Alaska’s Marijuana Measure Bucks Feds

Alaska residents are getting ready to vote on Ballot Measure 2, which if approved would allow people 21 and older to use, grow, sell or give away pot. In other words, it would decriminalize marijuana.Proponents say the law is necessary because present laws are ineffective and too expensive to enforce. They also maintain that marijuana is no more harmful to individuals than alcohol, and may, in fact, be less harmful.
Opponents claim marijuana is, indeed, harmful, because it can be a bridge drug to the use of harder substances such as cocaine and heroin. They also say the law would be so loose as to expose many more children to marijuana than presently are exposed. They also point out the measure, if passed, would be in conflict with federal law, and as a result would be of no use to begin with. However, proponents don’t see that as a hurdle. They say if enough states pass similar laws, the feds will have to cave in.Most of us know the prohibition against alcohol in the early 20th century was practically worthless, and Alaska’s marijuana legalization proponents point that out. Prohibitions against things people use widely usually don’t work. They also use alcohol as a model when they say it would be better to regulate and tax marijuana than it is to prohibit it.Opponents say legalization would only invite abuse, which would lead to other problems. They say enforcement of the new law would be more troublesome than enforcement of the old.It is, as they say, a situation worth watching.Charles "Chuck" Doud is the Editor and Publisher for the Madera Tribune. natural balance
Hemp the natural balance To raise from barbarism to an enlightened stage of development.
They are afraid if the people had the natural
T.H.C. they have lossed there control.
the people that (use marijuana) have a better point of view then to, churned up dark undercurrents of ethnic and religious hostility,
as they do.[Gov't.]..
This is why they took it [Hemp] away from the people in the first place, to be able to sell the Bad Oils, and all the other Bad types of Food, just walk into any store and look, So the doc. and big companies have a way to make the big money and keep the people Sick so they have to go see the Doc. all the time, Go back in time, look at all the physical or mental disorder! [we have] that they did not have, there has to be a reason! but the people are waken up slowly that the Gov't. is lying to them.

Two Dudes cartoon
One dude to the other. "Man...it's a bummer being miserable all the time."Dude number 2, " Man, you're right...it brings you down. Put it out of your mind."First dude, "Man, you're right."Both dudes, "Let's listen to some music."End of cartoon.Actually, I did learn a lot about controlling my own mind, i.e., self-control, while under the influence of cannabis. I found that to be an enormous blessing for me personally...at the time and still. I truly didn't grasp the power of self control as much before I used cannabis as I did after.

Cannabis and bad memories
I haven't read the article yet...and I probably should before commenting...but this isn't a normal comment anyway. It's just one of those "abnormal thinking" things left over from my pot smoking days, probably.But...it just occurred to me in reading your post, siege, that the cannabis experience can incline people to be more understanding...thus more forgiving...thus able to put it behind them. That's not scientific thinking of course...but it probably describes in laymen's words what might be part of the ability to forget painful memories that cannabis seems to be able to impart. Or maybe it’s the so-called “lack of initiative ” theory. It’s just “too much trouble” to hang on to that painful memory and under the influence, it’s easy to see how detrimental it is to one’s well being.

Who to vote for? Kerry or Bush?
"Anybody who is undecided at this time doesn't have much of a mind to make up." PRO-HI-BI-TION and all that it entails
Kaptinemo, it is wonderful that they've finally starting using the right word even in print. We've been saying it for years and finally...finally the mainstream media is using it. EJ, I loved to watch Graham Kerr, too. He made cooking fun or funny...or both.GCW, it's got to be dawning on at least some of them that what they've been calling "a snake" all these years is really "a fish". They believed a lie and sooner or later a lot of them are going to be angry about it.

