Medical marijuana activists planted marijuana outside California Highway Patrol offices in Oakland Tuesday to protest a recent incident in which officers recently raided a cannabis garden that organizers say was legal.Don Duncan, the director of the Berkeley Patients Group Inc., said, "We're here today to call on the CHP to stop arresting people and bringing in the federal Drug Enforcement Administration on medical marijuana cases."
Speaking at a rally attended by about 30 activists, Angel McClary Raich, a medical marijuana advocate whose lawsuit against the federal government on the issue will be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, said, "I'm very, very outraged that the CHP called in the DEA and didn't do any investigation before calling them in." Duncan and Raich are referring to a June 30 incident in which the CHP says that a routine traffic stop in Oakland that led them to a nearby warehouse where nearly 4,000 marijuana plants were discovered.Four people were arrested on federal drug charges and face minimum prison sentences of 10 years along with $4 million in fines.Dale Gieringer of California NORML said, "The CHP is out of control" and alleged that the agency didn't follow proper procedures. But CHP spokesman Sgt. Wayne Ziese said by phone that the officers followed procedures by the book.Ziese said that after the traffic stop was made, CHP officers first consulted with Oakland police, but Oakland police then told them to bring in the DEA.Ziese said CHP investigators believed that the marijuana at the warehouse wasn't for medicinal use but instead was part of a criminal enterprise.Ziese said CHP officials likely will remove the marijuana plants that were planted by activists Tuesday. The symbology is striking
Activists plant seeds: a life-affirming act.Cops will tear up living and useful plants: a death-worshipping act.Hardly original, I know, but the entire matter of the importance of cannabis in medical treatment of life-threatening diseases can't be rendered more symbolically than that. From a living plant, comes the hope of life. What comes from the minions of The State? Only death.Only death.

Dr Ganj
It is going to be interesting. As hard as this has been better days are coming. It's hard to look back and see how horribly wrong society has gone in the last 4 years. It's like a bad dream but it's real. You're welcome cloud7!

CHP - I thought they gave out speeding tickets?
I know Don and Angel very well, and if more people would be like them, we wouldn't be in this drug war mess.
Meaning, if everybody who got busted took their cases to trial, this drug war would end. That's right, it's that easy, but very few people have the courage to stand up to thought of being in jail. However, we must take a stand and grow more, teach more, and fight more.
We are very close to seeing these laws change, but we have to keep voting for good laws, and vote out the bad people.
I'm really looking forward to this November, as we are going to see some new faces, and new & welcome pro-marijuana laws.
I know it's been bad, but it will get better.
George Bush will be gone, and marijuana bush will be in!Dr. Ganj

OT Newspaper admits bias 40 years later
This gives me hope but gosh I hope we don't have to wait forty years for certain newspapers to admit to printing government Drug War propaganda without independently verifying whether any of it is true:http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/13/national/13lexington.html?8hpib[LEXINGTON, Ky., July 9 - It began with a joke.Deep into a speech on journalism ethics in May, John S. Carroll, now the editor of The Los Angeles Times, told University of Oregon students about his days as editor of The Herald-Leader in Lexington, Ky., where the running gag among newsroom staff members was that they should print the following "clarification":"It has come to the editor's attention that The Herald neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."Mr. Carroll, who edited the paper from 1979 to 1991, said he was just trying to underscore the difficulty of correcting major mistakes. "I did it primarily to get a laugh," he said in an interview. "I didn't intend to challenge the paper to do anything.

Endangered species
I have always wondered about this. If a federal cannabis eradication program was successful, at a certain number of plants they would have to declare it an endangered species. It would then be illegal to eradicate cannabis, and it cultivation would be encouaged by law. Isn't that interesting?shrox

Mayan
I hope you aren't just saying it here... call or write to CHP and accuse them right to their faces of being federal puppets. Make them think about it. Make sure at the station house they are all talking about this accusation that they are puppets. They'll have to look at it then. Maybe it'll be bad for morale, and that will get picked up on by CHP brass.

CHP = Federal Puppets
Just who does the CHP serve? They are supposed to serve and protect the people - 80% of whom support medical cannabis. The CHP will lose public confidence and cooperation over this. They are now seen as federal puppets. The way out is the way in...The Final Fraud: 9/11 Commission closes its doors to the public; Cover-Up Complete:

I thought everyone knew what BBA meant. I guess it's from my neck of the woods only. I always got a road to tow or a road to hoe or a row to hoe confused. Oh well I'm strange! LOL!Never was sure what a road to tow was though! LOL!
