Cannabis Cafe Rolls Out Challenge

The cafe will allow members to use cannabis
Source: BBC News
Campaigners have vowed to break the law by opening a cannabis cafe in Scotland when the drug is reclassified. The Scottish Cannabis Coffeeshop Movement said the Purple Haze Cafe in Edinburgh would allow use of the drug when it is downgraded next Thursday. The reclassification means police in England and Wales will rarely arrest people for possession of small amounts. However, the Scottish Executive has made it clear there will be no change in practice in Scotland.
Paul Stewart, owner of the Purple Haze, is set to test that position and has said he will invite members of his café to bring their own cannabis and smoke it on the premises. We want to build a network of cannabis tolerant zones across Scotland beginning with the Purple Haze Café - Kevin Williamson, SSP drugs SpokesmanMr Stewart said: "We're not glamorising drug use, or advocating drug use. "All we're saying is people are going to use cannabis, we have to accept that, and if they are we're trying to give them advice and information so that they can use it in the safest possible way. "If I have to be criminalised for that then that's up to the police." But the Deputy Chief Constable of Lothian and Borders Police, Tom Wood, has warned the force will take action quickly to deal with any breach of the law at the Purple Haze. The move to reclassify the drug will see it downgraded from class B to class C, along with steroids and tranquillisers. Scottish Socialist Party (SSP) drugs spokesman Kevin Williamson said the executive's stance had left the law looking "mangled". He said: "It's one of these laws that's dishonest and hypocritical and like every dishonest and hypocritical law it has to be challenged." He added: "We want to build a network of cannabis tolerant zones across Scotland beginning with the Purple Haze Café and expanding it across the whole of Scotland with the objective of calling on the Scottish Executive, the police forces and the local authorities to create Scottish-wide cannabis tolerant zones until our parliament has the powers to change the law." He said the campaign also aimed to turn the tolerance zones into "cannabis information centres" and monitor arrests for personal possession of cannabis in Scotland. Mr Williamson claimed 500,000 peopled had used cannabis in Scotland as he launched the SCCM during a news conference inside the Scottish Parliament. Mr Stewart said the cafe would be "tobacco free" but anyone wishing to take cannabis could use a vaporiser machine which he said eliminates 99% of the carcinogenic substances in the drug. The Hutchinson / Johnson debate would have been big news. Instead Asa got a raise. You'd better repent before I interview you, Hutch! I may not be able to type, but I am far more eloquent in person, I assure you.http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/10/thread10869.shtml

