Health Canada is set to release a user's manual for medical marijuana this week - a move a city cop can't help but chuckle over. "It's another drastic waste of taxpayers' money," said city police Sgt. Peter Kawalilak, president of the Alberta Federation of Police Associations. "If people are bound and determined to use this drug ... I'm sure they already know how."
The unprecedented move has been triggered by the courts, which compelled Health Canada this month to begin distributing government-certified marijuana to a group of patients who take the substance to alleviate symptoms. The department must also release a manual on how to use its dope - but a draft version of the document shows patients will get little practical advice about ingesting marijuana and lots of warnings against using it at all. "Administration by smoking is not recommended," says the 59-page document, which is modelled on drug product monographs, standard for approved medicines. Apart from brief sections citing scientific studies on taking marijuana orally - baked in a chocolate cookie, for example, or rectally as a suppository - the manual offers no techniques to avoid smoking. "We're not recommending, in fact, that marijuana be used," Suzanne Desjardins, a Health Canada scientist who helped produce the manual, said in an interview from Ottawa. "It's a drug we don't recommend. If people want to use it, then we're saying, well, don't use it by smoking it ... There's no study that demonstrates (in) what form it should be used." Users who do choose to smoke are warned that "smoking should be gentle and should cease if the patient begins to feel disoriented or agitated ... naive smokers should take great care and be supervised." The document, headlined Information for Health Care Professionals, warns of potential panic attacks, psychosis and convulsions in some cases. Kawalilak said marijuana is still a gateway drug that leads to other hard narcotics. "Every police officer you talk to is going to be of the same opinion," said Kawalilak. Note: Feds to release marijuana user's manual.Source: Edmonton Sun (CN AB) Author: Dan Palmer, Edmonton SunPublished: Monday, July 21, 2003 Copyright: 2003 Canoe Limited PartnershipContact: letters edm.sunpub.comWebsite: http://www.fyiedmonton.com/htdocs/edmsun.shtml Related Articles & Web Site:Health Canadahttp://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/Ottawa Instructs Medical Pot Users http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16909.shtmlHealth Canada Set To Release Users' Manual http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16908.shtmlMarijuana Research To Continue Despite Troubleshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16905.shtml

"That Health Canada neglected to suggest alternatives forms of ingestion to smoking in their new cannabis manual is inexcusable (Health Canada Readies Release Of Dope Manual -- July 21). The B.C. Compassion Club Society and the Vancouver Island Compassion Society gave a joint (no pun intended) presentation to Health Canada's advisory committee last May. Club representatives explained the pros and cons of baked goods and tinctures and demonstrated the use of a vaporizer, a smokeless inhalation device."

Yes the Volcano is around $750-800. I really splurged. Hopefully the payoff will be more than worth it. It catches all of the vaopr in the bag, and you can use the same load over and over again to get the last bits of cannabinoids out of it. There's no second hand smoke and almost no smell in the room or on me afterwards. And no tar. No ashes. No burned stuff to scrape out later. Just a little pile of dried cannabis with the cannabinoids gone. The Volcano benefits from a German sense of order in design. All of the parts fit smoothly and sensibly together, the operation controls makes sense and the lines and sleek and clear and functional. If the vaporizer market gets bigger then the more expensive models will come down in price and the cheaper models will improve no doubt.

He gouges people on the price of seeds, but there's no denying his commitment. I liked in the video when they gave him a hockey jersery w/ "Emery" on the back, and his number was "420". So Canadian.

The Volcano is really expensive isn't it around $800? I liked how you justified big male egos. I agree with you.

The Volcano rocks
I just got a Volcano today, it seriously rocks, and I wish it was cheap enough for more people to afford.Sam Adams big male egos are fine with me when they're on men like Marc Emery and used for good instead of evil. His big male ego has done a lot of good while seeking to be stroked.

