Winnipeg - Anne McLellan, the federal Health Minister, will hold preliminary discussions with the Canadian Pharmacists Association next month to determine whether its members can distribute medical marijuana instead of doctors.Answering doctors' questions at the Canadian Medical Association's annual meeting yesterday, Ms. McLellan said the pharmacists' group has "expressed some interest" in providing the dried marijuana to individuals authorized to use it for medical purposes.
In response to a court ruling forcing the federal government to supply the drug, Ms. McLellan last month announced a temporary plan to deliver marijuana to patients through doctors' offices, with physicians being used as "intermediaries" to give the drug to their patients. The Canadian Medical Association (CMA), however, is opposed to the policy. Some doctors are also concerned people will break into their offices or that they will be harassed by patients."I clearly understand the concerns of the CMA and doctors, and that's why we have contacted both the CMA and the Canadian Association of Pharmacists," Ms. McLellan told doctors after delivering her speech. "We are going to sit down in the weeks ahead, very soon, and talk to both groups and determine how we can move forward in a way that works for everybody."Complete Title: McLellan, Pharmacists To Discuss Over-The-Counter Marijuana Sales Snipped: Complete Article: http://www.nationalpost.com/national/story.html?id=481B3C44-BB78-49CE-A32D-59DD6E5C4DBASource: National Post (Canada)Author: Mary Vallis, National Post Published: Tuesday, August 19, 2003Copyright: 2003 National Post Contact letters nationalpost.comWebsite: http://www.nationalpost.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Canadians for Safe Accesshttp://www.safeaccess.ca/Medical Marijuana To Sell for $5 Per Gramhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread17010.shtmlOttawa MDs Won't Handle Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16842.shtmlMedicinal Marijuana Use Divides Physicianshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16837.shtml

Over the Counter in Hawaii!
Just what the program needs here to complete our freedoms. An over the counter availability for medical cannabis from a certified professional. Oh yeah, that's exactly what we have proposed for many years and find ourselves closer than ever. Our business plan is available to potential clinical cannabis investors and calls for cooperation with all agencies related on all levels of government. We have the DEA permit application in hand and already have our State Narcotics License. Seriously, any help to reach this worthy goal would be appreciated. How can you fault us for wanting and achieving being legal? Right. Box 742 Hilo, Hi. 96721

CMA, Bureaucracy: Enemy of Patient & Doctor Alike
"Frustrated by an inflexible, bureaucratic health system that has heaped more patients with more complex problems on fewer physicians, 45.7 per cent of doctors who responded to a CMA survey said they're burned out by the profession." --Burnout is now doctors' ailment.
Aug. 20, 2003, 06:26 AM. "Almost half of Canadian doctors say they're burned out, emotionally exhausted and blame medicine for putting a drain on their family life. New research presented yesterday at the annual general meeting of the Canadian Medical Association shows a mental health crisis among doctors, Karen Palmer reports." Pot Plants Suffer in Outage August 19, 2003OTTAWA - Turns out pot plants don't like being in the dark either, volunteers with the Toronto Compassion Centre are nursing marijuana plants back to health this week. The centre says they are monitoring up to 50 grow operations around the province. Those sights use high-power lighting equipment to keep plants growing around the clock.Members of the group say the amount of damage won't be known until next month when the plants are due for harvest. http://ottawa.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=ot_pot20030819
