Moncton, N.B. — The New Brunswick drug trial of a marijuana legalization advocate has gone up in smoke.Marc Emery, publisher of Cannabis Culture magazine and head of the B.C. Marijuana Party, was to stand trial Thursday in a Moncton courtroom on a possession charge laid after a public toking stunt in the city last July.
But Mr. Emery has since been informed the Crown will not proceed with its case against him and he is instead in western Canada planning his next trip across Canada.Mr. Emery's cancelled court date stemmed from his actions during a stop on his cross-Canada “Summer of Legalization” tour.He was arrested last July 21, outside Moncton RCMP headquarters, for possession of a controlled substance after he started to use a huge cylindrical bong. The stunt followed a 20-minute address to a crowd of mostly like-minded supporters about the need to make marijuana use legal in Canada.Mr. Emery's case is among several in the province where charges are being withdrawn by the Crown.Outstanding marijuana possession charges dating from July 31, 2001 to Oct. 7, 2003 are being stayed by the province, which means prosecution has been postponed indefinitely in those matters. Actually....
All I was trying to point out is that most Canadians I knew were aware from one source or another that it was legal for that period...all of our news broadcasts on T.V., etc. followed it quite regularly. Even my parents knew, lol.
The reason I single out American press is simply because I think they are generally the worst of a world-wide problem.

Canada is a very cool place
I went to vancouver with a buddy and we baked the hotel room every night. One night right after we smoked the whole room up (it was a non-smoking room) we heard a knock on the door. "who is it" I asked"the hotel manager" was the replyPanic rose up my spine like first rising vibes of an acid frenzy (totally stolen from fear and loathing)We had clogged up the toilet and it was leaking into the room below us , they came in and made no mention of the overwhelming cannabis smoke in the room. So to sum up Canada is a very cool place. And to sum up again I don't smoke pot at all in the US only when visiting foriegn lands.

Are you serious? The Canadian press isn't 'hiding' stuff? They hid the fact that cannabis was legal for over two months and they still won't acknowledge that! Just a minor omission from the news I guess.

So what you are trying to say is since the American media is so incredibly biased, and spews a load of propaganda, it is ok for the Canadian media to spew a lesser amount of propaganda? No. You are wrong. The coverage has been horrible. On May 16, 2003 there was the Rogin decision which was a prescedent proving cannabis's legality. Next day I look in the Toronto Star and there is this tiny little caption which talks about the court case. There had been many other articles before and after that date, NONE of which directly said CANNABIS IS LEGAL. That is unacceptable. It's like they don't do any reporting on the subject of cannabis and its prohibition. They don't ask the questions that need to be asked.

Canadian Press?
Actually, being a Canadian, most of the Canadian press on the issue has actually been good. There is a general consensus here that marijuana isnt a serious problem, and nobody seems to be getting the feeling of the press 'hiding' stuff from us. I'm not, atleast. If you want to point fingers at the press maybe you should take a look at CNN, FOX News, or The New York Times...

Bad Reporting
Of course the Canadian Press failed to report that in the formention time "dating from July 31, 2001 to Oct. 7, 2003" cannabis possession was legal and that is why the case won't go ahead. This bad reporting is the reason why no body knew it was legal for those two years, and why people continued to be charged under a non existant law.
