Vancouver, British Columbia — Marijuana is still illegal in Canada but there's a street in Vancouver that makes San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury look G-rated. On Vancouver's Hastings Street, a gentlemen's agreement with police allows people in that area to smoke pot, so long as no other drug dealing or use takes place.
One bar's motto is, "This is a respectable joint." Many bars even have a "munchies" menu for post pot-smoking eating binges. It's because of this atmosphere that Vancouver has been nicknamed "Vansterdam."Vancouver's mayor not only wants to legalize marijuana but wants the governor to grow, sell and tax it to keep it out of the hands of criminals and to raise money for drug treatment programs. But U.S. drug czar John Walters said the city's lax attitude has turned British Columbia into a drug-smuggling hot spot and noted that marijuana drug seizures have tripled along the northwest border of that province via car, truck, plane, boat and backpack for the past three years. And Canada is flooding the United States with what Walters calls "B.C. Bud."Source: FoxNews.com (US) Published: June 16, 2004Copyright: 2004 Fox News Network, LLCContact: comments foxnews.comWebsite: http://www.foxnews.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Cannabis News Canadian Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/can.htmVancouver Mayor Touts Pot Legalizationhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread18826.shtmlLegalize Pot, Says Mayor Campbellhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16423.shtmlLegalize Marijuana, Senate Committee Sayshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread13989.shtml

Really???
Vancouver, British Columbia — Marijuana is still illegal in Canada but there's a street in Vancouver that makes San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury look G-rated. This is an absurd comment to make. There is no way Hastings street would make Haight-Ashbury look G-rated. It is very clear that John Walter's lack of oxygen is affecting his brain functions and vision. Pull your head out of your... John-boy and get some air and look at the truth.

Canada:3 tons, Mexico:1000s of tons
And Canada is flooding the United States with what Walters calls "B.C. Bud.""To put things in perspective, it is estimated that approximately three tons of Canadian marihuana are seized each year in the United States, while the exports from Mexico alone total thousands of tons annually. During the first half of 1999 alone, U.S. Customs intercepted 547 tonnes of marihuana being smuggled into the country from Mexico. The U.S. are basically their own main source of marihuana." -- Canadian RCMP, 2003
