Colorado -- Marijuana supporters blazed a trail through downtown Boulder on Saturday as part of the global Million Marijuana March. Supporters huffed and puffed marijuana as the group trekked down University Hill and Pearl Street Mall."There's nothing more important in America than to fight for your rights. Free the weed," shouted Jeff Christen-Mitchell, president of the Boulder chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).
Participants wore mushroom necklaces, Bob Marley shirts, and held pro-marijuana signs. One sign read, "Bill of Rights - digging it "Stop the war!"No one seemed to oppose the march, not even the police. "It would be marijuana madness (if the police stepped in). It just isn't in the Boulder Police Department's playbook," said Christen-Mitchell.While marching in front of the courthouse the group passed a Boulder Police officer. The policeman took notice of the group, but did not take any action. The group said that officials often turn a blind-eye towards marijuana usage in Boulder. That isn't the case for the rest of the country.Dana Biel the founder of Cures-Not-Wars started the Million Marijuana March in New York in 1999. In its sixth year there are marches in more than 200 cities in 37 countries. The idea for an international marijuana rally germinated out of an annual pro-marijuana demonstration in New York City. The march is a global effort that has a mission to re-legalize marijuana. This is the third annual Million Marijuana March in Boulder, but it is the first year NORML has sponsored it."The drug war is mismanagement of resources," said Christen-Mitchell as he inhaled a hit of marijuana. Some drivers who passed the march in Boulder honked their horns in support of the movement. Others cheered on the protesters."Way to go. Light one up for me," said one man who drove past the marchers.Protestors said marijuana usage has some false stereotypes. They said marijuana can be healthy if used in the proper manner.Fighting marijuana is one war the United States should not be apart of, according to Christen-Mitchell."I believe the drug war has done untold damage to society," he said.Source: Colorado Daily (UC Edu, CO)Author: Joseph Thomas, Colorado Daily Staff Published: Saturday, May 7, 2005 Copyright: 2005 Colorado DailyContact: letters coloradodaily.comWebsite: http://www.coloradodaily.com/Boulder NORMLhttp://normlforboulder.org/CannabisNews -- Cannabis Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/cannabis.shtml

Let me just add my voice to the choir about not using IE.Allow me to frame it this way: to use IE is conformist, falling in line with "the man"; to use Mozilla is hip and nonconformist! They are right, IE is risky and not secure. In fact, based on the nature of CNews, I would *expect* you to already have been hacked by unfriendlies who have figured out that you're unprotected. If I were running an activist website like CNews, I would want to have as much security as possible...

BGREEN....is right about IE
Firefox just takes a little tweaking to set-up as you want then it's best browser I have ever used...kewl as ice :)
As for OS's, I use 64-bit Hoary hedgehog -Ubuntu Linux on all my computers and can't imagine my life without linux, as I would've been caught and jail years ago...BUT I have alot of $$$ in windows programs and a couple of things I use them for so I dual boot, but I've noticed myself shrinking windows partitions 2 times already this year...Gates better be hearing footsteps. But as for active x, this isn't the only hidden service/language computers have buried to talk to each other...but all modern os systems use some forms of x as that is really just the "windows" you see that represent text base computing that your not seeing...even my linux uses forms of x when I'm not in command line. As for hidden files, all my computers are dual boot Windows/linux of different flavors and when I go look into windows drives with my linux you would be amazed at all the junk I can see that was invisible under windows and I'm a geek and know how to look. Also FoM, I'm like you and don't put crap on my computer I wouldn't say in front of my mom...BUT I've learned that there is alot more than steal secrets them little script kiddies who troll the net can do to you...the hackers trails all lead back to zombie boxes of people we can't bust for being stupid so the crimes go unpunished, and gov't fishing goes unnoticed...hell half the windows boxes for friends I fix are really just Zombies (computers which run just fine for users usually...until they go to bed...no activity for 2 hours say...then presto the box turns into a remote control hack machine to do all kinds of crap...AND it's irresponsible or lazy windows users who allow this to happen just like if they left their keys in a car and some kids ran over somebody with it. I help people everyday who are to onry to read a manual...well enough of my soapbox today:) Peace and have a nice day, steve tuck

It is time to re-introduce cannabis as a component of Christian religion.I couldn't agree more, seeing how Cannabis originates from the very first page of the Bible. Yet most Christians today deny themselves, and try to deny us, one of God's original gifts of life. I have more fear of rejecting God's gift than of breaking Man's law. If you reject God's gifts, you reject God.Peace. Legalize, then Revolutionize! (medicine)(energy)(nutrition)

You might try and check to see if you can add alternate dns (domain name server addresses) in your browser, operating system network preferences, router or verizon box. If you can, add these numbers temporarily:199.199.20.2534.2.2.2Here's some more on this frustrating but apparently common and intermittent problem:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/7525

