A rural house with a homemade hook-up to the nearest hydro pole was the site of a $1-million pot bust in Cantley.
Outaouais police conducted a search at 124 Townline Rd. at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday after they were tipped off about excessive use of electricity at the home.Officers found the unfurnished house was converted into a mammoth hydroponic lab for marijuana plants.Police seized more than 1,100 plants and an assortment of lamps, PVC tubing and other cultivation paraphernalia."It was all well-organized," said Lt. Roger Le Blanc, adding that connecting the lab to the closest hydro pole was the handiwork of an electrical whiz."They needed some type of electrical gadget to do that. There had to be an expert who did that for them."Le Blanc said police are investigating where the stash from the pot factory was headed. Police are also trying to nail down who helped keep production humming in the hydroponic lab."We'd like to find out if it was more than one person," Le Blanc said, adding the size of crop begged a sizable crew.Charged with cultivating cannabis is Marc Rivers, 28, of Hull, who appeared in a Hull court yesterday.More charges, stemming from the illicit siphoning of hydro, are expected.