FOM: You're right, 911 used to kill the debate!
Very astute observation! Remember Tom and Rollie, one week before 911, two cannabists' murdered senselessly, and where was the media, nowhere to be found! But over a hundred FBI agents were there to make it so, as the supposed 'terrorists' went on to kill 2700, (the new, actual number, but hey, its only people, lets round it off to 3000, it rolls of the tougue you know, the better for pundits and newcasters). Bush knew 911 was neccesary to shift the debate (remember Republican Gov. Gary Johnson took it to the national level with interviews on CNN, boy we had momemtum didn't we!It brought us to this point fortunately, as it broke the taboo, but for this election, the taboo is back it seems! Then, within a week of 911, bushes gift from his Saudi buddies, takes the debate off the front burner, and shifts to war, war, war, but not on drugs, but terror, a more fearful word, and it worked wonders! And now, the Afghanis' bumper crop of herion hits the market, just in time for the CIA to take the profits and pay off whoever hasn't been paid off already.911 provided cover to duh! administration, and allows the current predidential candidates to ignore the subject. When Dean said bush knew, his numbers dived. The media you know! But it just won't go away, (the end of prohibition) and keeps rearing its ugly head! Why? Because of websites like C-News, people like FOM, and Marc Emery, because it is the subject of the day, shunned as a matter that only affects the poor, and those who can't afford lawyers. So why bother, it's a class thing!Life in America, a bad soap opera that has run for years, I can't wait til bush pays the piper! And he will, noone escapes karma.bush seems to be losing control over the media, so how long before a 'Paul Wellstone' event takes the life of David Kay, WMD inspector? Will it follow David Kellys 'suicide'? (notice the initials, DK, David Kay, and David Kelly, and Dennis Kucinich, hmnmmmm!)Editorials Question Bush's Role in 'Cooking' Up a War An E&P survey of the top 20 newspapers by circulation found that as of Wednesday, 13 had run editorials on Kay's resignation as chief U.S. weapons inspector in Iraq last Friday, and his statement that no WMDs exist in Iraq, and likely did not exist in Iraq during the U.S. run-up to war.Nearly all of those papers blamed intelligence failures for the miscalculation and called for a full probe. But eight of the 13 -- most of which supported the war -- also raised the issue of White House deceit and its possibly blind pursuit of intelligence that fit its plan for war. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=2077477The Puppet Masters:As the right-wing propaganda machine took increasing control of Bush's public image over the ensuing months and years, we were purposefully indoctrinated with specific words chosen for their impact on our vulnerable minds: strong leader, man of integrity, persevering, compassionate conservative, deeply religious, humble, etc. And as is the goal of propaganda, we began to doubt the perceptions of our own senses. Bush's continual mangling of the language, his refusal to have impromptu or unscripted press conferences, his totally vapid appearance when reading from the teleprompter, like a bad actor reading lines he doesn't fully understand, all were spun into positive attributes or endearing qualities in our Fearless Leader. The completely opaque quality of his administration, where every decision and process is buried under an impenetrable veil of secrecy, was successfully transformed into the image of a "highly disciplined" Commander-in-Chief who runs a "tight ship" and demands loyalty from his team.http://www.astroworld.us/archives/000353.html#000353Seeds of Change:While the waning moon gave way to utter darkness George W. Bush spoke to all of America as to the State of our Nation.I listened to his well read speech, seeing the sheer pleasure his words brought to his associates countenances. Their heads nodding in agreement drooling over their good fortune, hands applauding with wild abandon knowing they’ll reap the same rewards for good or ill that their faux leader brings upon them. He cast down the bloodied gauntlet, smiling, taunting the Democrats, The People, egging us on. I got the image of this great ape beating his breast, boasting of his fabricated successes and I thought how pathetic, he blew off The People.http://www.astroworld.us/archives/000352.htmlWas David Kelly Murdered: 3 Scientist questions results!
(bush outed Valerie Plame, CIA agent, and she could be a target of assasination by any number of people she's spied on, so this is not out of line to question)Hutton Inquiry farce as leading scientists question Kelly Suicide verdict:Sensation as Hutton report publihed as three medical experts question ‘suicide’ of scientist Front-Page article from Tuesday 27th issue of the London Evening Standard No web ref as it was not published on the London Evening Standard website, which is: www.thisislondon.co.uk Was Kelly Murdered? Three medical experts today cast serious doubts over how weapons expert David Kelly is believed to have died. They gave a detailed analysis of the circumstances of his death, raising the possibility that Dr. Kelly did not take his own life but in fact murdered. The specialists also called for a full inquest. The intervention came the day before publication of Lord Hutton’s report into Dr Kelly’s death. The UN weapons inspector was found near his Oxfordshire home last July. He had been named as the source of a BBC report claiming the Government “sexed up” a dossier on the threat from Iraq. It was believed that he killed himself after becoming embroiled in a furious row between the Government and the BBC over the reasons for going to war against Saddam Hussain. A pathologist told the Hutton Inquiry that he thought Dr Kelly had bled to death from a self-inflicted wound on his left wrist, with a drugs overdose listed as a possible contributing factor. But consultant surgeon David Halpin, speaking on behalf of a group of specialists, said today they believe it “improbable” that he could have bled to death from such a cut. They said he would have had to have lost five pints of blood to have died that way. But from the cut found on his wrist he was unlikely to have lost more than a pint. The ambulance crew at the scene reported minimal loss of blood. Mr Halpin and his colleagues also said the level of the painkiller Co-proxamol found in his system was far from enough to have killed him. http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2004/01/284529.htmlbush and blair are murderous, out-of-control thugs, arrest these men NOW! (can we just do a citizens arrest March 20th when we march on Washington? Please!)It seems as if the FBI knew 911 would provide cover and distraction from the deaths at Rainbow Farm of Tom and Rollie, as they knew from the beginning they would get a pass from the media, LEO's, and the brain dead sheeple known as 'Americans'. Of course, C-News readers are the rare exception. Sorry but i'm disgusted with what we've 'allowed' this country to become, but am still filled with hope that we will wake up before its too late.As the above article states accurately, bush will get even more power, or be taken from power, but it is OUR decision, not his to make, as the 'will of the people' is an axiom delivered from our ancient ancestors for all time, no exceptions!