FoM, you don't understand the danger
It has to do with something called Active-X and it is exclusively an IE function. It's not a matter of a pop-up or a unviewable website, it's allowing people to secretly take over peoples' computers just by surfing to a website. This is criminal because microsoft's shoddy programming is to blame and they know it. They stopped a lot of the visible things but they did nothing to keep it out of your computer in the first place.Do me one big favor and ask Matt. I know you trust him and if he says you're fine using IE then I'll shut up.I'm just worried about my CNews family. The Reverend Bud Green

I tried a German Proxy and still nothing
I should have been able to bypass my ISP by using a proxy but the German proxy couldn't load mpp.org either. The IE issue is completely independent of the mpp.org problem.Hackers are exploiting flaws in IE to cause major damage to peoples' computers. This is information coming from security experts. Just because you haven't been hit so far is creating a false sense of security. Thank God right now you've been lucky and switch browsers.Do a search on google and find out for yourself. The fact that NO security expert in the world uses IE that doesn't work for Microsoft says it all.The Reverend Bud Green

IE has worked flawlessly for me too. I asked afterburner to check since he has an isp connection. Hopefully he'll see my post on another thread and check. I've never heard of a problem like this before since it's only one web site. I take that back. Years ago when I had an ISP I had trouble coming to CNews but no where else and I never figured it out. I don't remember why it did what it did.

It's like letting a thief into your house
I use Firefox now and it's SO easy.Do me a favor. There's nothing to keep you from using more than one browser so go to mozilla.org and download Firefox.Install it and check it out.You don't have to dump IE but I'd bet you your 1939 tractor that a bunch of the problems you've had in the past were caused by IE. XP service pack 2 installed a pop-up blocker for IE so I'm not surprised that you haven't had a pop-up. I'd bet you your riding mower that there's been a bunch of crap stored on your computer even though you haven't seen anything.Everybody that I know likes Firefox better than IE even though it's hard to get people to switch. The Reverend Bud Green

XP service pack 2 and IE
I have never had any problems with IE since the new serve pack. No pop ups or anything, they have an internal pop up blocker that works flawlessly. This is my first problme in a while, and it isn't related to the browser as far as I can tell. That would be a contradiction to what I have observed since it works on the same computer on different connections.

This is from this weeks Spyware Newsletter
Unlike the hundreds of thousands of people who find my site after searching Google, desperate to find out how to remove some obnoxious piece of spyware relentlessly spamming them with pop-up ads, I almost never have to deal with spyware infection on my own computer. Many people ask what I use to protect myself, so I'll list it all below. The most effective single thing I do to prevent malware infection is not to use Internet Explorer (MSIE). There are so many malicious programs that will infect a computer through MSIE that I don't believe it's possible to count them all. Instead, I browse the web using Firefox.Firefox is highly resistant to malware infection. There are a growing number of malicious web sites attempting to target it but none of them do it very well. In all cases so far, every method of installing malware through Firefox requires that the user voluntarily install it. Some people obliviously will give the malware permission but I am not one of them. The rule of thumb for any browser is, if something pops up asking permission to install software or to run a script, say "no" unless you know why the box is asking permission and you know that it is no cause for concern.

FoM, that browser shouldn't be used!
Every security expert in the world says DUMP IE!Firefox is top rated by the pros and it's absolutely free.I know you've heard this before but you're inviting trouble with that microsloft piece of crap. They hide all of the cache info all over your computer and you can't delete it.If you've never trusted anything I've ever said, believe me when I tell you that IE is spying on you.I've built all of my computers so I know quite a bit more than the average computer user and I'm appalled at all of the hidden information I find in invisible folders that is stored by IE.The Reverend Bud Green

ISP's use a cache also
If you have a mega-ISP then there's a good likelyhood that many people surf to the same websites. ISP's use their own cache to reduce redundancy. Many times you've never even reached the actual website, you're looking at a copy stored on your ISP's server. The Reverend Bud Green

Those aren't related to the cache
The cache is seperate from the cookies and history. What browser do you use? If you use Firefox go to Tools and then Options then Privacy and at the very bottom is Cache. Click on the Clear button and then try the mpp.org test again.I'm trying to track down the problem and I need to eliminate every possible problem. The Reverend Bud Green

It goes beyond just loading the website. Running traceroutes in command prompt is fruitless, the connection simply times out.

My bro uses verizon as well, the exacty same DSL service in the same town. I used my exact same computer that can't load it on my connection, I took that same computer over to his place and MPP website loaded just fine. I have cleared all my internet cache, I have done a full virus scan on both of my computers. It can't be the computer if I simply plug it in over there and it works. It has to be Verzion... but at the same time it is so freakin weird because it's only MY verizon connection. I am so perplexed.

FoM, The MPP website
I still can't access the MPP website. It is the only web server I am not able to access on either one of my computers since around monday. For a test, I took my laptop which can't load it in my apartment to my brother's to see if it would load on his connection. It did. So I know it is not my computers, it is somehow Verizon. I plan to call Monday. Anyone have any experiences like this before? The MPP website will time out everytime and I can load every other website on the web.
