  States and Marijuana

In its medical-marijuana ruling earlier this week, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has endorsed compassion and states' rights — ideas worth considering together. It was surely compassionate to rule in favor of Angel Raich, who suffers from an inoperable brain tumor, and Diane Monson, who suffers from degenerative spine disease. It is a matter of simple humanity to accommodate such sufferers, and California law did that. So does Washington's, passed by initiative with 59 percent of the vote.
Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that federal drug laws have no exception for medical need — that is, there is no individual right to obtain medical marijuana. Now comes this case, which says the federal drug law interferes with states' rights. The line between the federal government and the states is in the Constitution, which grants federal authority over interstate commerce. But what is interstate? What is commerce? These words are open to interpretation, and between the New Deal and the Clinton era, courts were quick to label things as interstate commerce. The classic case was in 1942, when the Supreme Court said a farmer might affect interstate commerce by growing grain for his own chickens, and therefore could be regulated. In 1995, the Court's "federalist" conservatives began to limit this federal power. It struck down a law banning possession of a gun within 1,000 feet of a school and, in 2000, a rape law. Gun possession and rape were not commerce, the court said. Let the states handle them. Now the same doctrine supports medical marijuana. The 9th Circuit (rejecting one member who wanted to apply the chicken case to medical marijuana) is saying to the justices: Apply your federalist logic to this. They should. States' rights are in the Constitution and, within the bounds of reason and individual rights, should be observed. And as a practical matter, there is no reason for a federal interference in medical marijuana. To citizens with degenerative and terminal diseases, the federal government has been bullying and unreasonable. It also bullies the states, whose policies are more reasonable and humane. If the court will not back up the individuals, let it back up the states. I'm glad you got an idea for another gift for your wife. That's interesting about your wife living in a commune 10 years after the movie was made. The spirit of that time is alive and well just not as visible anymore. The way people thought about that time was so free and special.

49, but thanks for the compliment!
Now I know what else to get my wife for Christmas, she is a movie buff like yourself! And when you watch Easy Rider, that was filmed here, my wife lived on the commune in the movie! (10 years later). It is now a bed and breakfast and the former owners just moved to Canada to experience a freer existence! If they're reading this: Hello, How's Canada? send us an email! After the movie came out, Dennis Hopper bought alot of property here, and even picked my wife up in her hitch-hiking days! It was safe to do back then! Now you know why I'm such a 60's buff! Hippie History lives on here, and the natives of the Pueblo, the hispanic/mexican culture, and the hippie/yippie populations all get along, exception here and there, but nothing like the old days in Easy Rider. Cannabis is the connection for all three communities, it is truly the healer of nations, especially if it can heal the riffs that formerly existed here!Note:
Cheney has been suckered by Rumsfeld and is buying his properties, (we chased out Rumy, but now we get Dick)!See ya Donald, it hasn't been nice knowin' ya.It should be even easier to have Dick Cheney get out rallies now though, last year we had 3500 march on Rumsfelds! Do i hear 10,000 for Cheneys housewarming?

Thank you! I appreciate what you said. DVD players can be bought for $50. We also got WoodStock (The Directors Cut) We also bought Neil Young's Silver and Gold and 2 movies Saving Grace and Easy Rider. We are watching Woodstock now. This is almost 4 hours long. We bought our DVD when Greendale was released and had a Neil Young Solo called Live at Vicar Street in Dublin, Ireland. It was only around $15 for both! We thought it would be nice to add a few concerts and movies for Christmas since we just got our player a few months ago. I spent time deciding what would be the most interesting for us and what we've seen so far has been good. I wasn't sure how old you are. You are either 25 or 49 but if your Mom is 83 I think the last age would be right! LOL!

