Ganja, Ganja Everywhere ... If You Live in Holland

If you were living in Holland, as of last week Monday, your medical doctor could legally write you a prescription for ganja (marijuana) if you were suffering from the severe nausea or pain associated with diseases such as cancer, Tourette's syndrome, AIDS or multiple sclerosis. The Cannabis, with the active chemical, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), would be measured out by your pharmacist into nicely-labelled containers and your health insurance would cover the cost.
Australia, Canada, Germany and several states in the United States also allow the restricted use of medicinal marijuana or its active chemical.Jamaica's law, as it currently stands, would not allow the medical community to prescribe "the raw" ganja with the psychoactive ingredient, THC, as is now allowed in Holland, even as an antiemetic agent to control the severe nausea associated with disease such as cancer. However, Dr. Albert Lockhart indicated that, Asmasol, an anti-asthma product, developed by himself and research partner, Professor Manley West, from an isolated Cannabis agent, can also be used as an antiemetic."Asmasol also reduces vomiting and nausea in patients with cancer and AIDS. When they take it, they vomit less and eat more and are able to put on weight," he said. This ganja-based product is available here without a prescription."If we get enough request, we can make one specifically for that purpose (antiemetic purpose). We can produce it but we have to assess the demand," Dr. Lockhart continued. Those who have studied the pharmacology of Cannabis report that the THC, is the most abundant of the 400 or so chemicals in 'the weed' and accounts for the intoxicating effects when it is smoked (or taken as 'tea') and rapidly absorbed into the blood stream.Dr. Lockhart indicated that the difference between the prescription product now available in Holland (and in other countries) and those available here, is that patients there have access to the active ingredient, THC, in controlled lower or higher portions. The products available in Jamaica and manufactured by the Lockhart and West team are based on ganja's non-THC content."They are controlling the THC part and allowing people to buy ganja of a certain THC content for medicinal purposes. We (West and Lockhart) don't get involved in those discussions (about whether THC should be used and the levels), the government determines that," Dr. Lockhart said.Besides, Asmasol (used to treat asthma, coughs and colds), the West and Lockhart team have also isolated an effective anti-glaucoma agent from ganja bottled as a drug called Canasol; a more potent version Cantimol has been developed (though not yet registered) and the team is ready for clinical trial of a third active ingredient isolated from ganja for the treatment of motion sickness.Jamaica's laws notwithstanding, there doesn't appear to be a very strong resistance among medical doctors here to prescribe ganja in a therapeutic form and so long as the prescription doesn't stipulate, "smoke the weed twice daily after meals"."From my knowledge of the debate in the medical community, there is no problem with having extracts from the ganja plant, that have gone through some scientific rigours and found to be therapeutically sound, to be prescribed in a therapeutic way," said Dr. Winston Davidson, public health practitioner and past president of the Medical Association of Jamaica. He also pointed out that generally the medical community would have a problem with the smoking of the herb or smoking in any form, since this has been found to be harmful to health.Furthermore, smoking the ganja will have no therapeutic function... smoking ganja will have no impact on glaucoma," Dr. Davidson said. History Channel resumed
Re: Comment #5 from TecHnoCult The show jumps to speed, its origin and how it was used. Then it jumps back and forth from speed to weed. After WWII the Fed. started getting Hollywood type like Robert Mitchem. Then cannabis has a resurgance in the 60's with the hipsters and everything. Speeds popularity as a perscription drug keeps increasing followed by home made speed. Then at the end they talk about some medical uses of cannabis. All in all, positive for cannabis, though I don't think they should have mixed speed in their story line.

What I use is Notepad for almost everything. I don't know how to get much done here. The webmaster is busy. I need someone who knows how to do things that could help but I don't know who or how. I sure wish I knew more about programming but I am not a programmer.

Thank you all
...for the suggestions, which (copying to the clipboard first just in case) I actually knew about, but will start doing now. I was suggesting the code fix simply because most websites I see *are* able to go forward and backward page-wise and yet come back to the page with the text box and the text is still there. I just happen to think CNews should be as user-friendly as all those far less important websites are, that's all. I'm quite sure it's a minor HTML code upgrade (one line probably).peace,
MF

We talked about your question on this thread and I believe a person can bring their prescription medicine to the states when they come to visit.http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread17204.shtml#15

Question for any who know.
If a Dutch citizen gets a prescription for Cannabis can they bring it to the US while visiting?Isn't there some kind of international agreement for prescriptions?

They put it on late last night, so I only watched it to the point where they began talking about Hitler and Meth. Was there more on cannabis after that?THC

History Channel II
I saw it. Actually, that is part of a whole series of shows on the history of drug prohibition. Other shows have to do with LSD, opium, cocaine and speed. They have these on every so often. This was the third time that I saw this particular one. This show revealed that cannabis was outlawed due to racism against Mexicans and blacks. There was no drug problem in the country at all. Harry Anslinger and William Randolph Hurst whipped up a phony anti-cannabis hysteria and frightened Congress into passing the Marijuana tax act of 1937. The Fed. has stuck to this lie ever since. They will have it on again. It's good.

This is what I do. When I write a comment before I hit post message I slide my mouse over the whole comment and copy. Then if it doesn't work I can paste it back in. I learned to do that a while ago and saves me a lot of frustration. I could contact the webmaster but I doubt anything would be done so this way it will work for you and I'm sorry you lost your post. I hope this helps.

Max...
Some possibilities not involving code: Back the browser up to your original post (if your browser is smart enough to keep it there, some are some aren't), or select-all and copy before submitting, or compose in a text editor and copy/paste into the browser. Just some suggestions, in case the CN staff don't get around to hacking the code.I have done the same thing enough times that I eventually thought of these options. ;-)-TM

Tommy...
..hasn't learned to propely lick the boots of our masters. The standard operating procedure for any celebrity in drug trouble is to vehemently express remorse, tell how bad drugs are, and pledge your support for locking OTHER people up for doing the same thing you got caught doing. Then quietly go on doing whatever you damn well please, with the full knowledge that your wealth and privilege will insure that you never have to face the consequences you advocate for OTHERS.

Alarming!!!!! BLACK LEADERS WARY OF NEW JAIL
Officials in struggling Williamsburg County see the new federal prison rising behind the pines along a lonely two-lane highway as the answer to the high unemployment level...http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v03/n1358/a01.html?397 (Note: How do You lower unemployment??? Cage them. Drug laws were created in part because of racism... and they have worked... now it is blatent. VERY SAD. PEOPLE MUST SPEAK UP... I am so amazed that the entire black community does not speak up, more & that the Democrats as a whole, don't speak up) Bush - Ashcroft & Repub's, are, it seems racist.420Max Flowers, I have had the same problem. Print words on a document and copy and past... I still forget sometimes... and still will get things cut... KEEP AT IT.

FoM (off topic)
This is a Cannabis News suggestion... I don't know where else to put it since there is no admin email or suggestion box on this site.Is there any way to update the code on CNews so that you don't lose your text if you have forgotten to enter your password and you try to post? I just lost a good post I spent a long time writing because I hadn't put my password in yet and I hit the Post Message button. It took me to a screen that says "please enter your password" or words to that effect but when I was returned to the original page, the text field was now empty my text was gone. And this has actually happened to me once before, too... you'd think I'd have learned. (Must be all that great bud...) Anyway that feature (retaining the text) really should be there. Can you ask your webmaster about it?thanks
MF