What Breeze said caught my eye
*Many people I know are having to work two and three jobs just to get by. They rarely have time to sleep, and therefore, we are living in a nation full of zombies.*A nation of zombies? More like a nation of eagles who've been battered by circumstances they can't control and tricked into thinking they're sheep.Years ago, in the early 1990's, there were commercials on The Tube hawking cold medicines. Those actors who were playing working stiffs could be seen visibly suffering from their viral maladies, but had to go to work, anyway. Because, as the voice over representing said working stiff put it menacingly, "I'll lose my job" or words to that effect. One commercial showed this young woman, clearly down with something, walking along listlessly with a classic 'thousand yard stare' of someone who's on her last legs, energy wise. When she sat down on the bus seat, the camera closed in and you could just feel the absolute drag of her illness. But of course, there's the threat of unemployment and subsequent starvation to spur her sick, worn out body along.None of this is accidental. During the 1970's, when the economic malaise of the fallout from Viet Nam was taking it's toll, many business people saw their chance to politicize, and did so. They made all manner of claims that if the hand of government regulation were removed from their shoulders, the country would flourish. "Trickle-down economics" it was called. With Reagan, they got their way...and something has been trickling down upon the American worker ever since. But it doesn't smell like rain to me. Wouldn't you like to have a month off for vacation? Many Europeans do. They can also expect to have their jobs stick around a long time, too. Many Euros snicker up their sleeve at the two-weeks that most Americans are lucky to get at all. They can't believe we're so dumb that we let this happen to ourselves. Americans work longer and harder than most other citizens of industrial nations do. They lack universal healthcare, forcing many into bankruptcy when their funds run out after a catastrophic illness strikes. Those businesses which promised to create jobs in America, and were given tax breaks (putting the burden of local maintenence on the local taxpayers who were supposed to get those jobs) are sending those jobs to places where cheap labor is kept so by union (and sometimes, head-)busting. The Middle Class is shrinking, and more join the rolls of the (shhhhhh! don't say it too loudly!) permanently unemployed. I could go on, but you get the idea: keep the worker drones scared, remove any long term economic security from them by removing their jobs to foreign countries, make them afraid that their next paycheck could be their last, keep them off-balance, make them subject to economic and social strains, cause them to view foreigners as threats to their livelihood...thus, 'softening them up'.Any of this look familiar? It ought to if you read any history; you could say that America is being 'softened up' in the same way Weimar Republic Germany was 'softened up' in time to receive Hitler. Whose biggest supporters weren't the herded masses, but the boys in the corporate boardrooms. And who's Herr Busch's best friends?

