Medical Pot-Heads

Will medical marijuana become a reality throughout the nation? Will those who push the use of marijuana for medical reasons prevail over the federal government in those states where the laws have been relaxed? There is a good chance the medical pot-heads will eventually win this cultural battle.Their victory will be achieved if Conservatives have forgotten how to frame their arguments so as to ensure victory. We also can lose because, like children, Liberals never have learned to respond properly to the word, “No!” And, like so many parents, we get worn down and weary of arguing with people who act like children.
The current debate in the courts is about which laws we will obey as a nation. In states where the use of pot for “sick” people is allowed, the federal laws against marijuana, and other dangerous drugs, rules. So in order to stop the feds from crashing through their doors, busting up their pot-growing operations, the citizens of those states have taken Uncle Sam to the Supreme Court. The Liberals or Libertarians argue that pot is not such a bad drug, and they are, in turn, supported by the millions of Americans who tried pot in high school or college and didn’t turn into drug-crazed monsters. Their lives were not destroyed, and, in fact, many enjoyed the experience enough to do it over and over again, thus risking arrest and their chance to take a federal job or go to a military academy where their drug use could become an major issue in a background investigation.Even so, after eight years of the man who “never inhaled,” Bill Clinton, and his staff, upwards of 25%, who had some illegal drugs experience (some were still “using” on the day Clinton was inaugurated), employment policies concerning the experimental use of pot had to be relaxed out of necessity. Did prior drug use contribute to the overall lack of attention to laws, policies, and procedures in the dysfunctional Clinton White House? It could not have helped. The point is not how many people can try marijuana and still maintain an otherwise normal lifestyle. Just as in the case of other illegal drugs, the real point is how many people become addicted and, in the process, destroy their lives and the lives of family and friends around them. Those who have had an addict living with them or near them - perhaps a loved one - know exactly what I am saying here. While 9 out of 10 drug users can smoke pot or snort cocaine and return to their normal life, one cannot. That one becomes addicted and unlike alcohol, drugs can quickly damage brain cells and cause the addict a lifetime of mental and physical health problems that never go away. Marijuana is also a sneaky drug. It’s considered a gateway drug because once the casual user smokes it and enjoys its “benefits” without a serious consequence, the user concludes that the same could be true for other, more serious drugs. Thus the escalation begins and, for so many poor souls, their lives completely unravel. To feed their out-of-control drug habit, the addict often turns to a life of crime. After they have begged, borrowed, and stolen money and valuables from their friends and families, their future becomes the life of a serious criminal, and prison cannot be far behind. The looting of family and friends often results in the loss of support from those closest to the addict, thus the user-addict’s only companions end up being fellow users. Very few can break their drug habits, and their lives are irreversibly destroyed. I know the unvarnished truth about marijuana in a professional and personal way. Many of the criminals I jailed hooked on some sort of drug, having started their sad journey with alcohol, then marijuana – but I also have two addicted relatives whose lives are forever stunted physically, and mentally. Full recovery for both is not expected, and one suffers a permanent heart condition because of the use of cocaine. Their permanent disabilities will likely shorten their lives and dictate how they live in the meantime.I also have a close friend whose relative stuck the family fortune – and it was considerable - right up his nose as he snorted cocaine for decades. All the money is now gone, and he still uses.Pushing to legalize marijuana is the best evidence of the remarkable, deadly selfishness of your average, self-centered Liberal. They know the above facts better than most because many of their close friends have become addicts, and their lives were destroyed. Yet selfish, self-centered Liberals don’t care about any of that – they just want their marijuana, cocaine, or whatever designer drug is in fashion. What they won’t admit is that many cannot enjoy their sexual activities without using the drugs – this is the dirty little secret that nobody wants to talk about. The effects of marijuana and cocaine are often more powerful than Viagra. The Liberal guy pushes drug use because everyone knows drugs sweep away a woman’s natural reluctance to behave like a barnyard goat. Will the Supreme Court say “yes” to the use of marijuana in medical circumstances? If so, will the Liberals be satisfied? Will the 80% of us who never used illegal drugs and never will, be allowed to continue to enforce laws that were created to maintain a civil, decent society? Or will the Liberals continue to push the limits like they did with abortion, until the medical reasons to use marijuana include lessening the “stresses” of life, or for the prevention of the effects of the “inconveniences of life?”I think we already know the answer, and Conservatives should not budge one inch on this issue. We have ceded enough ground to the selfish, self-centered, and often deadly Liberals who really don’t give a damn what happens to their brothers and sisters. They just want their drugs.Gary Aldrich is the president of The Patrick Henry Center.Source: Town Hall.com (DC)Author: Gary Aldrich Published: November 30, 2004 Copyright: 2004 Gary W. Legalize it
I believe myself to be a conservative in every way one would think a conservative sould would believe. I dont agree with what Gary has wrote. Weed should be legal. I myself use it to sleep, there is no other medication that works for me and I have been on a ton of "legal" drugs. I think that thre are more medical uses than people think. I'm one case taht shows why medical cannabil should be legal. I have one hell of a story, and it is a litle to long for me to write it. If any one knows how to get a hold of a doctor in Nevada that perscribes medical cannabis please let me know.