'Compassion club' to open doors
Offering pot. Head-shop owner says he'll sell only to those with doctor's certificate
Wednesday, October 27, 2004http://www.canada.com/montreal/montrealgazette/news/montreal/story.html?id=896e7fc6-a7ea-44f5-b5e6-f5a5c766544aAnother pot-smoking club is preparing to open in Montreal, setting the stage for a clash with a police force committed to enforcing the law as it stands.David Mckenzie, who runs the Duchesse d'Amsterdam head shop on Mackay St., has acquired the lease at the former Bistro California on St. Denis St.On Friday, Mckenzie plans to open a "compassion club" there and sell marijuana to anyone who can show proof of a medical condition that would qualify for legal pot from the federal government. The club and smoking lounge will have a strict no-alcohol policy."It will probably be the spot on the street where there are the least amount of problems," Mckenzie said yesterday about the area, known for its bars."If anyone shows up drunk and stupid, they won't get in."The Manitoba-born Mckenzie, 48, who has been smoking marijuana since his teens, says he also uses pot to ease the pain of a 24-year sciatica condition."In the rest of Canada it's not so hard to get medical marijuana, but doctors here are reluctant to sign for patients."It's easier to get morphine through the system than it is to get medical marijuana."Though he says pot smoking eases his sciatica, Mckenzie says he also tokes up for pleasure. While he plans to have a lounge for "social smokers," McKenzie will sell only to anyone who has a doctor's note certifying a condition that would qualify for medical marijuana. He plans to charge about $200 for 25 grams. It will be local weed, as "the stuff that's grown here in Quebec is comparable to anyplace."Montreal police also have plans. They will bust the place, as they did in November when Chez Marijane opened on Rachel St. E., Constable Miguel Alston said. "For sure, if anyone is selling drugs, an arrest is possible anytime," Alston said.Marijuana Party leader Marc Boris St. Maurice was among several arrested at Chez Marijane. He has pleaded not guilty to possession, and yesterday he welcomed the new initiative."It will certainly put the issue back on the map, and that's always a good thing," he said. "The more you apply a bad law, the sooner it leads to the law's demise."iblock thegazette.canwest.com

Newspaper endorsement update
From Editor and Publisher, 26-Oct-2004Newspaper Picks: An Analysis of the 2004 Endorsements So Far... Kerry now holds a fairly narrow lead in the number of endorsements, but he has gained many more of the larger papers, holding about a 17 million to 12 million edge by circulation. Most telling, however, is that at least 35 papers that backed Bush in 2000 have now switched to Kerry, and another nine that supported Bush before have declared their neutrality this year. Only five so far have gone from Gore to Bush. This imbalance may be critical. There is a popular misperception that most newspaper endorsements inevitably go Democrat, but E&P surveys in the past have shown that the majority, in fact, back Republicans. --- This is true more for smaller newspapers, but even big-city metros are usually split. Seventy-two of the largest papers divided right down the middle in 2000. In 2004, the same papers (at least the ones that have announced their picks) favor Kerry by about a 3-2 margin. ...FLORIDA: Bush is in big trouble here, at least if newspapers have any sway. Every single large paper has gone for Kerry, with the Orlando and Bradenton papers abandoning Bush and The Tampa Tribune (formerly for Dubya) sitting it out. This is how bad it is for the president: As far we know, his two biggest Sunshine State catches so far are the Ocala Star-Banner and The Ledger in Lakeland. So let's give this state to Kerry. In fact, if Bush pulls this one out, E&P promises never to give any weight to editorial endorsements in the future.More: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000684885Daily Endorsement Tally http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000684814

Cannabis kills cancer; then why kill cannabis?
US: Report Supressed That Marijuana Components Can Inhibit Cancer GrowthPubdate: Mon, 1 Nov 2004
Source: Coastal Post, The (CA) http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v04/n1518/a07.html?397420This story mentions many studies from years ago through this last few months. This seems Biblical / spiritual. We have some promising stuff in cannabis; even to help stop cancer, and what the most powerful nation in history does, is attempt to exterminate it.Biblically, that is clearly wicked.Exterminating what God said is good that shows signs of helping grave illness...420

I looove Baked Alaska
I made my first one when I was eight. I started watching this cooking show The Galloping Gourmet. The chef kept drinking wine the whole time and was always slurring his words by the end of the show. Then he had a heart attack and turned to Jesus, but the show sucked after that and it went off the air.But before that, I learned to make Baked Alaska. It's basically oven baked ice cream. I don't know who invented it but they had to be stoned on something.

They said it again!
PRO-HI-BI-TION. The magic word. The only word to apply to what's happened all these years. Prohibition. Synonymous with 'failed'. 'Pointless'. 'Counterproductive'. And sundry other terms for a genuinely FUBAR'ed governmental policy.Prohibition. The Road to Hell has that word stamped into the bricks on it's pavement.

The only way to find out
is to vote yes on measure 2.Legalize marijuana; it is the only way to find out if society will go to hell in a handbasket if cannabis is legal. It goes without saying that society goes to hell in a handbasket with cannabis illegal. I don't know how it can be said any other way. Legalize cannabis and find out what happens. About the only thing left to do.Might be worth a try. There is cannabis everywhere. To think it can be stopped is absurd.
