The U.S. Supreme Court, in an order that could mean bad news for medical marijuana advocates, agreed Monday to hear the Bush administration's challenge of a ruling that protects marijuana patients in California from federal prosecution. The administration is appealing a decision in December by the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco that barred federal drug agents from interfering with the growing and use of marijuana by two women, Angel Raich of Oakland and Diane Monson of Oroville.
The Supreme Court may represent marijuana advocates' last hope of fending off the federal government's attack on medical marijuana operations in California that followed passage of Proposition 215, the 1996 initiative that legalized medical use of the drug under state law. The Clinton administration moved to shut down clubs that sprang up around the state to supply marijuana to patients, and the Bush administration has escalated raids and criminal prosecutions. However, the court has consistently rejected challenges to federal drug laws. Three years ago, the justices overturned another Ninth Circuit decision that would have allowed cannabis clubs to distribute marijuana, without risking federal prosecution, to patients who could show a medical necessity for it.Snipped: Complete Article: http://freedomtoexhale.com/hear.htmSource: San Francisco Chronicle (CA)Author: Bob Egelko, Chronicle Staff Writer Published: Monday, June 28, 2004Copyright: 2004 San Francisco Chronicle Contact: letters sfchronicle.comWebsite: http://www.sfgate.com/chronicle/Related Articles & Web Sites:Raich vs. Ashcroft http://www.angeljustice.org/Raich v. Feds screwed up...
The feds argument is easily set aside. The CSA, the federal drug laws are not written to control the use of drugs and dangerous drugs. As the preface to the CSA states, it is for the purpose o preventing recreational drug use. Angel and Diane are clearly using it for medical purposes. Someone pass this on to Angel and tell her I said hello...

Good news from Canada? I hope!
Recent video description from Pot-TVMarc talks to Jack Layton, head of Canada's New Democratic Party, to get his views on Canada's cannabis laws, and Mr. Layton comes back with some astonishing answers. Jack Layton sees cannabis as a "wonderful substance" and if elected PM, he would go further than decriminalizing cannabis, and legalize it with provisions for home use, cafes and personal grows!Today's election news from Reuters:Canada's ruling Liberals will stay in power after Monday's federal election, but will lose their majority in Parliament and need support from the left-leaning New Democrats to govern.I think it's good if the NDP has any pull at all in the Canadian gov't.The Reverend Bud Green

E_Johnson, please read this
I've used a natural insect repellant for several years called "Cactus Juice." I live in the Missouri Ozarks and we have bugs galore here which for some reason have found me to be a favorite meal.I haven't had a single mosquito bite while using Cactus Juice. It really works and it's safe. I'm sure you don't want to spray DEET all over yourself, but please order some of this and use it on yourself and your husband. The Reverend Bud Green

The birds are having tough times
I have a habit of listening for bird calls because we have some very talented mockingbirds in my neighborhood and I know what normal bird chatter sounds like. They are not feeling normal now. I think the birds know there is an epidemic killing them and they are not happy.I wonder if hemp seed would make their immune systems strong enough to fight back. It's really sad to see a bird struggle to walk when it's supposed to fly.

Virgil...
That is very interesting. It looks like the fascists might be bracing for the upcoming military draft and subsequent Martial Law.Regarding this article...So, "all" distribution affects "interstate" commerce, even if that distribution occurs entirely within a given state's borders??? I'd really like to hear the Justice Department's argument on that one! The article says that this decision likely won't be made until June of 2005...a freaking year! I guess that only gives us more time to reach the 15-20% of American's who don't support medicinal cannabis and more time to enlighten all Americans that this is all about State's rights! The way out is the way in...Fahrenheit 9/11: Why the Far Right is Trying to Keep Americans From Seeing It and the Lies, Frauds and Deceptions They're Using:

Did you see this?
The Washington Times reported this on July 16th. These two paragraphs are the entire article. The House Judiciary Committee yesterday passed a bill that allows active-duty and retired law-enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons anywhere in the country. The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act heads to the floor of the House for a final vote before going to the Senate, where a similar bill passed as an amendment in March by a 91-8 vote. The bill permits "qualified" law-enforcement officers — retired, off duty and outside their jurisdiction — to carry a concealed weapon in any state regardless of the state's law. It passed on a 23-9 vote.

Why the negative slant?
I wanted the Court to take up this issue; Thomas himself, writing for the majority in the case 3 years ago, gave out the idea to challenge the Federalist Clause. Our most immediate hope right now is victory through the court system. They very well may win this, and that will destroy the majority of the wall.

Now, Sam, Please
Don't go slapping my man Dennis with that nasty brush; he's already stood up for us. Like a handful of Dems (and yes, some Reps, too) they are the 'voices crying in the wilderness' that inevitably turns into thundering Jeremiahs when they have to. I just hope they get heard in time.

Kerry? Democrats? Mainstream media?
Where are you? This should be Bush's Waco, his Elian Gonzalez, his blow job. The fact that his DOJ even appealed this would be repugnant to most people, if they ever heard about it. Thanks Democrats - for reminding me why I decided to never vote for you again. Once again I am reminded of my prison camp/slavery analogy - The Dems are like the one slave who oversees the others in exchange for nice meals & wine. The Republicans are the plantation owners that set the rules, the dems are the sell-out slave that enforces them (with their public unions - cops, prison guards, etc).