Gary Aldrich...
...domestic spook:Gary Aldrich founded The Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty in 1997. The Fairfax, Virginia based center is a nonprofit group dedicated to the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the promotion of the memory of Patrick Henry. The Center is universally recognized as an effective supporter of the right of ethical dissent. Mr. Aldrich is known as a champion of free speech. Before founding The Patrick Henry Center, Mr. Aldrich served as an FBI agent for 26 years, specializing in political corruption, and assigned to major cities throughout the U.S. Over a period of 10 years, Mr. Aldrich worked with the Reagan, Bush and Clinton White Houses, and was the senior FBI Senate and House liaison, responsible for the maintenance of national security. A number of individuals on The Patrick Henry Center's boards are considered icons of the conservative movement and giants in their professional field. Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese; Antonio Benedi, Special Assistant to the former and current President Bush; U.S. Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia; Lt. Col. Oliver North; and Rev. Paul Weyrich are but a few of the Center's endorsers or officers. Mr. Aldrich's efforts continue to thrust him into leadership positions within the modern conservative movement. The Center's strongest efforts continue to be so-called whistleblower cases, which assist and defend workers who are compelled by conscience to report corruption within the federal government. Other initiatives underway at The Patrick Henry Center are the Patrick Henry Patriettes, a 2nd Amendment effort; House Managers Appreciation & Scholarship Fund; and Project Eagle, a timely program supportive of scouting in America. It is generally agreed that Mr. Aldrich was a driving force in the 1998 impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton. He was one of a core group (often mislabeled "A Vast Right Wing Conspiracy") who worked tirelessly to assist investigators and the 13 House Managers with the mountain of evidence of Clinton's crimes. However, Mr. Aldrich may be best known as the FBI agent who broke the code of silence with his first book, Unlimited Access: An FBI Agent Inside the Clinton White House. His book skyrocketed to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List, and remained there for 20 weeks. Alfred Regnery, his well-known conservative publisher, has stated that Mr. Aldrich's book was the biggest success in the 50-year history of Regnery Publishing. Most political pundits agree that Unlimited Access remains the book on Bill Clinton.Due to his credibility as a former FBI agent, a White House staff member, Bill and Hillary Clinton's "worst nightmare," and the founder and president of a respected non-profit organization, as well as a #1 NYT best-selling author, Mr. Aldrich has made over 5,000 major radio, and television appearances. Respected media organizations such as ABC's "This Week" & "Good Morning America," NBC's "Meet the Press" & "Dateline," CNN's "Inside Edition," Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" and "Hannity & Colmes" seek him as a knowledgeable and friendly guest. In addition, Mr. Aldrich authors editorials for distinguished publications such as Human Events, The Wall Street Journal, Insight Magazine, The Daily Oklahoman and The Washington Times. He is also a columnist for Worldnetdaily.com.Mr. Aldrich has hosted his own international talk radio show, targeting important issues of the day. He is regularly invited to guest-host or appear as a guest on ABC's shows with Michael Reagan, Roger Hedgecock, Michael Savage and Bob Grant, as well as Radio America Network's "BQ View," and "The Oliver North Show," to name but a few.Mr. Aldrich also speaks at conservative conferences and college campuses nationwide about whistleblowers, national security, changes within the FBI and the Department of Justice, the progress of the modern conservative movement, combating political correctness, and other complimentary initiatives underway at The Patrick Henry Center. Mr. Aldrich and his family reside near Washington, DC.

Does this witless cheerleader even know what Viagra does?Maybe I'm the idiot here, but I missed that memo on barnyard goat behavior. I suppose the inference is that men are the driving force in marijuana consumption.Note to self: Research; what are barnyard goats doing for fun that I'm not?Maybe Ms. Coulter has been discussing her friend Bill Maher's antics and viewpoints around the office, and that's where this guy picks up his facts.

Ever notice how the words of the marijuana prohibitionists tend to fall on deaf ears now? That's because the general population is getting tired of the lies in the message they've been sending. It won't be long until they start getting the message we're sending.

