Sir,I am amazed that you call yourself a representative of the people of the United States in any manner. I have been reading your comments and I am sickened by the way you manipulate and twist issues that are before you.
I am in favor of medicinal marijuana and I can not believe the statements that you have made. The fact that you make a statement that marijuana is not a medicine after the Institute of Medicine has supplied a report saying it does have medicinal value is insulting. Are you a physician? Are you a scientist? What qualifies you to make a statement like that? You talk about reading Orwell's 1984... I suggest that you read it and look at the turns our country has been taking. We have video cameras on us in various places some even infringing on personal privacy, we have had our right to be searched basically removed, our homes are invaded by officers claiming to be fighting crime. It seems to me that if anyone is being subjected to "Big Brother" it is the citizens of the United States. Daily we see you, our representatives voting our rights out from under us claiming it is in the best interest of the "country". This country was built based on personal freedoms and rights and from what I hear come out of your mouth, I would say you have your own personal agenda and could care less about individuals rights and freedoms. The direction your views and opinions are leading us is into a military state. Do you want to be a part of that? Have your name go down in history being one who lead us there?I, sir, If I lived in your state, would move rapidly out of there, for you would certainly not be representing my opinions. I would love to see how your state would vote reguarding this issue. Have you asked them? Or are you doing as so many representatives are, once elected into office, forgetting the constituents that put you there and speaking your own personal views and opinions for your political gain. This country does have a drug problem but time has shown that the tactics that you and others like yourself (Barry McCaffrey) have taken have been ineffective and have only caused drugs to become more available at a lesser price than before your "War on Drugs". Filling prisons with people that choose to put those drugs in their bodies is a crime as bad if not worse than the person that does the drugs. You waste millions and millions of dollars building more prisons to hold non-violent offenders, instead of providing drug treatment programs. That sounds to me that you are a part of the problem instead of part of the solution.Barry McCaffrey has backed up since the idea of adding anti-alcohol ads to his program. He states it would distract from the impact of drug education. I would say the alcohol is the most widely abused drug, most deadly drug, and a drug that has no merit other than getting buzzed, but nobody wants to touch that issue for fear of offending the alcohol companies that contribute so much financial aid to politicians. How much do you receive from them? It should be available to the public just how much money they pay you to stay out of their business. In short, representatives like you, make me fear that our freedoms given to us by our Constitution and Bill of Rights are in great danger. I can only hope that your constituents see how dangerous your direction is and decide it is time to take action in another direction.May God guide you in a more compassionate manner,Jean Cowserthttp://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread1735.shtml

thank you JOHN MICA
As a mother struggling to hold a family together through one member's bout with addiction I thank GOD everyday for people like John Mica. Until you have tried to care for your family and deal with an addicted member any favorable opinions of any drug seems very naive.

I live in Mica's district
Peoples perseptiions are THEIR realities.Hemp(cannibas) was grown and used by the framers of the constitution. while Mica has done well for my support of 2nd amendment rights he lacks focus on the subject of hemp. The problem is not with his drug policy, it is his perseption of what is a drug. Opponents of hemp have been allowed to FRAME the argument by painting hemp as having negative effects where none exist. This misconseption regarding hemp can be traced back to it's origin at the DuPont Chemical Co. Hemp being a natural product and readily availible and easily grown but laborously harvested was a threat to DuPont's patents on petroleum based products. With the advent of mechanized farming hemp products which were better and renewable and now easily manufacured, were going to put petroleum based products like polyester and styrofoam out of business so DuPont concocted a publicity champaign defaming hemp as an evil influence on the public and spent millions lobbying the government to ban hemp and this ban is still in effect 40 years after DuPonts patents on petroleum products has run out.

Rep. John Mica's Roll Call Online article...
Hello all, I have started a discussion list at the BBS News DailyPage called The Seven Points of Truth Project. Thisproject is intended to refute the seven "sound arguments"that Mica referred to, which so far have turned out to begross distortions of truth. In fact, the very firstscientist contacted says, "Mr Mica must have me confusedwith someone else."Currently, in the discussion list archives, I have listedthe cites I have found so far, fifteen out of theseventeen scientists listed. Mica made a grave mistake bynaming names and with your help we can put together a webbased response, with hot links to the relevant material, and show the country and the wolrd the depths that thischairman of the Government Reform subcommittee on criminaljustice, drug policy and human resources will sink to intrying to justify the arrest and caging of medicinalmarijuana users as well as folks who make use of the plantin a peaceful way.Hope to see you there.Michael Hess

Send email
Send these reports to your politicians and ask how they can condone this kind of behavior.I suggested to mine that this closed minded obtuse behavior by Mica is the reason people are so discouraged by th people running the gov't. Make sure you state though that you like the principles and the reasons we are supposedly free. Our kind of democracy is beginning to show big cracks. I always wondered how a government could implode on itself and cause genral turmoil in the populace. We supposedly have it so good. But our beloved politicians are ruining it for all of us and quite possibly the world.Who would want to follow our lead with the stupidity going on.The Chinese are right we need to clean our act before we criticize others. Some of what our gov't does is just as bad as what the Chinese have done.Tianamen Square = Kent StateI pray that people will start seeing the need for honesty in our politicians and get rid of the doublespeak liars.Vote for Ventura types.CheersRainbow

If we keep speaking..they have to answer!
And that is the truth. As close minded as my state is, I am not keeping my mouth shut! The government wants us to get discouraged, so we will give up! I have gone away many times, not this time! They need to look at Canada!...

I'll Second The Amen!
How can they not listen? They must not have any compassion at all to be so close minded and opinionated. Our government is a government that is not run by the people any more! This must change!
