Citrus Heights planning commissioners, including one who described himself as a "four-year cancer survivor," approved a medical marijuana dispensary on Greenback Lane. The decision came Thursday night after a two-hour public hearing and ended several months of debate about the Cannabis Patients Co-op proposed by Mary Jennifer Berg at 6240 Greenback Lane, a few blocks east of Auburn Boulevard.
Commission Chairman Jack Duncan and Commissioner Bill Van Duker said that they probably would not recognize cannabis if it were dropped on the table in front of them.Van Duker described himself as a "four-year cancer survivor" who spent almost a month in a local hospital. He had an extreme reaction to the pain medications, he said, which helped him understand why doctors might recommend medical marijuana for some patients. He also criticized the general effectiveness of the federal effort to halt illegal drug activity."The war on drugs has been a failure," Van Duker said. "It has been about as successful as Prohibition. I don't see this particular dispensary as a black blight on the neighborhood."Duncan, however, voiced doubts. His said his auto-dismantling business was invaded a few years ago by men who thought that marijuana was being stored on the premises."My son had a gun held to his head," Duncan said. "It's scary, and it has taken us two years to get over this."Berg, who has described herself as a primary caregiver for her sick mother, said she has developed an awareness of the need for medical marijuana. When asked why she was continuing to press for the license, Berg said, "because it is the right thing to do.""Those people should be able to get their medicine from a dispensary, instead of a street thug," Berg said.Snipped:Complete Article: http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/citrus.htmSource: Sacramento Bee (CA)Author: David Richie -- Bee Staff WriterPublished: Saturday, December 11, 2004Copyright: 2004 The Sacramento BeeContact: opinion sacbee.comWebsite: http://www.sacbee.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Medicinal Cannabis Research Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/research.htmCouncil Restricts Medical Pot Salehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread18665.shtmlCity Adds Medical Pot Restrictionshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread18863.shtml

Dankhank
That's really cool to read. We kept Red Rocks Live playing for many hours yesterday. It was pouring down rain for much of the concert. It sure is worth buying this DVD if you like Neil Young. The news is so depressing I don't want to watch it. How can you stay in a good mood with all the garbage this administration is dumping on us so the news stays off and I look to google news to see what is really going on that matters in the world.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/103-4298376-9539064

Red Rocks
A beautiful place, SW west of Denver, round Morrison.Great Natural Sandstone formations carved into an outdoor concert hall.Red Rocks makes a good day trip to just climb the rocks, been there a few times, most notably, the first time, in 1995.Interesting... the last time I was in Denver there was an ad in a local music trade paper about an "all-ages show" at the Rocks featuring among other acts: Kottonmouth Kings, Insane Clown Possy, Reverend Horton Heat...you can get the picture now, if you know anything about these acts. "All-ages?" Wondering Minds

A Saturday Thought
This flu is really hard to shake and I had a bad night last night and got depressed too. Today I said to myself turn off that lousy news and change what you are thinking about. We picked A Neil Young DVD called Red Rocks Live. We are watching Neil Young play and sing Cowgirl in the Sand. He wrote that song when he had a raging fever and it came from somewhere good. Neil Young said Greendale came to him that way too. Steve Earle's music comes from somewhere good too. John Fogerty's new song Deja Vu All Over Again came from somewhere as he pointed to the sky in the Vote For Change Tour. He said that it was already written for him. The words and music just came. I've decided today that God has good taste in music.

Both Consequences of Cannabis Prohibition
{"The war on drugs has been a failure," Van Duker said. "It has been about as successful as Prohibition. I don't see this particular dispensary as a black blight on the neighborhood."{Duncan, however, voiced doubts. His said his auto-dismantling business was invaded a few years ago by men who thought that marijuana was being stored on the premises. [Thieves prize cannabis because the federal government has a deliberate policy of instigating the high price of cannabis (in the range of the price of gold), due to a lame attempt to cut the supply, the failure of interdiction.]{"My son had a gun held to his head," Duncan said. "It's scary, and it has taken us two years to get over this."}[The violence associated with illegal medicine is also a consequence of the artificially inflated price and the unregulated nature of the black market.][*comments added]Congratulations to the Citrus Heights planning commissioners for having the wisdom to approve this needed dispensary (Cannabis Patients Co-op).
