Los Angeles, CA -- Ahimsa International ("Ahimsa"), a non-profit organization, last Friday submitted to Governor Schwarzenegger and California county supervisors a proposal for a program advocating a comprehensive approach to SB 420 compliance, including statewide, county-owned, medical cannabis dispensaries. “Ahimsa International is committed to developing innovative programs to help reduce and prevent social and environmental degradation,” said Ahimsa’s president, Ms. Dana Jay.
“Our proposal for a self-sustaining, statewide county program that prioritizes health and safety demonstrates this commitment. The Medical Cannabis Safety Program (MCSP) is a potent prescription for seriously ill patients, environmentally devastated state and national forests, and ailing county and state treasuries.”Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was requested to encourage and empower county officials to take action to implement the MCSP as an immediate, remedial measure to comply with SB 420, and to rejuvenate devastated county budgets. As a result of a lack of regulation by either the U.S.D.A. or the F.D.A., the MCSP will provide responsible administration and regulation of the cultivation and dispensation of safe medical cannabis to qualified patients. Designed to prioritize and ensure the safety of patients, implementation of the MCSC’s 5-pronged approach will involve the cooperation of the California Medical Cannabis Growers Guild, the California Medical Cannabis Directory, Ahimsa International, the Medical Cannabis Safety Center, and California counties. The MCSP addresses yet-to-be-fully-recognized health and safety hazards, including patient health risks due to contamination of medical cannabis by pesticides, herbicides, and bacterial and fungal agents, and severe environmental damage to watersheds, wildlife, and forest resources caused by abundant illicit marijuana gardens. According to conservative estimates, by the DEA, the illicit cannabis industry in the U.S. grosses over 1 quadrillion dollars annually. By redirecting the flow of profits from the black market into county treasuries, the counties move simultaneously towards the achievement of self-sustainability and a victory in the war on drugs. There are many reasons to implement the MCSP, the best of which is that to refuse it would mean the perpetuation of a thriving cannabis black market and the continued struggle by counties to fund county services and programs with under-funded treasuries. So, Ahimsa is asking individuals and organizations to support county and state officials please support your county and state officials in taking action. Contact them and to make it clear that you want to see: the replenishment of county and state treasuries; decisive action regarding SB 420 compliance, a curtailing of the thriving cannabis black market; a redirection of medical cannabis sales revenue from the black market to county treasuries; a decisive, and profitable, blow in the war on drugs; and creative and decisive leadership, that will establish California as a leader among the states. You want the implementation of the Medical Cannabis Safety Program.Other unique programs developed by Ahimsa include: the Social Crisis Zones Research Study, a 5-year, diagnostic examination of the devastation experienced in America’s inner cities, and the Terra Vista Youth Leadership Center, an alternative to incarceration of violent juvenile offenders. Also awaiting funding is the Altruistic Heroes Program, a student-created web site museum allowing at-risk youth to interact with 2000 historical heroes.Complete Title for Press Release: Ahimsa International submits ingenious proposal for statewide Medical Cannabis Safety Program to generate billions in revenue for California counties, reduce the state budget deficit, regulate the cultivation and dispensation of medical cannabis, minimize patient reliance on the black market, and fund unique programs for at-risk, drug-addicted and delinquent youth. Totally Bogus Statistic!
"According to conservative estimates, by the DEA, the illicit cannabis industry in the U.S. grosses over 1 quadrillion dollars annually."This is yet another Marijuana Hyperbole from DEA that or a very serious typo. 1 Quadrillion is orders of magnitude greater the entire US Gross Domestic Product which according to the Web link below is $10.082 Trillion (that's $35,935.02 per capita!) This is but a tiny drop in the $1 Quad. bucket! One could employ the combined intellect of all DEA agents the world over for a solid year and not come close to counting that high. IMHO

Medical Marijuana Regulation... Sense or Lack of!
Aloha to the AHIMSA group and kudos to their attempt to add sense and professionalism to an industry waiting in the wings. We in Hawaii are the only state which doesn't tacitly recognize the right to get your medicine from an authorized dispensary, yet 1,200 plus patients get it somehow from the black market. Even seeds and clones are NOT legally available. Our authorized distribution bills at the legislature were killed again in House and Senate. So that leaves only one legal source here. Relion of Jesus Church/East Hawaii Branch has the court decision and Prosecutor's agreement regarding their religious use for healing. The adventure continues. See www.sacramedcine.com

thanks AB and Shish
in a country where captial is the founding block.
with job losses at a record setting levels.
with more and more of us with out health care.
how could a product that has been bought and sold my millions not be taxed.
how has this been allowed to happen.today on c-span Congress man Fred Upton was sayen that the govt will be increasing the fines for bad conduct showing sexual parts and other matters that are-- deemed unfit.
A caller said that he was worred about censorship as last month the gov't had passed a law that banned all adds on metro lines mentioning med use of marijuana. and could that be used in tv adds and radio ad being labeled as unfit.
the Congressman said that was only in DC and just a small hearing. How can we explain the fact that we are slowly loosing our rights to even put a different side of a issue up for public discussion with out some net work wondering if they will be hit with this half a million in fines. and Congress man Upton said that they added three striks and your out of business.Just befor Mr Upton was on Bill Bennett was on promoting his new radio show. it struck me as odd that this person that has written much about the Bible left my ears ringing when he said that we must go after them cause they have killed us and we must kill them. What in the world does a person like Mr Bennett feel that Jesus did for the people.
A eye for a eye and every one will be blind. What force is holding back honest debate in this country.