Thanks FOM, I will now have to get a DVD....
player for this one! You know George was a Picses, but did you know his moon was in Scorpio, thus, the dark, brooding, man of mystery and spirituality. And integrity! The 'quiet Beatle'.I'd have to say my world view and spiritual views have been shaped, influenced, inspired, and guided by George Harrisons spiritual journeys. John Lennon was second in influence for me, but it has always been a close call, as my political approach to the world situation is closer to Johns political activism. So there you have it, the early influences of the Beatles on me have been one of the biggest blessings in my life, (my parents share John and Pauls birthdates, and I always felt like the 'Ringo' of the family, born a week before me, but a few years apart, so I took up the drooms).George was always so 'mythological' in respect to playing the guitar, I always thought no way! So a friend told me I would never be able to play 'lead' guitar, so of course, I did! (the rebel!)Two of my friends who both recently passed, within a year, at the ages of 40 and 45, were born on your sons B-day, (they both played guitar like Jimi Hendrix (a Sag) and drove yellow Cadillacs!)Based on that, I don't think your son planned on being here very long, he did what he came here for, and got a pass back to heaven! We are always re-united with our loved ones, whether on Earth or in Heaven. Nice!I know soooo many December Nineteeners, I'm sure your son and I would've made great friends, especially with a mom like you FOM! (I've still got mine, 83, and she's a jewel!)Hats off to all the Moms of the world, none of us would be here without them!I did a chart for your son, without place and time, but for the day, and he was born with Jupiter in Cancer, the best place for Jupiters blessings to be expressed in ones personality and life choices. He was born in 66 I believe, 12 years before me, so I have Jupiter in Cancer too! What does that mean? It means our mothers are a source of great happiness for both of us! (Jupiter is the planet of luck and happiness, and Santa Claus!) And we are very lucky, thus my taking huge risks, and counting on my guardian angels! Because I can! As your son did.Jupiter in the sign of 'mother' Cancer, gave your son alot of your qualities as well, and if born before noon, would have a compassionate Picses moon (George H: Picses sun), and if in the afternoon an Aries moon, (big hearted, couldn't say no, impulsive). Your son and I share other exact planetary aspects as well, I thought that was cool, no wonder you seem to understand me better than most!Back to Jupiter, in the sign of 'mom' indicates that you made him very happy, but that for both of us, we would be separated from our moms by something eventually, (distance for me, 32 years! Can't live in Indiana! State of the art Police state).(We visit each other alot though, I can't get through the year without seeing her!) Your sons passing created your 'distance', and I guarantee you made your son happy in his short life! The stars insist!

ekim more on the story about the seized ship
ekim,This is a snipped source so here is the article and link. I wonder if they would mention if they found a ship full of smuggled diamonds?I doubt it. S.D. Ship Makes Big Bust in Persian Gulf

December 20, 2003 The crew of a San Diego-based destroyer captured three suspected al-Qaeda operatives and seized nearly 2 tons of hashish aboard a small trading vessel in the Persian Gulf earlier this week, Navy officials said. The Decatur made the seizure Monday morning, but the U.S. Central Command didn't release information about the incident until yesterday. "This is the first empirical evidence I've seen that conclusively links al-Qaeda with the drug trade," said Bruce Hoffman, a terrorism expert at RAND Corp., a think tank that often does work for the Pentagon. Armed Decatur crew members using small boats intercepted the 40-foot wooden vessel, called a dhow, near the Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the Persian Gulf, and searched it as part of ongoing maritime interdiction operations seeking possible terrorists and smugglers. "This capture is indicative of the need for continuing maritime patrol of the gulf in order to stop the movement of terrorists, drugs and weapons," said Navy Rear Adm. Jim Stavridis, who oversaw the seizure as commander of the Enterprise carrier strike group. Snipped:Complete Article: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/military/20031220-9999_1n20boat.html

