WALLA WALLA, Wash. An inmate assigned to the greenhouse at the Washington State Penitentiary walked away Saturday morning and might be headed for Portland, Ore., officials said.
Samuel Navarette Aguilar, 27, was serving a term from Clark County for possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to deliver, prison spokeswoman Mary Christensen said. She said Aguilar was a minimum-security inmate and a Mexican national who had a release date in 2000. Aguilar was noticed missing when the inmates were called in for a routine head count at 11 a.m., Christensen said. Aguilar had been working in the greenhouse. There are no walls or fences around the area, and supervisors make only random checks, Christensen said. Aguilar might be heading for the Portland area, where his family lives, Christensen said. He is not considered dangerous.Pubdate: 07/03/99 7:56 PM Eastern©1999 Oregon Live LLC
