The federal government would likely scrap its controversial medical marijuana program if trials about to get underway conclude the drug has no therapeutic benefit, Anne McLellan, the federal Minister of Health, suggested yesterday.Ms. McLellan also offered veiled criticism of Allan Rock, her predecessor in the job, for approving the limited use of marijuana for medicinal purposes before finding out if it had any scientifically proven value.
She was asked what would happen if the trials to be conducted by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and others found that marijuana did not benefit patients, or that any benefits were offset by harmful side-effects."As far as I'm concerned, we are a department of health. You work on the basis of approving products, therapies, drugs that have a medicinal benefit," she replied during a meeting with the National Post's editorial board."If it doesn't have a medicinal benefit, I don't know why the department of health would approve it as such."The medical marijuana program, approved under Mr. Rock's watch, currently provides exemptions from marijuana possession laws to about 500 people suffering conditions ranging from AIDS to glaucoma. Many swear that the drug provides relief from symptoms that no other medicine offers.Snipped: Complete Article: http://www.nationalpost.com/national/story.html?id=08F4A161-FFBF-4737-BD0C-C743C061FFEE Source: National Post (Canada)Author: Tom Blackwell, National Post Published: Tuesday, July 15, 2003Copyright: 2003 Southam Inc.Contact: letters nationalpost.comWebsite: http://www.nationalpost.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Canadians for Safe Accesshttp://www.safeaccess.ca/Ottawa MDs Won't Handle Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16842.shtmlMDs Balk At Dispensing Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16830.shtmlGiving a Graceless Okay To Medical Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16818.shtml

Mother Nature Knows Best
It's not cannabis, but doesn't the story sound familiar?"There's only one problem with what could be Mother Nature's miracle cure for cancer, and you won't believe what it is: Greed. To learn more about turmeric's cancer-fighting properties, including the proper dosage, requires large medical experiments with a great number of patients. Such ventures are costly and are typically financed by drug companies eyeing future product development. However, in this case, the "drug" is a natural compound. Aggarwal explained to Reuters that no drug company can reap the financial benefits if turmeric proves to be an effective anti-cancer drug so no drug company is likely to pay the big bucks needed for the medical studies."

...as those who will not see. Anne, honey, you have no choice, its been court ordered. Keep screwing around like this, and the courts will legalize it completely. On second thought...
