In a speech before the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Police and Human Resources, US Drug Czar General Barry McCaffrey recently singled out Cannabis Culture Online as a bad website, which encourages, aids and abet drug use.
The General misquoted a page from our site as saying “Overthrow the Government! Grow your own stone! It's easy! It's fun! Everybody's doing it! Growing marijuana: a fun hobby the whole family can enjoy!”. The page in question actually reads “Overgrow the government!” but he got the rest right.Cannabis Culture is dedicated to the complete removal of all laws prohibiting the use and cultivation or cannabis or any other plant. Our magazine and website proudly advertise those brave businesses which trade in marijuana seeds and help those who need marijuana to grow some in the privacy and safety of their own homes. There are over 200 million cannabis consumers worldwide. We are your children and your parents, we are your friends and coworkers, we are your teachers, your students, your leaders and your citizens. The war against marijuana users is a massive civil rights violation, an ongoing cultural genocide on a worldwide scale.Cannabis is far safer than other household medicines like aspirin or tylenol, both of which claim many thousands of children’s lives each year. We encourage parents who use or grow marijuana to share an honest understanding of these plants with their children, rather than cloaking them in ignorance and letting their children believe the lies told on the school ground, and by DARE officials.Drug warriors like General McCaffrey promote destroying the families of marijuana smokers. Countless children have lost their parents to the prison system simply because their parents preferred marijuana to alcohol or other drugs. Cannabis Culture recognizes that marijuana use does not make someone a bad parent. On the contrary, many parents report that marijuana allows them to better relate to their children, and increases their patience, tolerance, and understanding of their children’s needs.Marijuana is a good and beneficial plant that has served humanity for millenia. The past eight decades of anti-marijuana warfare is a cancer on our society which is causing a great deal of harm to pot-smokers and non-pot-smokers alike. Marijuana is good prohibition is wrong.Dana LarsenEditor, Cannabis Culture Magazineemail: muggles cannabisculture.comExcerpt from the testimony of General Barry R McCaffrey, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, before the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Police and Human Resources:McCaffrey: Legalization, whether it goes by the name harm reduction or some other trumped up moniker, is still legalization. For those who at heart believe in legalization, harm reduction is too often a linguistic ploy to confuse the public, cover their intentions and thereby quell legitimate public inquiry and debate. Changing the name of the plan doesn't constitute a new solution or alter the nature of the problem. In many instances, these groups not only advocate public policies that promote drug use, they also provide people with information designed to encourage, aid and abet drug use. For example, from the Media Awareness Project (a not-for-profit organization whose self-declared mission is to encourage a re-evaluation of our drug policies) website a child can "link" to a site that states: Overthrow the Government! Grow your own stone! It's easy! It's fun! Everybody's doing it! Growing marijuana: a fun hobby the whole family can enjoy! The linked website goes on to provide the reader with all the information needed to grow marijuana, including a company located in Vancouver, Canada that will ship seeds or plants. The Media Awareness Project website also includes links to instructions about how drug users can defeat drug tests. Similarly, the websites of both the Drug Policy Foundation, a self-proclaimed drug policy reform group, and the Media Awareness Project, both provide links to a site that gives instructions for how to manufacture the drug "ecstasy."Careful examination of the words -- speeches, webpostings, and writings -- and actions of many who advocate policies to "reduce the harm" associated with illegal drugs reveals a more radical intent. In reality, their drug policy reform proposals are far too often a thin veneer for drug legalization. The complete speech is on the MAP inc website in a series of files beginning with:http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v99.n636.a02.htmlThe speech is also available from the White House Drug Policy website, but it’s in Adobe PDF format:http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/news/testimony/legalization.pdf The specific Cannabis Culture page to which McCaffrey refers is at:http://www.cannabisculture.com/growThe Hotpot is part of Cannabis Culture's resource archive.