It isn't on tv. It's is a two disc DVD. It's a total of 4 hours and 46 minutes. The first dvd is the music and the second one is the music and interviews with Monty Python and Tom Petty, Paul McCartney etc. I love when Ringo sings Photographs and George's son plays with them on stage. He looks exactly like George when he was young. Billy Preston sings My Sweet Lord one of my favorite songs. The beginning is India type music. It reminded me of years ago when I would go to a head shop and you would smell incense sticks and trippy type music was playing in the background. It is class all the way thru and thru. If you have a DVD player I highly recommend this as a christmas gift to someone or yourself. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000CEB4V.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpghttp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000CEB4V/qid=1071934375//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i0_xgl74/002-0787438-2548005?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846

FOM: what channel is the concert for George on?:
I'm sure its not GWB, so it must be a great concert! LOL!As the above article shows, everything is connected to prohibition, and prohibition of cannabis seems to be the hub of all drug propaganda, and related suffering, and is based on the biggest of the big lies.Drug-testing was brought about as a way to make it possible to create a new industry, a bribe of sorts, new employment for non users, lost jobs for users, billions spent, nothing gained, but another ponzi scheme suceeds. But that is changing, everything is changing, it's time to jump in the river, and have faith it will take you where you are meant to go....and that's the hard part. The truth is back in fashion, seems Reagan made it hip to lie, thus the Clinton model worked when rolled out, the bush version took it too far and it has now backfired. Our of fashion. And now the 'truth' version of a leader needs to emerge, it is about marketing ultimately. Look at the new Beatles, The White Strips, A man and a woman, together, (John and Yoko reincarnated) genius only strikes so often, and the 'marketing' has to be just as inteligent. Or nothing happens. Ask Brian Epstein.Back to trends, fashion, and what is hip: Dean is not the truth version of a leader, but only appears to be. (Honest Scorpio sun, but he has a Gemini moon, iffy, back and forth, not steadfast like most Scorps.Dennis Kucinich (used to be noone could pronounce his name, but no more, the biggest hurdle has been overcome "ryhmes with spinach!)" has 4 planets in Scorp, thus gets the 'honest' award ! Carl Rove will do a Gore 'liar' job on Dean, and it may stick because of this. Of course the media will carry out their marching orders.NOt good for the 'anybody but bush' crowd. Change that to Anybody can beat bush! Because it is true, so why not go with the candidate with the most integrity, that believes the way you do. We've been made to believe that the will of the people, what we really want, is unattainable, and we are unqualified to lead, to be a part of the future, and a huge hole in our collective self esteem needs repair. A Cannabis Paradym is neccesary for the planets survival, it is only natural, very doable, and ready for the now.Let's continue to bring it in with all the gusto we can muster, it is up to us, and we basically are at the point where we have no choice! They can only make fun of Dennis, as they have nothing to counter his programs, platforms and vision except name-calling, marginalizing, etc. When it gets down to the details, DJK will stand up to scrutiny, and we know the pendulum swings, it actually seems to have already started headed back the other way with this weeks developments!2004 is going to be a fantastic year! Let's make it so!Blessed be!And thanks FOM for making 2003 and C-News a source of pleasure, happiness, education, inspiration, and connecting.Your effect on the world will be profound, and your son must be so proud of you!

Important issue needs to be faced
Unfortunately it's from Snipsville. Marijuana act clouds antidrug work rules. Cases in Oregon courts examine whether workers can be fired for state-sanctioned use of marijuana as medicine."We are putting the employer in a difficult spot," said Klaus Martin, a McMinnville physician who performs worker-injury evaluations and drug tests for employers. "We're saying here we allow medical marijuana. Then we turn around and say, 'Hey, you have to provide a drug-free environment.' "Much is at stake for employees, too. Medical marijuana advocates argue that without some accommodations, more than 6,000 legal marijuana users in the state won't be able to work. http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/exclude/1071752243221280.xmlLink may require zip code, year of birth, and gender (no choice for "uncertain" - it's Portland, for crissake!).

