Toronto -- Dozens of pot smokers toked in front of Toronto police headquarters at 4:20 p.m. Thursday and were ignored by authorities as they flaunted what cannabis crusader Marc Emery called "the lawful right to possess marijuana."Emery, a Vancouver resident, had promoted the event on one his Web sites -- http://www.pot-tv.net -- telling fellow pot enthusiasts: "In Ontario, Canada, you can walk the streets freely with your marijuana. You can smoke marijuana anywhere it is legal to smoke tobacco."
At Thursday's pot party there was no visible police presence; the revellers were left to smoke their joints, bongs and pipes in peace.A few cruisers passed by briefly but no officers were seen amongst the crowd. Inside police headquarters, no officers were made available to comment.Police organizations in Ontario have said they will not lay charges for possession of marijuana under 30 grams until the laws are clarified. The Ontario Court of Appeal ruled on June 10 that it would not overturn a precedent-setting lower court decision that cleared a teenager of marijuana possession charges. The lower court judge ruled there is no current ban on possession in Ontario, since the federal government failed to comply with a July 2000 court order to create a new law dealing with the drug. The Liberal government hopes to have its new marijuana legislation passed by the end of the year. Under the proposed new laws, possession of up to 15 grams of pot - enough to roll about 15 to 20 joints - would be a minor offence that carries no criminal record. The 4:20 p.m. timing of Thursday's event was significant, a nod to a part of pot culture. The mysterious number 420 is synonymous with the drug, but there is no definitive explanation of its origin. Some say it refers to the number of chemical compounds in the drug, others think it may trace back to a police code for marijuana crime, and there are stories that it started with a group of high school friends that went to smoke daily at 4:20, and eventually created the slang term.Emery is recognized in the marijuana community as a leading activist in trying to get the drug legalized. He also runs the B.C. Marijuana Party, Cannabis Culture magazine, a store that sells marijuana seeds, and once ran for mayor of Vancouver. He's been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone magazine, Time magazine and on CNN.Complete Title: Dozens Smoke Pot at Toronto Police Station Flaunting 'Lawful Right' To TokeSource: Canadian Press Published: Thursday, June 19, 2003 Copyright: 2003 The Canadian PressRelated Articles & Web Sites:Pot-TVhttp://www.pot-tv.netBC Marijuana Partyhttp://www.bcmarijuanaparty.ca/Cannabis Culturehttp://www.cannabisculture.com/Marijuana Legal in Ontario http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16326.shtmlNo Laws Ban Possession of Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread16321.shtml

Hatch Spanked FAST by Internet
(BIG GRIN) The following is a lesson on turnabout and fair play. for background, this is from: http://www.refuseandresist.org/resist_this/101898hatch.htmlSocial Concern a Sign of Teen Drug Use? Ask Orrin HatchA 66-page booklet called "How Parents Can Help Children Live Marijuana Free," was published earlier this year by the Salt Lake Education Foundation. The pamphlet features a forward by Utah Senator and Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Orrin Hatch. Included in the book is a list of warning signs for parents to be aware of which might indicate that their child is a marijuana user. In the forward, Hatch urges parents to "carefully study this book... and look for the warning signs of any children who are using marijuana or drugs of any kind." Among the "warning signs" of marijuana use, the book lists "excessive preoccupation with social causes, race relations, environmental issues, etc." (Snipped)---- OK, now here comes the good part, from: http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Jun/06202003/utah/hack.aspONLINE UPDATE: Hatch link hacked By Bob Mims
The Salt Lake Tribune     Hatch's office reports having received hundreds of telephone calls and e-mails, mostly critical, following the senator's call for remote destruction of pirates' PCs and the subsequent revelation about unlicensed software on his own Web site.
Meanwhile, Hatch's Web site linked to the pro-tourism www.myutahsearch.com, which was hacked and redirected on Friday to a pornography site . Hatch's staff quickly removed the link, but traffic to the site itself still was being redirected at mid-day. -----Just Say Know:

Marc Emery should go weekly...
There have been times when I have heard people question Marc's motives. He makes His motives clear. As far as tourism goes, it has to be better than terrorism. For Americans to vacation in Cannada -Marc Emeryville, to smoke pot en mass would be a big boost, for the movement. The movement HAS movement. Let's pick up the pace. It's 4:20 twice a day. Make the 1st one with Our Father.

Once Again: Prohibition Exposes Hypocrisy
from:http://wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,59305,00.htmlSen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) suggested Tuesday that people who download copyright materials from the Internet should have their computers automatically destroyed. But Hatch himself is using unlicensed software on his official website, which presumably would qualify his computer to be smoked by the system he proposes. The senator's site makes extensive use of a JavaScript menu system developed by Milonic Solutions, a software company based in the United Kingdom. The copyright-protected code has not been licensed for use on Hatch's website. "It's an unlicensed copy," said Andy Woolley, who runs Milonic. "It's very unfortunate for him because of those comments he made." (Snipped)
