White House drug czar John Walters, who accused Canada of "reefer madness" for moving to decriminalize marijuana possession, has rejected an invitation to appear before MPs to put his grievances on the record.Several other Americans also turned down invitations to testify at a Commons committee this week as it concludes public hearings on the decriminalization bill.
Mr. Walters, the White House's director of national drug policy, has been vocal in his opposition to Canada's proposed law, saying most recently that Canada is "the one place in the hemisphere where things are going wrong rapidly."After more than a week of haggling, the committee decided late last week to invite him to appear so he could share the U.S. concerns about the law. So, Johnny won't go on the record
The hypocracy should be apparent to everyone at this point. The refusal to testify (as in, I assume, under oath) raises another question: Does Johnny believe what Johnny spouts? He would have been torn up by the MP's in Canada and he knows it. IMO, if he could defend it - he would have been there. Too bad he didn't accept, but either way, it's a moral victory.

Debate? What debate? Legalize marijuana? Debate?

What do the above have in common? ONDCP ads.from:http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov:80/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=12514108&dopt=AbstractIn vitro and in vivo experiments show that at least two mechanisms may be involved in this cannabinoid action: the direct inhibition of vascular endothelial cell migration and survival as well as the decrease of the expression of proangiogenic factors (vascular endothelial growth factor and angiopoietin-2) and matrix metalloproteinase-2 in the tumors. Inhibition of tumor angiogenesis may allow new strategies for the design of cannabinoid-based antitumoral therapies.

My comment at DU
I just wanted to encourage everyone to advance the news and include my comment at DU to show that the cancer thread is worth spreading. I have read almost every article and almost every comment at http://www.cannabisnews.com/ for over two years now. I am the same Virgil there and I am glad I have a chance to voice opposition to the insanity of cannabis prohibition here at this time.I will leave it at that as my reasons are the same as everyone else’s. I would ask people to read this thread from yesterday talking about how cannabis research has proven that cannabinoids play a part in preventing cancer- http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread17719.shtml It is a miracle plant for goodness sake and is unjustly and cruelly painted as some demon weed by those that are supposed to serve us instead of subjugate us as well as the better way. Please read this thread and note that Dr. Russo is an author and respected authority that regularly comments at cannabisnews and is employed now by GW Pharmaceuticals that will be introducing cannabis extracts to the UK probably next month with the EU acceptance expected in 6 months and Canada and Australia in one year.If you follow the cannabis saga you would know that the lie is just considered a tool to the politician. Cannabis Prohibition is a hoax defended by lies, bullshit, and obfuscation. I have said it so much at Cnews, I reduced it to LB&O for short. The big thing to note is that the WOD was eliminated from any debate in the last presidential cycle by agreement of both parties. I hope everyone will not let that happen again this time.I will give credit to Richard Cowan, the past director of NORML that now resides in Canada, for saying this athttp://www.marijuananews.com/news.php3?sid=716 - “Cannabis prohibition is a counterproductive fraud, but then, so are the appalling people who govern us.”

We must have silence
"Hello silence, my old friend" or "Hello darkness my old friend"- One is sung by Walters and one by Simon and Arty. Silence is no friend any more because the opposition will carry on the conversation without Walter's LB&O.There is a thread at DU (Democratic Underground) today that ask- Should marijuana be decriminalized?- There are 31 responses and only one for not doing so with most of the rest saying it should be legalized. The issue just does not have support of the people and the next polls are going to have even more alarming numbers that the government is deaf to the outcries for reform and we are talking of ending a known and acknowledged tragedy.I thought the thread yesterday on cannabis for cancer would have been a good thread for all of us to advance on our other messageboards. I still do and that is why I include the link now- http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread17719.shtml This will be what I put up at DU in the aforementioned thread and also say that the WOD was not debated in the last presidential cycle by agreement of both parties because it would only make both parties look bad. Comment30 at at the DU thread has links to two videos that I will not watch because I no longer have broadband. ------------------------------------Have a look at the online documentary realvideo (Dutch subtitles, English spoken)'War on drugs' part 1, the winners

He's a coward, but no fool
Johnny Pee shows his yellow streak. Right down his back. (Do I have to make the obvious connection? Do I?) But as a tactician, he's being very cagey. He knows he wouldn't be singing before other members of the choir, but heretics sharpening their doctrinal knives. He knows that some very pointed questions, delivered without unctuous 'resepct' for his lofty position, could skewer the entire anti premise for maintaining prohibition within minutes. And all done publicly. Both the Canadian fence sitters and the American public would get a good view of the REAL Johnny Pee, shorn of neat, predigested soundbites.Johnny-me-lad, you backed away from Rob Kampia's very generous acceptence to debate you, preferring to hide behind a woman's skirts (Dr. Andrea Barthwell) instead. Now you run from a chance to properly defend your position before a legislative body that can't possible do anything to you...except laugh at your lies and hysteria."The wicked flee when no man pursueth." Johnny Pee has done an awful lot of that lately...