new hempshire primary
While I had high hopes for DK, he doesn't seem to be the one. I will vote for him just the same, to send the message that his policies should not be ignored. But he only got something around 2000 votes when I last checked. 1% was the total.
Thats not a lot, but I said it before, and I can say it again. WE need to pounce on Kerry- tell him the deal with Cannabis, open the doors that need be to lead him to realization. We have almost nine months to do this, humans are created in this same amount of time.
Tell him the benefits of legalization, medication, etc.
Ask DK to tell him the benefits of such, and so forth, if DK drops out later on. BUT we have to do this. Not one political figure seems to think or speak without a team of advisors, and this is mirrored by what the press corp/media does.I don't mean get him to confront the issue, but rather mail to him the plain facts. And don't cease! Never give up, just keep knocking the door- sooner or later, the leaders have to wake up.Most people are looking to get GWB out of office, and their ignoring the issues, they are just looking for the candidate to get GWB out, and that is it. They are looking at the candidate that is middle of the road- someone EVERYONE will vote for- just to get GWB out- period. While we are looking for a candidate that will have common sense, the dems are looking for a candidate that will overwhelmingly win the election, without slim margin. While many know the last election was stolen, few realize that GWB's brother is the powerhouse in the state where the recount occured. Blood is thicker than hanging chads, and it was proven that nothing was going to stop this man from taking the WH.Instead of votes being as they should- vote for vote, the districts are the deciding phase of the win. While Kerry or whoever may have more total votes, Bush still could win by manner of districts- the more districts that are pro-Bush, overpower the number of of total votes. Plus there is the issue of electronic votes being used this time- which opens an even more complicated issue of votes being manipulated. It would be very interesting if the majority voted GWB out of office, but he still won and this became known to the general public by means of those precious polls. The public does not know many things about current events- such as no weapons of mass destruction were found, nor were they even really truly thought to exist in the first place, this was a conspiracy theory, now it is confirmed. There are other theories, but they deserve their own place. WE are the ones who must confront the future leaders and their policies before they get behind the veils of the white house. And it must be done now, while they are willing to talk to people on common ground- even now its not easy to get them to do so. So, you have to see them for what they are- arrogant, conceited, power hungry politicians- they want your vote. Make them see the truth, plan a march around the same time they are going to be in your home town, or write them emails, letters, whatever you have to do.Yes- cannabis is attacked on every level right now, its called fear. Tonight, Peggy Bundy- attacked her own child for doing something "stupid and illegal"- she should of said it is stupid that it is illegal, and have been shown to be grateful that her child did not come through her emergency room with alcohol poisoning, or choking on her on vomit, or dehydrated because of dry heaves. Instead, ABC is giving some one up stairs a big heave ho as far as cannabis consumption. The gov has not realized that groups like norml, are actually trying to save lives and reduce violence by our support for legalization. We aren't trying to do so just for our own personal desires, but to keep our kids from having access to truly harmful illegal substances. They haven't realized that their are some truly unscrupulous people out there who would just love to have kids hooked on expensive and potentionally deadly substances. Take for instance the pro basketball player who had a heart attack while using cocaine. The many musicians who have OD'd on heroin. They use these "examples" to keep the WOD going- and when they link these drugs to a simple herb, they are wrong, but they don't see it that way. They get money from the liquor companies, perks from the pharmaceutical companies, and huge donations from the tobbaco industry. They "believe" obviously that by legalizing cannabis, they would not not get anything for it other than more people making a profit without taxation. As the economy worsens, and it will because of GWB, there will certainly be more people selling cannabis and even more expensive substances to pay the bills, legal cannabis or not. This could be avoided, but it has to be done NOW, not ten years from now. It has to be done to avoid a financial and social catastrophe. Many people I know are having to work two and three jobs just to get by. They rarely have time to sleep, and therefore, we are living in a nation full of zombies. Given enough time, speed will become the drug of choice, simply because it keeps people awake. I knew a truck driver who did this, and believe me, the interstates were no safer because of his addiction/usage of speed. Thus, the reasoning behind the latest out break of meth labs in many small towns. Its cheap to make, profits are huge and there is a definite market for it. Simple law of supply and demand. And it all stacks up to the economy and the failed WOD.

I'm watching this whole thing with interest this time. I won't look into the pasts of those who are running because I don't like digging up what was but I like to think about what might be. We stand a chance to make progress with our issue. I believe that or I would just say nothing. I think Soros will be helping Kerry and the media will sure let us know if he does. It takes money to do this whole election thing. Money is usually corrupt. I remembered Mother Teresa was asked if she knew that one of her contributors had a shady background. She said I don't care if the devil himself gives me the money to get the job done. She then said she would consider it a gift from God. They didn't ask her again.

