Brussels – The Belgian government said Wednesday it would have no objection to following the Dutch move this week to make cannabis available from pharmacies on prescription. Minister for Health Rudy Demotte confirmed Belgium could be the next European country to legalise the sale of cannabis in pharmacies. “This is an area where public health must prevail and research has shown that cannabis can be of medicinal use,” a Health Ministry statement said.
Studies have shown cannabis derivatives to be effective in the treatment of the secondary effects of chemotherapy, anorexia, epilepsy and depression. Research is currently being carried out in several Belgian universities to prove the medical benefits of cannabis before the substance could be given to patients in this country. British pharmaceutical company GW Pharmaceuticals has already applied to the EU for its cannabis-based sublingual spray to receive accreditation, at which time the product would be sold in all member states. I wanted to tell you that using the words for Google was a good idea and made me laugh. I just don't think that's quite what Neil Young meant though! LOL!

Have You Heard the New Neil Young Novel?I say:You betcha. I listen to Greendale everyday and have all the words memorized. I read on a Neil Young Fan's Web site that the movie will be released in February. They are going to do a DVD of the live tour too but I don't know when that will be released. Greendale is my favorite album that I've ever heard. The message is powerful.A little love and affection in everything you do will make the world a better place with or without you.Someday you'll find everything you're looking for.http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/young.htmhttp://www.freedomtoexhale.com/greendalepics.htmhttp://www.freedomtoexhale.com/greendale.htmhttp://www.freedomtoexhale.com/reviews.htm

thread
from:http://www.nytimes.com/2003/11/09/arts/music/09BELL.htmlHave You Heard the New Neil Young Novel?(snipped) Caught in a routine traffic stop by Officer Carmichael, Jed panics because his car is full of drugs. Unfortunately for everyone, he also has a handgun. He kills Carmichael, lands in jail and transforms the whole Green family into unwilling tabloid media heroes. When the TV crews descend in their helicopters on the double E, Grandpa goes out — with a shotgun — to assert his right to privacy and winds up dead. Sun Green, already politically sensitive to the oppressive qualities of what Mr. Young doesn't explicitly identify as the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Ashcroft regime, reacts by chaining herself to "a statue of an eagle in the lobby of Powerco," where she howls protests through a bullhorn "against anything unjust or packed with lies" — by implication the corrupt government-corporate collusion of the Bush II years. Afterward, the F.B.I. starts following her to the bars where she likes to dance, and finally they break into her room, kill her cat and file marijuana charges against her that are later dropped. Sun Green leaves town with Earth Brown, a like-minded young man she meets in a bar; the two head for Alaska with a notion of joining the militant environmental movement. The dramatization of these key episodes is efficient, but unusually full for popular songs. Mr. Young makes a few detours from this narrative highway to pick up a couple of nicely achieved subplots. His account of Officer Carmichael's funeral, the infidelity his unexpected death reveals and the quarrel he had with his wife when he left her to go to work on the day of his death is heartbreakingly on the mark. With a novelist's instinct, Mr. Young realizes this particular policeman as whole human being, with a past and a prematurely foreclosed future — as much a victim as any of the Greens.

The New York Times did a two page review of Greendale for their Sunday paper and it's good and I thought you might want to read it. It is the first article. You need to scroll down a little but you'll see it. http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/reviews.htm

Thanks Jose
It still won't work for me. I did get to see it and it was great when it was working but it only worked for a little while and then it didn't. When Neil Young put the videos on his site he used the media player and I didn't have any problems. I'm not sure why though.

I hope you check this thread. The news has been slow so I made a couple pages to remember Greendale. I am really only use to making little pages for drug policy and this one was made for fun. I was only able to view the video Be The Rain a few times and it didn't work after that. I hope you got to see it at least once.http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/young.htmhttp://www.freedomtoexhale.com/greendalepics.htmhttp://www.freedomtoexhale.com/greendale.htm

The link doesn't work now but here is another
Young began writing the songs in August 2002 and had them all recorded by the end of the year. The activist flavor of the lyrics harks back to such earlier Young albums as 1989's "Freedom," which featured the anthem "Rockin' in the Free World."http://www.tribnet.com/24hour/entertainment/story/989770p-6949750c.html

Here's an article I just found. They are going to make a live version from the tour too it says in the article. I still can't get Be The Rain to play. I checked a Pot TV show and it works so I'm not sure why this one won't.Neil Young Premieres Film in TorontoBy DAVID GERMAIN TORONTO - Thanks to Neil Young, Norman Rockwell is rockin' in the free world.Young steered his concert tour north for a stop at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he premiered his small-town rock flick, "Greendale," on Friday. The film is part Rockwell, part rock 'n' roll animal _ a visual rendering of an album that Young describes as a "musical novel." The songs tell the sad story of a family in a once-idyllic northern California community that's struck by tragedy and besieged by the forces of modern media and global strife.Snip:The Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and resulting U.S. military action lent greater urgency to the "Greendale" songs, Young said."The world's quite a place, and Greendale is in the world," he said.Complete Article: http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2003/09/05/ap/Entertainment/apnews68970-06.txt

FoM...
I'm having trouble getting it to play also but I'll keep trying. Thanks for that article from "The Australian". I disagree with the article about when Neil's career turned around. I think it was with "Freedom". That was late 80's. He followed that with "Ragged Glory", which was also an outstanding album...one of my favorites! "Harvest Moon" followed that...if my memory serves me right!

