Seven months ago, a federal appeals court ruled that patients could smoke marijuana with their doctor's recommendation in states that allow for medical use of the drug. Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court said it would reconsider that decision. A ruling is not expected until next year, but whatever the decision, the outcome will likely have ramifications from coast to coast. "This provides the (opening) for patients throughout the country to use their medicine free from interference from the federal government," Robert Raich said.
Raich's wife, Angel, is one of two seriously ill Northern California women who sued the federal government in 2002 for the legal right to grow and smoke marijuana without fear of prosecution. Late last year, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Angel Raich and Diane Monson of Butte County, saying the federal government can't prosecute patients who use marijuana in states that have adopted medical marijuana laws. Among others things, two of the three judges declared, those patients who grow their own medicine, and do not sell it or move it across state lines, are not violating the interstate commerce clause of the Controlled Substance Act of 1970. For years, federal agents and prosecutors relied on that portion of the drug law to combat trafficking. Fahrenheit 9/11: Questions
I finally got to see Fahrenheit 9/11 yesterday. My reaction: Why would Michael Moore seem to hate George W. Bush so much? Is Moore crazy, a terrorist? Why would George Soros seem to hate George W. so much? Is Soros crazy, a terrorist? How does Georgy Boy provoke such reaction? Is he a liar, a hypocrite, a selfish representative for a greedy and callous corporate class? And if GWB and his administration tell such smirking lies about weapons of mass destruction, war, bombing, killing, death and fake freedom, how can we believe anything his administration says about cannabis: phoney safety concerns, saving the children and all the resurrected reefer madness zombie lies? To the critics, especially those who condemn the movie without even seeing it: did Michael Moore just make up the images of the President and his administration, the images of carnage to Iraqis and "coalition" troops, the disillusionment of soldiers and their families in a Hollywood studio on the moon?

self-confidence: plenty
Yes, FoM. That seems to be the general consensus. There's also a great thread on the Supreme Court issue at:http://www.marijuana.com/420/showthread.php?t=30887

grin: yes, a mission . . .
As I've stated firmly and for the record to Mike Smithson, Jack Cole and Loretta Nall, prohibitionists do not stand a chance against me.Thanks for the warm welcome, so many here in FL have similarly known that since I was out of contact, it was for good reason.

If you want to find out a little more about your political beliefs, I highly recommend you go to http://www.politicalcompass.org/ and take the quiz there. It's worth the time and very accurate, probably the best on the web.

wierd
This is the first moment I've had to post anything online, and I'm struck by the irony that I've just arrived back to DeLand, FL after a several weeks tour video taping* in New York, Boston, Washington, D.C. (twice), Richmond, Virginia, Asheville, North Carolina and much more.To read this thread makes me very happy, indeed.Keep it up, folks! People everywhere (cops, public transportation workers, cashiers, strangers on the street) seem to understand these issues, and are increasingly interested in discussing them on camera . . .Wage peace,

Thanks! I appreciate hearing that cannabis has helped you. I've decided that I think I know what political category I fall in. I must be one of those bleeding heart liberals. I never understood actually what that expression meant but I think I understand now.

Health Care, Cannabis Caregiving, one in the same!
As Cannabis is most likely the reason I've not been to a Doctor for 21 years, (and no health care provider helps),
I expect Michael Moore will not let this escape him, as most of the uninsured in America use Cannabis to stave off a myriad of unpleasant symptoms and ailments. Cannabis IS Health Care!' in America, as in 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away, maybe the saying intended to get the message accross that 'a Bud a day keeps the Doctor away!'Home remedies have brought me many 'Doctor-free' years, (after surviving a near fatal crash where I nearly went through the windshield, only to have my Doctor provide me with a very high grade of Cannabis....in 1982, and in Arizona!) Of course it worked, he knew it would, I knew it would, and here I am, 21 years later! That's my 'Health Care story!'With the X-treme Court ruling on Medical Cannabis later this year, it will be HIGH on his radar, so let's help him out!

