It was more than just another day on the job for the Clark County Sheriff’s Department.
Today marked the beginning of a week long drug removal project. Clark County sheriff’s deputies in cooperation with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the National Guard cut down hundreds of thousands of marijuana plants in Clark County each year. Today, in one spot alone, the officers cut down 250,000-300,000 plants. “This used to be a hemp factory back during World War II,” said Deputy R. Becker, eradication officer. This year, officers noticed the continous removal efforts are paying off. “We hit a spot today that normally every year had marijuana in it, and this year it didn’t have any. That means we are getting ahead of it a little bit,” said Becker. The plants are disposed of after they are cut down.
