Manchester, NH - January 19 - Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana (GSMM) has announced that it will air a dramatic political spot highlighting four Democratic presidential contenders' refusal to stop federal arrests of cancer and AIDS patients who use medical marijuana. The ad will begin airing on New Hampshire stations tomorrow. The commercial features stark, grainy images of U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), U.S. Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-MO), U.S. Sen. John Edwards (D-NC), and former Gov. Howard Dean (D-VT), while a narrator states, "There was a time when the federal government was arresting very sick people.
And some Democrats running for president refused to say they would stop it. Cancer patients. AIDS patients. Following state medical marijuana laws, just trying to relieve their pain -- were being arrested."The commercial, produced and paid for by the Marijuana Policy Project Political Fund, will air on the Adelphia Cable system and can be viewed on-line at: http://www.mpp.org/NHcommercial The state's other major provider, Comcast Cable, prohibited GSMM in December from purchasing airtime on the company's system in New Hampshire.Throughout GSMM's campaign, patients and activists have followed the candidates, asking each for a promise to end the Bush administration's policy of raiding and arresting medical marijuana patients and providers. The four candidates featured in the spot -- Dean, Edwards, Gephardt, and Lieberman -- are the only Democratic presidential contenders who have consistently refused to pledge to end the raids."This commercial is part of an all-out effort that will continue through primary day," said GSMM Campaign Coordinator Aaron Houston. "Every New Hampshire voter should walk into the polling place informed about which candidates would continue raiding sick and dying medical marijuana patients and their caregivers."An August 2003 poll by Zogby International found that 84% of likely New Hampshire Democratic primary voters support legal access to medical marijuana for seriously ill patients. The poll also showed that presidential candidates who support medical marijuana are likely to gain support among likely primary voters.Complete Title: New Ad Highlights Presidential Candidates' Medical Marijuana Positions Contact: Granite Staters for Medical Marijuana -- http://www.GraniteStaters.com/Bruce Mirken: 415-668-6403Aaron Houston Granite: 603-669-2962Source: Common Dreams (ME)Published: January 19, 2004Copyright: 2004 Common DreamsContact: editor commondreams.org Website: http://www.commondreams.org/Marijuana Policy Projecthttp://www.mpp.org/CannabisNews Medical Marijuana Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/medical.shtml

In addition to his MoveOn donations, Lewis gave at least $340,000 to the Marijuana Policy Project Political Fund, according to an FEC report the Washington, D.C., group filed. FOX will always be a rightwing "news" org...
As long as Roger Ailes is overseeing it. Even with his replacement I wouldn't hold ones breath...Their definition of fair and balanced is to redefine where the center is.

Hope
We must hope. If states can't make up their own minds about issues like Cannabis then why do we even have states?

FoM Dare we hope?
Fox has been such a Republican news organ.Either they're swearing off being the Republican news organ, or the Republicans are being won over by Montel Williams.

FoxNews Video - Medical Marijuana
Medical Marijuana Prosecution Confusion
 Monday, January 19, 2004
Marijuana for medical use is legal under state law in nine states, but federal law says that the drug is not legal under any circumstance and this is causing enforcement to butt heads and leaving ailing people in pain.

Kidney cancer, diabetes and lung disease are among the ailments that give Don Nord, 57, constant pain. He's on 15 different medications but one he can no longer take because it was taken from him. Nord is one of around 300 Coloradoans who have a state medical marijuana registry card, allowing use of the drug to ease pain from debilitating conditions. "Right now it helps me relax," said Nord. "It helps me deal with the pain." But when a task force from the DEA raided his home in October 2003 he said they told him his card didn't mean anything to them and confiscated his pot and pipes. Many times federal judges don't know what to do in this confusing situation but in late 2003 the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled medical marijuana patients are protected from federal prosecution as long as they grow their own, get it for free and don't sell it. "Basically, there's a conflict of laws here," said Denver University law professor Trish Bangert. "He's the one who's a criminal under federal law and completely innocent under state law." Good News from Michele Kubby - Motion Granted!
Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 Good news. Our motion to proceed under English Common Law, without costs, fees or complicated motions was granted today in Federal Court in Vancouver. Richard Cowan was there to confirm this historic event. A big thanks to Ed Pearson for guiding us through this amazing legal breakthrough!More to follow in a few days, once we've had a chance to obtain and read the court's order.

The Kucinich-Edwards deal
There is a thread at DU whose subject is the 9.17MB video from MSNBC covering the deal- http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=109&topic_id=4417

It is a deal and he just playing cards
I really do not quite understand the tabulation of caucuses. For someone to even be recognized they have to have 15% of the caucus on their side. Then people have to stand up and declare their choice and can give explanation. If Kucinich does not have 15% in a given caucus, it helps make sure that the cannabis-hating Edwards gets heard. I do not know if the deal will work both ways. Nobody expects Kucinich to win in Iowa. He does need to make sure that Gephart does not win. DK did not concede anything, he is just playing cards.

I hope Democrats don't blow it.
Democrats should not support caging humans for using a plant.(& what's happening in Iowa?)Historically, government subsidized cannabis prohibitionists as a whole are misinformed, relying on what is false to perpetuate terrorizing citizens for using a plant, which God gave and said was good on literally the first page of the Bible.I would like all Democrats (& Repubs. tooo, but Bush isn't going to be letting up on the sin business) especilly, to stop supporting this sin.420In case You haven't heard: Democratic Presidential nominee, Dennis Kucinich, put in writing that as PRESIDENT He WILL:
"DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA" -"in favor of a drug policy that sets reasonable boundaries for marijuana use by establishing guidelines similar to those already in place for alcohol." (POSTED ON His website!) http://www.kucinich.us/issues/marijuana_decrim.php

Chasing Freedom
Tonight Court TV is airing a movie about an Afghan woman refugee in America. Here is part of the NYT review:http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/19/arts/television/19STAN.html?8hpib" Libby's grudging first steps on the case are juxtaposed with flashbacks of Meena's desperate moves to evade the Taliban. A university student until the Taliban took power, Meena starts an underground school for girls in her home, and when found out, she is jailed and beaten by Islamic fundamentalist police officers."This story made me cry, because I realized very sadly that Meena's experience has a parallel with ours, having the police raid our cannabis clubs and jailing our leaders. Not beating them physically but subjecting them to conditions of incarceration that could kill many of them. And we even have our own refugees.Someone should make a Court TV movie about our refugee plight.

NORML's 2004 Presidential Candidate Report Card
NORML presents analysis of Democratic presidential candidates' positions on marijuana policy. Here we indicate their support for decriminalizing marijuana penalties, legalizing medical marijuana and repealing the HEA provision that prevents convicted marijuana offenders from receiving student aid. Live Free or Die
Kucinich is the only candidate that uses a people's definition of freedom. Did Cheryl Miller ever say, "Live Free or Die?" RIP, Cheryl Miller.Victory in Kucinich is to see Gephart drop out. Victory in NH is to see Lieberman see the writing on the wall.

Maybe I Missed It
I hope someone checks Fox News but I keep turning to other channels to avoid all the politics. Time for me to mute the tv and turn on music I guess.