ekim an article from Reuters
U.S. Seizes Suspected al Qaeda DrugsDecember 19, 2003
DUBAI (Reuters) - A U.S. warship seized two tonnes of hashish from a small dhow near the mouth of the Gulf this week in what was believed to be an al Qaeda smuggling operation, the U.S. Navy says."An initial investigation uncovered clear ties between the smuggling operation and al Qaeda," the Navy said in a statement on Friday.Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network is blamed by Washington for the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. The guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur stopped the 40-foot (12-metre) boat near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday."No shots were fired during the interception mission," Fifth Fleet spokesman Commander James Graybeal told Reuters in Dubai.Graybeal declined to say where exactly the ship was intercepted or where it came from or its destination. "The same route has been used before by al Qaeda," he said.Iran and the Gulf are major transit routes for drugs from Afghanistan, a leading producer of hashish and opium, to markets in Europe and the oil-rich Gulf Arab states. The statement said: "The dhow's 12 crew members were taken into custody and transferred to USS Decatur and Decatur sailors are in control of the dhow.""The smuggling routes are known to be used by al Qaeda and four of the 12 crew members are believed to have links to the organisation."The Navy said a boarding team from the Decatur seized 54 70-pound (32 kg) bags of hashish with a street value of $8 million (4.5 million pounds) to $10 million. The warship was conducting expanded Maritime Interception Operations in and near the Gulf designed to deny use of the seas by "terrorists and smugglers," the Navy said.Once aboard the dhow, Decatur's boarding team found that the boat's crew lacked proper documentation of its nationality or cargo. The statement said the fate of the dhow and its crew would be determined after consultation with legal authorities.Saudi-born Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network enjoys support among some Islamic militants in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Yemen, his ancestral home.http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=426067

Hershey to use alcohol sugar in candybars
The local news said that Hershey would have a 1 carb bar for people cutting back on carbohydrates. They said they would use alcohol sugar. There is a family related to the fructose, glucose, sucrose family of sugars and the methanol, ethenol family of alcohols. There would be a variety of these alcohol sugars and wood sugar would be one of them. Wood sugar can be made from hemp, but maybe more importantly the baby boomers and others are taking their health and diet more seriously. Here is a good DK info thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=7448
There will soon be hemp pancakes. Then there will be ganja soup and enhanced oyster stew.

About Bill O'reilly
I can't believe I actually use to watch him regualarly even though I don't agree with a single thing he says. No one should ever take him seriously and it's not even worth mentioning his name in any debate or reference.
Then in hits me, why did I watch him in the first place, if I don't like him?
Because conservatives rule the media. I watched him because he is the only news analyst that is showed. The only 'liberal' that FoxNews has is that little quiet pip-squeek p ussy Sean Hannity. DON'T BELIEVE THAT BULLCRAP ABOUT LIBERAL BIAS IN THE MEDIA. That is the biggets crock of squat they feed you. Conservatives dictate the news. The BIGGEST CONSERVATIVE OF THEM ALL WAS YOU KNOW WHO.......HARRY ANSLINGER, who pretty much single handedly put the demon in marijuana's image. And by the time the truth came out about cannabis, the pot prohibition business was too currupt to get rid of, which is why it is muther f uc kin 2004!!!!! and marijuana is still a class I narcotic. Conservatives have demonized marijuana and are now too currupt and greedy to fix what they broke. The basic duty of liberals are to protect our nation from conservatives...........VOTE KUCINICH!!!!

FoM - Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!
Thanks to FoM and the staff at cannabisnews.com for another great year of news. The future is now and the changes are in motion. Legality is available medically and religiously to anyone that sees the opportunity for what it really is. We as advocates cannot yet relax as the forces of repression are still in office. The courts can protect us only so far, when a government exhibits malice and contempt for it's citizenry. I offer a prayer of peace and aloha to all who can read this message and hope we as a "family of man" can enter into the "kingdom of God!' Oh, by the way, the next session of our Hawaii Legislature may have the chance to authorize and recognize legal distribution practices in Hawaii next year! I am excited. See HB 1805 and SB 2502 from the 2001 session where they were first introduced. Now the new session will have ample reason to discuss and approve this critical measure. I need all your support.