An interesting angle
I of course will vote for DK. There is one aspect that I am studying on the Dean and Kerry matchup. Dean and Kerry are considered the liberals along with DK of course.I am interested in a triangulation concerning media and money as it effects these two liberals, whatever makes a liberal. It has to do with the universal health care that Dean supports and Kerry does not. The number I read says that 60% of Americans support it, but who knows about numbers. It is just an interesting study of the media as we say what happened when Clinton tried to change health care. Donations from the pill companies will be something to watch. It is a study of how media and the insurance, pill, and health care industry oppose universal health care. Health care and the economy are the two things ahead of Iraq in Iowa. People want universal health care and the big money does not. What is funny to me is that they are not even talking about voter turnout of 220,000. Turnout next week might also beat back the big thing in the media about electability. I myself am convinced that the next President will be Democratic. I mean if the few hundred absentee ballots that were dated after the election were not illegally counted in Florida, Bush would not be in office now.He did not win the last election. He went on to be a war criminal and the worst president ever and even people that voted for him last time cannot wait to vote him out. I claim relevance because of media. The media is out there shaping things and they can talk about health care but they talk about electability. They are controlling the debate. I am not really trying to talk politics. I am trying to talk media and big money and plutocracy. I will not mention this again as it is the only angle I see that sheds light on the cannabis situation.I am not a Democrat anyway. I am an Extremist.

Democrats
It's interesting, the Democratic voters seem to be realizing that Dean is too Northern, too "liberal" to win. I was hoping they'd go for Clark, but I think they see Kerry's military experience as being sufficient to beat Bush.Kerry is such a sell-out though, I know he won't support any drug policy reform and I wouldn't trust him to do anything for military personnel either.Definitely a career drug-war hawk.

I've been watching the news very closely today. I think we might be able to reform the laws on Cannabis with Kerry but I don't think so if Dean would get the nomination. I know some people don't like Kerry but I do. My husband is a Vietnam Vet and did two tours but came home to being shunned by society. My husband wasn't for the war but he did what he had to do. That was hard and I appreciate Kerry and hope he wins. I hope to see Veterans cared for better if Kerry becomes our next president.http://www.granitestaters.com/guide/kerry.html

8 Simple Rules
The show is on ABC. The boy on the show steals a drug dog from the police. The youngest daugter is going out the door and finds a baggie of Miracle Plant on here and the first segment ends with the mom having the baggie in her hand. The daughter gets a talking to and ask her mom if she did it when she was young. She says it was stupid and illegal then too. Cary, the youngest daughter, says there is nothing to it. The mom says you do not work in an emergency room like I do.Cary never smoked it and it had been in her back pack since she got it from the debate team. She tells her boyfriend that has a fit and says his brother is screwed up over pot and Cary says she did not smoke it. The guy is a real prude and says when you make your mind up over it, let me know and then I will let you know.Totally prohibitionistic to say the least. The silence philosphy served the prohibitionists well until the Internet. Now they are being flushed out into outright stupidity. We are winning.

Test of tinyURL.com.
This is a test of this website that turns long URL's like this http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=202393 into this- http://tinyurl.com/2h728You can go to http://tinyurl.com/create.php and paste in a long URL. It will generate a short URL like above and make it available for immediate pasting. This is mainly a test of that free service.I did a BS that said "People that love, love Kucinich" This relates to the messenger principle that says this. So far DK has not been seen enough to be known, but there exist something unusual about DK supporters. There are many that actually love him. What this means to cannabis is that they are like the 8th grade boy in love with his teacher that hangs on her every word. If DK would speak on cannabis policy with NORML it would be readily digested by people that await his every word.

Another mile marker
Mr Stewart said the cafe would be "tobacco free" but anyone wishing to take cannabis could use a vaporiser machine which he said eliminates 99% of the carcinogenic substances in the drug. I regard it as a big deal that the subject of vaporizers comes up. These people have done wonderful service for the cause by taking such steps. There are heroin injection sites across Europe and there should be vaporization sites in the UK so that people might be assured of safe delivery. You know they should also take to providing a safe product that is not laced by the black market profiteers and polluted all the way up to soapbar. They should regulate it as a matter of harm reduction under a health approach instead of a criminal justice approach.I thought these words were extremely well chosen also- "All we're saying is people are going to use cannabis, we have to accept that, and if they are we're trying to give them advice and information so that they can use it in the safest possible way.