In order to avoid a posible 'false-arrest suit' We urge you to cease and desist immediatley and free Marc Emery.R. vs Stavert
http://www.cannabislink.ca/legal/stavert.htm
[47] In my view the Federal Crown cannot be permitted to successfully contend that it is restricted by the final judgment of the Court of Appeal of Ontario only within that province. To hold otherwise would permit the Federal Crown to relitigate an identical issue in each provincial and territorial jurisdiction. The potential for conflicting decisions which could easily result in widely varied legal rights from province to province or territory is obvious. If this prosecution is permitted to continue, in effect it would be tantamount to a ruling that more than one third of the population of Canada is immune from prosecution while the residents of Prince Edward Island are not. [48] At page 1 of the Hitzig decision, Lederman J. makes reference to a recent announcement by the Minister of Justice of his intention to introduce legislation to decriminalize the simple possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana.[49] In September of 2002 the Senate Special Committee on Illegal Drugs released its report entitled Cannabis: Our Position For a Canadian Public Policy. That four volume report contains eleven recommendations on the direction in which the Senate Special Committee considers the Government of Canada should move in relation to the control of cannabis. Recommendation #6 of the Report states: The Committee recommends that the Government of Canada amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to create a criminal exemption scheme. This legislation should stipulate the conditions of obtaining licenses as well as for producing and selling cannabis; criminal penalties for illegal trafficking and export; and the preservation of criminal penalties for all activities falling outside the scope of the exemption scheme.[50] There are societal interests to be protected here. There is at present an apparent need for some form of regulatory scheme to control the use of marijuana, whether it carries criminal or non-criminal sanctions. What is more important is that the law have a national application where the Federal Crown has jurisdiction. To restate L'Heureux- Dube J. at p. 302 of Conway: Where the affront to fair play and decency is disproportionate to the societal interest in the effective prosecution of criminal cases, then the administration of justice is best served by staying the proceedings.[51] This in my view is one of those "clearest of cases" referred to in Jewitt where a stay of proceedings should be entered by this court in order to avoid an abuse of its own process. All residents of Canada, wherever they are situated, are entitled, in fairness, to expect a uniformity of approach from the Federal Crown, wherever it performs its prosecutorial function. Until such time as the law is changed by Parliament, or the higher courts provide a ruling which will enable such approach, this charge involving the simple possession of marijuana will not proceed in this court.[52] A stay of proceedings is therefore entered in this matter.Ralph C. Thompson PCJ http://www.cannabislink.ca/legal/stavert.htm "Another challenge for the courts and law enforcement.Even Satchmo had to give pot up, due to heavy-handed police and court penalties:Louis Armstrong on Pot http://www.pot-tv.net/archive/shows/pottvshowse-857.html

User manuals already exist
Part of a letter I sent:Sgt. Peter Kawalilak of the Alberta Federation of Police Associations is half right: a new Health Canada manual is a waste of money, because there are several free on the web: one from Dr. David Hadorn of California, and another from the British Columbia Compassion Club Society, one of the expert associations which has been distributing medical marijuana for years.http://www.davidhadorn.com/cannabis/CM-guideline.htm

Police officers doctors?
Kawalilak said marijuana is still a gateway drug that leads to other hard narcotics. "Every police officer you talk to is going to be of the same opinion," said Kawalilak. Opinion, exactly! Opinions from people who aren't qualified to have health opinions, and who don't wanna spend the time to actually research the basis for their opinion. It's like asking a traffic cop their opinion on how to fix my car.

What a shame
By failing to provide patients with contact info for vaporizer manufacturers, these good doctors will actually be worsening the condition of sick people.By lying about the lack of vaporizer studies (the recent one by funded by MAPS/NORML comes to mind), they are only confirming that the patients' health and lifestyle has never been the most important thing to Western doctors. This reminds me of the 70's, when all those little good-old boy social clubs in the dowtown districs of most big cities were forced to accept women. They whined and whined about the all the reasons why women shouldn't be allowed, but the real reason is that they didn't want any girls in their little boys club. And now, these egotistical bastards don't want anyone intruding on their little doctor/Big Pharm club. These doctors just love the attention and perks lavished on them by the sleazy Big Pharm sales reps - nothing like stroking that big, contorted male ego.
