Eureka -- In a precedent-setting move, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors approved a permit Tuesday for a controversial medical marijuana dispensary in Willow Creek. The board voted 3-1 Tuesday, with Supervisor Jimmy Smith dissenting, to allow the Humboldt Patient Resource Center, which has operated a successful medical marijuana clinic in Arcata for five years, to open a dispensary and growing operation in this unincorporated community along state Highway 299.
The board's decision sets a precedent, as it is the first time the county has approved such a project. The decision came over the objections of a number of Willow Creek residents who spoke in opposition to the dispensary. It also overturns the county Planning Commission's rejection of the dispensary last month. In October the Planning Commission deadlocked 3-3 over whether to approve the HPRC's permit request, which the county's planning staff supported. The tie vote in effect was a denial of the project. The HPRC appealed the denial to the Board of Supervisors, which heard a report from the planning staff and listened to the objections of several Willow Creek residents Tuesday before making its decision.Supervisor Bonnie Neely, present at the board's morning session, was absent from the afternoon hearing when the appeal was heard. Willow Creek is in Supervisor Jill Geist's 5th District.Opening in the same location where a previous medical marijuana club operated for a brief time earlier this year, the HPRC operation will be open just three days a week to dispense organic marijuana grown on location by appointment only.Only patients with recommendations from licensed physicians, as required under California's Compassionate Use Act, will be sold marijuana, said Linda Anne Cummings, director of the Arcata HPRC.There will be no signage outside the building.A number of Willow Creek residents wrote letters to the county opposing the HPRC's permit application. Many were on hand for Tuesday's public hearing, and of the six Willow Creek residents who spoke, all were opposed."I don't want to change the atmosphere in Willow Creek," said a resident who identified himself as Patrick Bryant.Bryant's comments were typical of those who spoke in opposition. However, Cummings said the HPRC has been a "good neighbor in Arcata and we will be good neighbors in Willow Creek."The Board of Supervisors approved the permit under the provisions of a 14-point "plan of operations," which was expanded at the meeting by Supervisor John Woolley, who made the motion to approve the permit. The provisions establish detailed criteria and restrictions and provide for an annual review of the HPRC's operation.Smith, the lone supervisor to vote against approving the permit, said he was not comfortable allowing the clinic to operate before the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on California's Compassionate Use Act, which is expected before June of 2005."I think we might be a little soon on this project," Smith said.Source: Times-Standard (CA)Author: Andrew Bird, The Times-StandardPublished: Wednesday, December 08, 2004 Copyright: 2004 MediaNews Group, Inc.Contact: editor times-standard.comWebsite: http://www.times-standard.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Medicinal Cannabis Research Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/research.htm Supervisors Pass Medical Pot Ordinancehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread19182.shtmlProposed Medical Pot Guidelines Fair, Mercifulhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread19173.shtml

Stick is right.
When we first invaded Iraq, I was amazed at the idea that some people had that the Iraqis would rejoice to see their American "liberators".That's just demented. I thought to myself what I would think of a horde of foreign invaders coming to "save" me by taking over my country.(That's what the prohibitionists do...they "save" people by killing and imprisoning them and stealing and destroying their property.)If I were an Iraqi...no matter how much I despised Hussein...I would not be happy to see total outsiders come in and take over.Imagine how horrible it would be if Saudi Arabia or Russia or Japan invaded our lands to save us from George Bush.I will always believe they could have taken Hussein if they really wanted to without invading Iraq.Too late now.Buckets of blood. Buckets.

about fighting
Don't get me wrong about fighting. I totally believe in defending myself and others from people or things that would harm me or them. Defense though...not revenge.I'm not for going into other people's houses and beating the thunder out of them just in case they had any ideas.

Muslims that fight for their country are just trying to get us out of their Holyland and I can't blame them. I don't blame our soldiers either. They are fighting if for no other reason then they must so they aren't killed or a fellow soldier isn't killed.Extreme Muslims are not the majority anymore then radical christians who bomb abortion clinics are not the majority. War is Hell!

Asking about love
I've asked. So far I haven't found any. Just more "but..."The Muslims that are killing others while professing the Prophet...are lying, too, and deceiving themselves...just like the Christians that believe revenge is theirs to exact.Let me point out that the poor soul forced to be a soldier and life taker is not the offender to my mind. He or she is another victim of wicked devices. Calling a wicked device Christian, Muslim, Bhuddist or whatever doesn't change the fact that it's still a wicked device. Love. What a concept.

I don't understand why some people don't see. I have family members that believe Bush is a good god fearing christian. Ask a Bush supporter if they can find love in their heart for Muslims. I think the answer would be no most times. The Muslim religion teaches tolerance of other religions. They even had a catholic church in Baghbad! The Muslims are also sons of Abraham. This is just my opinion.

Bush and Iraq
I'd like to write Bush and ask him...but I know he would never see it, or care, if he did. I'd like to ask him, though...why he professes Christianity so proudly and often...yet, obviously, literally DESPISES even the most basic foundational teachings of the religion he professesUsing his own words, with a big difference…”If he’s not with Christ on this…he’s against him”.I did ask my husband the other evening about this. I asked him how he could claim to be a Christian yet support someone who goes out and creates bloodshed, to exact some sort of revenge against someone else. He was rather stunned...but he couldn't deny it. “But...But...But…”This truth, about people calling themselves Christians, who so obviously DESPISE his teachings has been almost overwhelming me lately. I see it everywhere. It’s always been true…but it’s so blatant lately. I have always noticed how many professed Christians ignore the teachings of Jesus…but it’s become so obvious that they not only ignore them...they DESPISE them.Warring is perfectly normal behavior to human kind…but a warring Christian is like someone joining the NAACP but not letting their dues get behind to the KKK.Reminds me again of a plaque I saw..."Yes, Lord...but..."

George Bush took these young men into a country ( invaded a sovereign land that never threatened us ) for OIL and he will have to give an account of this someday. Maybe not to man but he will give an account. They said that there could be around 30,000 troops hurt so far and many will lose their families and homes because separation doesn't settle well with some folks and the money they get paid isn't enough. If they were contractors they'd make big bucks but they are just soldiers ( grunts ) they mean nothing. It makes me very angry everytime I think of what that man did to our country.

Oh no... Already?
http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20041207-121848-6449r.htmEverybody on this board...maybe because so many of us remember Vietnam...foresaw this. This wasn’t an "unforeseen consequence". Except, maybe, by the intentionally blind.

Smith Lost this one for the SC.
This shows the U.S. Supreme Court that Calif. is going to have MMJ and not backing down from them and to get with the program of the States Rights, not big brother.
