Riverside County board asks officials for more details after advocates urge implementation of Proposition 215. 'That's all we wanted,' one says. After listening to emotional testimony from medical-marijuana advocates, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday decided to seek more information about allowing the medical use of the drug.
Board Chairman Roy Wilson asked the county district attorney to explain his view on prosecuting medical-marijuana users. He also asked the county's public health officer to discuss a new state law under which people with legitimate marijuana needs will be given identification cards so they are not arrested."That's all we wanted," said Lanny Swerdlow of the Marijuana Anti-Prohibition Project in Palm Springs. "For years, we've been trying to get this information: How is the law enforced in Riverside County?"California voters in 1996 approved Proposition 215, which legalized the use of medical marijuana. The state Department of Health Services is trying to determine how to implement the state lawon IDs for medical-marijuana users. Counties can offer temporary cards until the state issues a protocol, but Riverside County has not taken up the issue. At the meeting, several patients described how they were prosecuted for growing marijuana to treat their illnesses. Artie Mitchell was a Good Man!
Powdered substances were not what created the problems that led up to Artie mitchells murder. I wouldn't get your information from ficticious Showtime original movies, and tainted media

I probably could do that. It would be a lot harder though since I would have to upload individual articles and make links. I never meant for this little hobby to get this big and I do pass on many articles. Last year there weren't many at all. This year Greendale is well known. I believe there are 5 more concerts and it's over so it should only be about 5 more articles I would think. Three of the concerts are at Radio City Music Hall. I know a person who is flying from Arizona to see the show in NY. He has dedicated fans.

A Third Of That Size Is From The Graphics
You might just have to make an index page with links to the individual stories. You could make is similar to CNews in that you could have a small paragraph or two teaser and a link to the full story. The Reverend Bud Green

BGreen Thanks
I saw it was over 95 KB and thought that's way to big. I didn't expect this many articles for a short tour and it's not over yet. I'll make another page for more and leave this one alone. That makes it much easier. Thanks again.

I talked to my husband and he suggested that I archive it. I think that would be best. The news is slow and what articles I find stay on the front page a long time. It's hard to figure out what to post on the front page or archive. I can't move the articles around once they are posted like some message boards can.

I have it set up to post. I still don't know why it was necessary to be in the article. We shouldn't be judged by what our parents did or do but darn it society is tough on people including us. I'll post it but maybe someone could write a letter to the author and ask why it was necessary. When something sensational is put in an article it distracts from the purpose of what these I'm sure very good people want to accomplish and that is medical marijuana dispensaries.

Hard Drugs
I just remembered that white powdered substances created many of the problems that led up to the murder. Maybe Aaron understands how a legal supplier of cannabis can help people get away from the hard drugs and the black market that sells cannabis along with the trash. The Reverend Bud Green

That's Up To You
The Mitchell's are known to people around the bay area, porn watchers *and* people like me that watch too much TV. It's possible that anybody else might have the same reaction as you did, FoM.Famous people come in all shapes and professions, and the kids can't really help why their parents achieved their fame. The Reverend Bud Green

The Mitchell Murder Is Still Big News
Aaron Mitchell' dad, Artie, was very well known in the Bay area. It's used as an identifier more than an indication of his character.FoM, I know you wouldn't know about the Mitchell brothers and their porn empire, but I saw the E! True Hollywood Stories episode about them. It would be impossible for Aaron and his mom to try to disassociate themselves from Artie and yet still stay active in the same community where the Mitchell brothers saga played out.The Reverend Bud Green

Is it wise to mention the backgrounds of people? I don't know. The antis look for any reason to give us grief and that's why I was concerned and didn't post the article. Do you see what I mean?http://www.pressdemocrat.com/local/news/10potfolo_b1.html

I read about that in a few articles. Why do they need to tell us those details? I didn't understand what it had to do with a new medical marijuana club.

Sonoma dispensary
This will be very interesting for me, since Sonoma is quite close to home turf for me...The ownership of it is an intriguing story too, because the owner is a guy whose dad was a big 70s porn producer who murdered his brother (manslaughter not 1st degree) and only did three years.

News Article from KTVU.com
Plans Sprouting For Two Cannabis Clubs In SonomaMarch 10, 2004SONOMA -- Two Sonoma County cities might become the county's newest sites of medical marijuana dispensaries.Aaron Mitchell wants to open the Cannabis Buyer's Cooperative in downtown Sonoma. His mother Karen Mitchell said this morning they will meet with the city's manager, police chief and planner next week to discuss their concerns about opening the facility in a secure, commercially-zoned area of the city."The only issue is zoning. I don't think they can say this can't be in a commercial area," she said. "We want the city to be comfortable." David Goodison, of the city's planning department, said city officials must decide whether the dispensary needs a use permit and police must determine whether the facility complies with state law."We're not certain yet how to treat it," Goodison said.Mitchell said a state Senate bill that became law in January provides for the dispensing of marijuana to patients who have a valid prescription to use the drug for medical purposes. She and her son want to open the dispensary by April 1.Sonoma County allows caregivers or patients to grow up to 99 marijuana plants or possess up to three pounds of marijuana a year.James Blair, founder of a Berkeley marijuana dispensary, has announced plans to open a cannabis buyer's cooperative in Sebastopol.Sebastopol officials expressed initial support for Blair's plan to open the cooperative in a commercial area but more meetings are to be held with city officials including the police department. There are two other medical marijuana cooperatives in Guerneville.Ernest "Doc" Knapp, of the Sonoma Alliance for Medical Marijuana, said Mitchell's and Blair's proposals are unique because they publicly announced their intentions to open cooperatives rather than planning to operate them discretely."Most of those who start a co-op just open up, they don't go through the city process," Knapp said. Why Don't They Sue?
Don't these people realize that they can sue the county if the county files criminal charges. The county is breaking the law! Sue them!

Riverside County: Supervisors are also asked to support a state identification card.
 Tuesday, March 9, 2004
By Michael Coronado, The Press-EnterpriseAbout a dozen medical marijuana advocates told Riverside County Supervisors on Tuesday to stop harassing residents and learn about the law that governs those who grow and use cannabis under the guidelines of Prop. 215. The protesters carried signs in front of the county administration building, some chiding the enforcement tactics of District Attorney Grover Trask. "You should be ashamed that we are here before you," said Craig Canada, 48, a former resident of Desert Hot Springs. Prop. 215 provides for legal protection for medical marijuana patients. An incredible injustice
This article mentions a couple who spent $30,000 fighting felony charges which were eventually dismissed. That's great that they won't be going to jail, but now these very sick people are out thirty grand!! That's totally wrong. They need to sue the county to get that money back. They never should have been prosecuted in the first place. They should not have to lose that money simply because Riverside County officials were too stupid or stubborn to recognize and implement California law---a law they are duty-bound to follow and know! What BS!!
