington, emphatically reiterated Colombia's opposition to the plan, telling the paper, "During my government we opposed it. And Colombia's position, now under President Álvaro Uribe, has not changed."The main biological weapons agents under US consideration are strains of the fungus Fusarium oxysporum that attack coca and other illicit crops. With its serious human health and environmental risks, F. oxysporum has been dubbed "Agent Green" by civil society opponents, who liken it to the defoliant Agent Orange that was used by the US in Vietnam. In the US conception, huge amounts of specially-formulated Fusarium would be sprayed from large military aircraft to blanket large portions of Colombia and, potentially, other countries. The HR 2829 provision does not specifically mention Colombia or Fusarium, although it does specify that the testing plan should be for a "major drug producing nation". This opens the possibility that the tests could be conducted elsewhere, such as Central Asia, where the US has supported development of biological weapons for use against opium poppy. Given past events, however, the bill's language is widely interpreted to refer to Colombia. The Sunshine Project hopes that the US Senate will catch this egregious mistake and that the provision will be struck from any related bill that it considers. With US fear about a biological weapons attack and spending on biodefense both at unprecedented levels, it is difficult to envision a more unwise US policy than for it to field test biological weapons and to seek to perpetrate a biological attack on other countries.------SOURCES FOR BACKGROUND INFORMATIONThe Sunshine Project maintains an Agent Green web page, including a detailed background report (updated in September 2005) on the human health and environmental risks at: http://www.sunshine-project.org/agentgreen/Independent researcher Jeremy Bigwood has also extensively investigated the issue. His Agent Green website is: http://www.mycoherbicide.info/In 2000, the BBC's flagship investigative journalism program Panorama interviewed proponents of the plan, including the US "inventor" of Agent Green, who concedes that it constitutes biological warfare and says that it should be applied by force: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/948102.stm-------HR 2829:PDF copy (see page 30): http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=109_cong_bills&docid=f:h2829rfs.txt.pdfHR 2829, titled "An Act to reauthorize the Office of National Drug Control Policy Act", was sponsored by Rep. Mark Rep Souder, an Indiana Republican. The Agent Green provision was placed in the bill at the behest of Rep. Dan Burton, another Indiana Republican who is an enthusiastic supporter of using biological weapons against Colombia and other countries. As reported to the US Senate this Monday, the provision reads as follows:SEC. 6. AMENDMENTS RELATING TO APPOINTMENT AND DUTIES OF DIRECTOR AND DEPUTY DIRECTOR.
...(n) REQUIREMENT FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF MYCOHERBICIDE IN ILLICIT DRUG CROP ERADICATION.-Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy shall submit to the Congress a report that includes a plan to conduct, on an expedited basis, a scientific study of the use of mycoherbicide as a means of illicit drug crop elimination by an appropriate Government scientific research entity, including a complete and thorough scientific peer review. The study shall include an evaluation of the likely human health and environmental impacts of such use. The report shall also include a plan to conduct controlled scientific testing in a major drug producing nation of mycoherbicide naturally existing in the producing nation.http://www.sunshine-project.org/publications/pr/pr150306.html

I understand why people in other countries hate us so. It isn't us they hate but our leaders arrogance. Since we don't own many cargo ships since we even outsourced them how will our leaders react when some country refuses to ship us needed products? That's what we do to other countries. What goes around comes around I honestly believe.

"Those that rule our country really don't seem to care about us or people around the world. I was taught to fear Russia as a child because they wanted to take over the world. What the heck are we doing? What's the difference? Hopefully the young people will rise up and say no more. If they don't it will be their loss and a great loss it will be."I know what you mean. Now, I'm so afraid of our own leaders and their truly wreckless decisions, I'm wondering if maybe Russia might could help us, by getting our leaders back to some sort of sanity somehow. Perhaps they would send diplomats to try and talk some of the lunatics we have in power over us now, down from their high point of facist insanity. This nation needs help. God knows we need a lot of help and we need it fast.

Thanks Ekim
I went to DrugWarRant and found the article. I really don't understand this. What drives people to destroy plants? It will turn on other plants. Don't they know that? http://www.unobserver.com/layout5.php?id=2195&blz=1

Wednesday, March 15, 2006 Congress tells ONDCP to test Biological WeaponsJust when I think we can sink no lower.
Buried in the ONDCP re-authorization that the House passed with only 5 "no" votes was this piece of crap (pdf, see page 30):

(n) REQUIREMENT FOR SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF MYCOHERBICIDE IN ILLICIT DRUG CROP ERADICATION.-Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy shall submit to the Congress a report that includes a plan to conduct, on an expedited basis, a scientific study of the use of mycoherbicide as a means of illicit drug crop elimination by an appropriate Government scientific research entity, including a complete and thorough scientific peer review. The study shall include an evaluation of the likely human health and environmental impacts of such use. The report shall also include a plan to conduct controlled scientific testing in a major drug producing nation of mycoherbicide naturally existing in the producing nation.
Marc Souder sponsored the overall ONDCP re-authorization, and the specific biological warfare section was inserted by Dan Burton (also from Indiana).for more go to www.drugwarrant.com

Where Have All The Hippies Gone?
Exploring what remains of Palo Alto's counterculture Excerpt: While romanticizing counterculture serves personally more as therapy from a generation that welcomed nonconformists, activism, and political awareness, I hope to bring the culture of the flowers back to our generation. There's a dire need for dialogue and activism. And there is a dire need for a socially aware culture, a culture that this generation can call our own — with musician icons, philosophical inquiry, and even the presence of mind altering substances. Gazing across the street to my future home at Stanford, I'm weary about change, but at the same time I'm anticipating the return of the Palo Alto bohemian. Perhaps, I'll even purchase a school bus, paint it psychedelic colors, and embark on a trip across Bible Belt America — to engage in dialogue with an eclectic group of people. Due to liability issues, the hallucinogens may not be present, but the energy will! You're all invited. Join me for this generation's trip; the magical mystery tour is waiting to take you away! Still Arresting?
“We're obviously very pleased, but our work is clearly not done,” said Tvert, who mentioned that police are still arresting people that smoke marijuana in Denver. “We don't want people to break the law, but we want people to consider the options.”If local police are still arresting tokers in Denver then why aren't folks suing? Sue the hell out of them!!!
Mason Tvert has a way of keeping his organization in the news! THE WAY OUT...911 EYEWITNESS SHOWS AT INTERNATIONAL PRESS CONFERENCE:

Glad you like it. I hope you wife enjoys my little page too. I know that Neil Young doesn't sell his music for commercials. If he does it isn't often. Our House was written by Stills so Neil doesn't have control over that song. He'd be a lot richer if he did sell his music. What I mind is they act like they haven't made us feel terrible for being the way we are or liking the music we do and that's what bothers me. I want them to stop denying us.

My wife's a little bit Irish too, so thanks.I'm really pretty disgusted by the Ameriprise and Fidelity investment companies using the music of the '60s for their advertising. (Also, I'm annoyed that Peter Gabriel's music is being used to sell cellphones.)

Off Topic
Has anyone noticed that Fidelity is using In-a-gadda-da-vida? They ask if we need Flower Power. Well we sure wish they would acknowledge that we have rights to be who we always have been. http://www.ironbutterfly.com/

Happy St. Patrick's Day
It's a little early but it fits with the article. I'm a little bit Irish and we always celebrated the day so here's a page I made a few years ago.http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/irish.htm
