The Maryland House of Delegates approved a bill today that would dramatically reduce penalties for Marylanders who use marijuana for medical reasons. The bill had bipartisan support and passed 73 to 62. The legislation would allow people charged with possession of small amounts of marijuana to present evidence that they have a medical condition that is helped by smoking marijuana.
The maximum penalty for possession of marijuana for medical purposes would be a $100 fine. There would be no jail term. The bill now heads to the Senate. Last year, similar legislation also passed the House but was killed in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. Some of the committee members who voted against it were not re-elected this fall.Republican Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. supports the legalization of medical marijuana. "If we have a workable bill, we will sign it," he said today.Since 1970, marijuana has been a controlled dangerous substance under state and federal drug prohibitions. Simple possession or use of marijuana can bring penalties of up to a year in prison or a $1,000 fine.Source: Associated PressPublished: March 18, 2003Copyright: 2003 Associated Press Related Articles & Web Site:Medical Marijuana Information Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/medical.htmMedical Marijuana Advances in Md. Pretty sad journalism
Since 1970, marijuana has been a controlled dangerous substance under state and federal drug prohibitions. You would think that if the spit out those few words they would at least be accurate. The above line should read something likeIn 1970 when a schedule was drawn up to classify various substances, cannabis was put in Schedule 1 until a study could be made to determine its accurate classification. A commission was launched stacked by President Richard Nixon and that commission decided that there should be no legal penalty for cannabis. The report was ignored and despite all history, science, and reason the federal government maliciously and steadfastly leaves cannabis in the Schedule 1 category where it should meet the criteria of being subject to widespread abuse, have no medical value, and not even safe with a doctor's supervision. This vicious and malicious classification defended by a deaf, dumb, and blind stonewall approach by a fascist government that supports the financial interest of the plutocracy that runs the country is known as the Schedule One Lie. It is generally used as a portal to unveil the widespread corruption of the government, the contol of the media, the importance of the wealthy's money in politics and the media and the courts, and the use of various tactics including lies, bullshit, obfuscation, various scales of truth rarely exceeding a half-truth in scope, and silence on the subject of cannabis.
