More and more Americans are saying they believe America should go to pot.According to a new poll a growing percentage of Americans think the government should regulate marijuana the way it regulates alcoholic beverages, and another survey last year showed that a large majority favored decriminalization of Marijuana.
A nationwide Zogby International poll of 1,204 likely voters commissioned by the Drug Policy Alliance revealed that forty-one percent of those responding agreed that "the government should treat marijuana more or less the same way it treats alcohol: it should regulate marijuana, control it, tax it, and only make it illegal for children." A 2001 a USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll showed that just 34 percent of Americans supported legalizing marijuana. Moreover, the latest poll figures are almost triple the number of those who supported legalization in 1972.Among those backing government taxing and regulation of pot were Hispanics (65 percent). Also agreeing were approximately half of Democrats, Independents, residents of the East and West, Catholics, those with some college education, adults with household incomes over $75,000 or more, and men.A Time Magazine/CNN poll released last October showed that 72 percent of Americans favored marijuana decriminalization, where marijuana offenders are fined but not jailed. Forty percent of those polled favored outright legalization. That figure was more than double the percentage that backed marijuana legalization in 1986. Privacy issue
I had the same thought. It seems that the Supremes are re-emphasizing the "right to privacy". I was quite surprised by this.Based on their decision, the government, at both state and federal levels, would have to show an over-riding need before they could pass laws violating what one did in his home. So you could definitely argue that growing and smoking cannabis in your own home was outside of the government's jurisdiction. The counter argument, to satisfy the "over riding" need, would be for the government to argue that public health requied them to ban such personal behavior. But the onus would be on the government to prove this. I think, at least in regards to cannabis, that they would have a very hard time.So someone needs to start pushing such a case up toward the Supremes.-Pete

I saw your safe access sign in the video last night! It seemed like everyone had a good time. Marc Emery seems like a person that is his own person. I think he would be hard to get to know because he is always thinking. Maybe that's what some people don't like about him but that's what makes a person stand out in a crowd and they get things done. He deserves the title Prince of Pot.

The growing snowball
A nationwide Zogby International poll of 1,204 likely voters commissioned by the Drug Policy Alliance revealed that forty-one percent of those responding agreed that "the government should treat marijuana more or less the same way it treats alcohol: it should regulate marijuana, control it, tax it, and only make it illegal for children." Why isn't cannabis regulated like alcohol and tobacco? 41% of Americans now feel that there is no acceptable answer. We are one movie and one book short of a majority and it would not hurt if Montel Williams, who has MS, would address the issue of MMJ for MS and other conditions- like life.

privacy issue
The day before yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that sexual realtions between consenting adults was none of the governments business. As a result, state sodomy laws were declared unconstitutional. It is a privacy issue. OK. We can all understand privacy. Now, will that logic be applied to cannabis laws as well? After all, here are consenting adults who would like to have a private relationship with a plant. Why can't people keep certain plants in the privacy of their own homes also?

I always hear spooky organ music
Every time I pass the DEA building here in STL. I wonder if that's why there always seems to be a dark cloud above the place? :P

So, I suppose now Johnny Pee will say 40%
of Americans are stupid and/or dupes of the wicked 'legalizers' (spooky organ music). These guys are so predictable they make the perfect 'straight men' in a comedy skit.

I've said it before
As Canada goes, so goes the U.S. Just as with alcohol prohibition. The other major factor in this country will be the mothers who will come to realize that their children are being put in more danger by these horrible drug laws - just as it was with alcohol prohibition. God has a special place place in His/Her heart for mothers. These laws will fall.Peace.