Culture Warrior
Gary Aldrich cracks me up.The ex-FBI agent had his head up his animus when he wrote a gossipy exposé of the Clinton administration. Gay sex and women wearing Birkenstocks really bothered him, and he pined for the days of Bush I's button-downed staffers. Now he rattles on about how dangerous pot is, but confesses that two relatives and a friend's relative wasted their lives on hard drugs. But that's just the tip of the iceberg of Aldrich's mental skills."While 9 out of 10 drug users can smoke pot or snort cocaine and return to their normal life, one cannot. That one becomes addicted and unlike alcohol, drugs can quickly damage brain cells and cause the addict a lifetime of mental and physical health problems that never go away."Here are two howlers. First, if 90 percent of drug users lead normal lives, drugs must be prohibited to protect the 10-percent minority. If Aldrich were consistent, he would then advocate for the prohibition of alcohol, since 10 percent of social drinkers progress into raging alcoholics. But being an ex-cop, Aldrich, I'm guessing, has probably bellied up to the bar with his cop buddies more than once. How else can one explain his absolutely -stupid- belief that "drugs" damage brain cells but alcohol does not? I mean, has Aldrich never seen CT-Scans of the shriveled brains of chronic alcoholics, those pathetic souls we old Venice Beach regulars referred to as wetheads? Clearly, Aldrich is a culture warrior in search of another reason to despise "liberals." Sadly, he's a perfect example of what biologist Robert Melamede dubs the "receptor deficient," an uptight conservative who cannot understand that other middle-class white people actually care about the lives of the poor and ethnic minorities ruined by the drug-war's mindless cruelty.Funny, but pathetic at the same time.

Gary Aldrich sucks things He shouldn't be sucking.
It is a matter of loving one another. We should not cage people for using cannabis. That's not love.Prohibition breath breathes hatred.Out of love, earth must stop caging humans for using what God said is good on the 1st page of the Bible.I don't know if Gary Aldrich will ever get it, but it seems as though He is getting to be a small minority. From the many editorials I read today on the Supremes gig, Editorial boards are speaking out against cannabis being denied to sick people; like I've never seen before.420EDITORIALSThe federal government has never acknowledged what so many doctors and medical researchers years ago concluded -- that marijuana has healing and pain-relieving qualities. Las Vegas Sun http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1719/a09.html?397It is difficult to imagine why the federal government is so adamant about denying sick and dying Americans some relief from their suffering. Ledger-Enquirer (GA) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1719/a03.html?397Law is not an end unto itself. Law exists to facilitate and ensure justice. In that vein, we hope the Supreme Court leaves the use of medical marijuana a states' rights issue. Hickory Daily Record (NC) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1718/a07.html?397The people of California and nine other states have decided that they want their citizens to be able to use marijuana when a doctor prescribes it as medically necessary. The federal government disagrees. So now the question is before the Supreme Court: Who gets to decide? Do the people of these states have the right to make their own laws? Or should these laws be dictated to them by Washington? The court should side with the states. Spartanburg Herald Journal (SC) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1718/a06.html?397We have argued in the past that Congress should amend the federal Control Substances Act to reclassify marijuana from Schedule I to a Schedule II drug, an action that would allow for the medical use of marijuana. Republican, The (Springfield, MA) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1717/a09.html?397It is always amusing ( if seldom enlightening ) to observe lawyers pontificating on medical topics. The voters of California think they should -- as long as the patient's doctor agrees. Absolutist drug warriors in the White House and Congress, however, believe strict federal rules outlawing all marijuana use supersede state and local authority. Even brain cancer patients like Angel Raich of Oakland, Calif., must not be allowed to use medical marijuana. Tribune Review (Pittsburgh, PA) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1717/a04.html?397Pop quiz: Which of the following drugs have federally approved medical uses, yet are highly addictive and can be lethal in an overdose? A zero-tolerance Congress declared war on Woodstock Nation in 1970 by classifying marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, devoid of medical value and illegal in all uses. Thirty-four years later, despite the passage of laws in Oregon and 10 other states allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana for certain conditions, federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents are still sledgehammering law-abiding cancer patients' front doors in order to confiscate their pot. Real conservatives realize....
Real conservatives realize that drug prohibition is part of the nanny state that is so often pushed on us by liberals. Real conservatives realize that if people choose to destroy their lives with drugs we have to let them because trying to stop them creates more problems than it solves. And yes as mayan has already mentioned there are many promient conservatives who think marijuana should be legal. And as I've watched this debate over the years liberals are just as likely if not more likely to defend prohibition as conservatives. One of the biggest prohibitionist organizations is the UN and it doesn't get much more liberal than that. Some of the best anti prohibition articles I've read have come from Nation Review and it doesn't get much more conservative than that.Mr. Aldrich spare us your tired retoric and please don't claim to speak for conservatives. I am one and you don't speak for me.PS Even though I am vastly out numbered by liberals on this site I love to read the articels and the comments and occationally post. Thank you for a great site.