Michael Moore's Next Movie
Moore to turn guns on US health systemVanessa Thorpe and Gavin Smith in New York
Sunday June 27, 2004
The ObserverMicahel Moore, whose controversial awarding-winning attack on the Bush regime, Fahrenheit 9/11, opens in Britain on 9 July, has revealed that he is to turn his camera on healthcare in the United States. The director and author will attempt to save as many lives as he can by simply intervening with his camera crew during the course of 90 minutes of filming. He hopes to embarrass health insurance companies and hospitals into continuing to care for patients with no cover - highlighting holes in the American system. It will be a deliberate reversal of Moore's decision to stay largely off screen in Fahrenheit 9/11 , the documentary in which he shows illicitly obtained footage of Bush off guard in the White House and of disillusioned soldiers in Iraq. He believes the intrusion of a hand-held camera will be more effective than conventional protests against insurance groups and chain hospitals that 'abuse and beat down' poorer patients. 'I thought, "What if we constructed a film where we could see how many lives we could save in 90 minutes, moving as fast as we can, and our only weapon is the camera"?' Moore said he had the idea when making his TV show, The Awful Truth, shown in Britain on Channel 4. 'We had this guy who was going to die because his HMO [insurers] wouldn't pay for his transplant so we went with him and conducted a funeral rehearsal,' said Moore. 'The HMO was ashamed and paid for the transplant and he lives to this day.' News that the US health service is Moore's new target will be a relief to two groups which had been touted as likely to be next in his sights. It was rumoured Tony Blair's government was Moore's latest subject, but at the Cannes Film Festival - where he won the coveted Palme d'Or - Moore indicated he wanted to look at Disney. He had fallen foul of the entertainment and leisure empire when they pulled out of the distribution of Fahrenheit 9/11 at the last minute.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the movie. Maybe Michael Moore will make a movie about Cannabis and why it's still illegal. I'd like that a lot.

Lesson on shaping opinions in the US: Make a movie
When Michael Moore tackles cannabis prohibition,http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/breakingnews/index.php?id=32obviously high on his list, as he knows everything we know, the war on us will be over. In the meantime, the Cannabis Movement needs to adopt and adapt most, if not all, of Michaels techniques! Look at what he has done in one weekend in America, he has woken the sleeping masses, and is the hippest, youth-respected, forced underground (only 880 theatres ran the film, while 'White Chicks' came in second, far behind Farenheit 911, and was seen in over 2000+ theatres!) The movie will show in twice as many theatres in the next week or so.The word is out, kids know what is cool, and most adults my age (Micheal is two months older than I), are so out of step with the world, that the youth of today are quick to dismiss our views, and rightfully so, as we let someone like bush steal the election, (as Gore was told by Democratic Party bosses to 'back off!) So our generation, like Rodney Dangerfield, gets 'no respect'.
Maybe we can change that perception by getting off our duffs and into the streets folks! Type yourself right into the theatre with some leaflets informing others of the benefits of Cannabis, or register people in line to vote!Wake up Cannabists, Michael Moore is writing the book on how to change the world in one weekend, we can do the same!
One man is responsible for making things better (Moore), one man is responsible for bringing the world to the brink of disaster (bush).
Make your choice and act now, there is no future, there is no past, there is only the present, and what you do with it is a reflection of who you are and the integrity of your intentions. Thanks FOM for putting yourself in one of these positions, we all need role models!Make sure you take as many teenagers as possible to this movie, (grandparents too!) When they hit the streets outraged, there will be hell to pay for bush and his minions.Watch Democracy Now today, if you want to get really pissed off, an independent film-maker, Urban Hamid, has captured footage of American Soldiers (yes, they make me sick with their brain dead, Nazi-like actions, sorry Vets, this isn't WWII), breaking into Iraqi homes, putting hoods over everyones heads, (just like prohibition in America, intended to desensitize us into accepting the brutalization of the elderly, sick, young, helpless, harmless)
www.DemocracyNow.orgSoooo, read these comments from Moore's homepage, and notice how many shows are now attended by policemen, yes, guarding the theatres! A glimpse of how afraid the media, the politicians, and the real terrorists, the bushes, are of the truth being broadcast at a theatre, NOT so near you!
(I will drive an hour and a half to see this film this weekend, as the film will not be here for weeks, Storyteller managers said it wasn't seen to be a moneymaker, but they are trying to get a copy within the next....MONTH! Unbelievable!