Major Cannabis Bust
In beautiful San Diego. Chula Vista to be exact. Cops displayed over 2-tons of packaged cannabis today on network TV news including tons of cash, watertoys/boats, fancy cars, a beamer, machine guns and two high-end attractive pieces of Southern California real estate. Paraded as a major bust by law enforcement it actually illustrates the obvious economics of supply and demand. Law enforcement made no arrests and encountered no violence of any kind. For cops it was like, walk in and load up the moving van you guys. Actually, just put all this stuff together in a pile and take lots of pictures. This blatant media display of law enforcement "prowess" or "bust-ability" only proves the point that this little wonderful plant should be relegalized for responsible adults. It's a simple freedom issue no different than casino gambling. In my opinion the fence sitters just by seeing this big bust on TV will be saying to themselves "what a waste of our policing powers. This only shows it should be regulated or legal or something."

Yes he did the camera work and I didn't know he plays Wayne Newton. That will be a hoot! It's was very sad when Grandpa died. When Grandpa says his last words I couldn't help but laugh. Then he fell face first and let out a sigh, and Edith ran out in shock. He was looking at her from down on the floor,Grandpa looked like he was trying to talk."That guy just keeps singin'!Can somebody shut him up?I don't know for the life of mewhere he comes up with that stuff."To prepare for Greendale, Young did the customary shedding of personnel. "I changed or adjusted or pared down all the crews and all the people I was working with in all the works of creativity," Young the chief executive explains. Was there resentment? "No, not resentment. Misunderstanding, maybe. Short-lived misunderstanding."Has he ever put anything ahead of his artistic needs? "Not very much," he concedes. "Family. You know, that is a balancing act. But I have a wife, a wonderful wife of 25 years."Pegi Morton, a waitress who worked near his California ranch, is the second Mrs Young. He married briefly in the late 1960s, divorced, and had a son, Zeke, with actor Carrie Snodgress. But it is Pegi who, uniquely, is the collaborator he never reneged on, however hard times got. "It must be because she is a great woman. To handle me is not easy," he admits. Pegi has survived cancer and they have both cared for a son so disabled by cerebral palsy that he is quadriplegic and cannot speak. In 1980 Young made the sacrifice of turning his back on music to care for Ben. When, disillusioned by the physical regimen it had been recommended that he subject the boy to, he returned to recording 18 months later, his career entered a decline that wasn't reversed until Harvest Moon in 1992. Ben is now 23.He is, says Young, "a great guy with a great spirit" and they know what he is thinking most of the time. Did having Ben change him? "I think he gave me a lot of power. A lot of power and ability to keep on going, no matter what." Because, after that, he knew he could get through anything? "No, more because of the things Ben had to get through. I had such admiration for him, doing what he did, living his life, having his good attitude."Greendale, it turns out, not only harks back to family values but is also a family affair. Pegi plays Edith Green. Zeke works backstage. Even Ben toured with them. His sister Amber, 18, is one of the dancers and her friend Sarah White plays the hippie-ish Sun, repository of Young's hopes for the future. Young professes to believe that young people will use the internet to save the environment. "There's no doubt green is the new colour."But how new? The first song on Greendale is Falling From Above. Its lyrics contain a fine pun that seems to mock this stage of Young's career: "I won't retire but I might retread." They go on: "Seems like that guy singing that song had been doing so for a long time. Is there anything old he ain't said?"http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,7058300%255E16947,00.html

I'm so very glad you liked Greendale. I listened to Greendale a number of times just today. I even listened to it when I was mowing. Greendale isn't just a bunch of songs but it has a powerful message. It is the best music I have ever heard. In it's simplicity is such beauty and a very powerful message. Neil Young out did himself this time. I can't wait for the movie. Tomorrow Greendale the movie premieres at The Toronto International Film Festival. I've seen all but 3 of the songs. They didn't show them on Neil Young's site so far. I haven't seen Carmichael, Sun Green or Be The Rain and can't wait. Look at the little picture of Sun Green chained to the eagles beak!http://www.e.bell.ca/filmfest/2003/filmsandprogrammes/description.asp?pageID=sched&id=298

On a Roll
“This is an area where public health must prevail and research has shown that cannabis can be of medicinal use,” a Health Ministry statement said. The rest of the civilized world is coming to it's senses as America's drug warriors disregard public health in favor of the almighty buck. FoM, I'm sitting here listening to the new "Greendale" CD. It was an awesome show & he got a great reception for Greendale! He bashed Clear Channel a couple of times between songs. It is Neil's best work ever, imho. The music of the Revolution. We are definitely on a roll. Nothing can stop us now!!!

Will Gray Davis meet the challenge?
In last night's debate between the five major candidates to replace Gray Davis, medical marijuana was the one thing all five agreed on. It was like there was no left or right wing, just humans concerned for human pain. This puts an obvious challenge before Gray Davis. Will he see the light and take steps to make amends with the patients in his state?
