About 100 people gathered at the Richard Blanshard Building Wednesday evening to hear marijuana activists condemn a police bust at Victoria's compassion club earlier in the day.Ted Smith, who ran for Victoria mayor on a legalize-marijuana platform, used an amplifier to condemn the arrests and told his listeners to show up at today's court appearance for the two men arrested.
Smith said the men were arrested at the Cannabis Buyers' Club, 826 Johnson St. For the past seven years the club has supplied marijuana to people suffering from such conditions as HIV-AIDS or Parkinson's disease.According to marijuana advocates smoking pot eases nausea for those undergoing chemotherapy or taking the drug cocktails used to treat HIV-AIDS. It's also said to ease seizures. "It's really bad that we provide a good service to people who are sick and that's held against us," said Smith in an interview. He said the gathering of marijuana activists is a weekly event that takes place at various locations, but always on Wednesday. Smith calls the event Hempology 101.Victoria police said Robert Fink and Scott Johnstone have been arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking.Source: Victoria Times-Colonist (CN BC)Published: Thursday, February 20, 2003Copyright: 2003 Times ColonistContact: letters times-colonist.comWebsite: http://www.canada.com/victoria/timescolonist/Related Articles & Web Sites:Hempology 101http://www.hempology101.com/Cannabis News Canadian Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/can.htmWeeding Out Feds’ Position on Medical Pot http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread13875.shtmlPolice Review Medical Pot Policies http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread12622.shtmlMarijuana Advocate Wants Seized Pot Passed Aroundhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread11764.shtml

Yippeeeeee!!!
Thanks druid!http://www.msnbc.com/onair/default.asp?programAlso, Ed Rosenthal is an author who has sold millions of books as well as an advocate passionate about helping the sick. He is also a convicted felon facing life in prison. His crime: growing marijuana as medicine. But now, the jury who found him guilty believes a terrible mistake was made. What happened in the courtroom? Was justice served? The jury rendered their verdict, but can they take it back?

A Small News Article
I never heard of anything like this before. Really gutsy in my book. All I can think to say is the old expression, necessity is the mother of invention. Pot Seized from Fake Border Patrol CarsFrom Terry Frieden - CNNWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sharp-eyed U.S. officials foiled an innovative attempt to smuggle almost a ton of marijuana into the United States by packing it into two sport utility vehicles disguised as Border Patrol vehicles. Officials said agents from the Border Patrol and Customs intercepted the vehicles, which were emblazoned with the agency's logos, before dawn Wednesday as they crossed into Arizona near Paominas. They found 1,900 pounds of marijuana in the a 2000 Dodge Durango and a 2001 Ford Expedition. Both vehicles had government license plates. Authorities said it was the first time they have caught drug traffickers using fake government vehicles to smuggle drugs into the United States. One of the drivers, an undocumented Mexican, was arrested, officials said, but a second driver escaped. Customs Service and Border Patrol officials said the joint operation was a sign of improved cooperation between the two agencies, who now work together in the new Department of Homeland Security. "That teamwork means bad news for the bad guys," said Chief Border Patrol Agent David Aguilar in Tucson.

H.R. 685 to Repeal the Higher Education Act
NORML is pleased to announce that H.R. 685, which seeks to repeal a
detrimental provision of the Higher Education Act that denies federal
financial aid to any student with a drug conviction, was recently
introduced in the House of Representatives. It is important that you
take
the time to write your Congressmen in support of this important
legislation.According to the Department of Education, a record 48,629 students lost
their financial aid eligibility during the 2001-2002 school year
because
of this provision, while countless others failed to apply altogether
because they believed that their past convictions would render them
ineligible. It is projected that during the 2002-2003 school year an
additional 35,098 students will be denied aid. In total, a whopping
92,841 students have been denied financial aid since the Bush
administration started rigorously enforcing this provision.Denying financial aid to students hurts only those students who need
the
aid, namely, children of lower income families. Children of the
well-to-do
need not worry about losing their college opportunities; they can
afford
the quality legal representation necessary to avoid drug convictions as
well as the price of tuition without financial aid. Young ex-offenders
are
likely to be adversely effected by setbacks like the inability to raise
money for tuition, and may be sent into a downward spiral toward
failure. While no one wants to encourage drug use, neither should we take away
an
individual's opportunity to obtain an education for such a minor
offense
as smoking marijuana. Please take five minutes to send a letter to your
Congressmen urging their support of H.R. 685. Pre-written letters are
available at:

Happy Birthday to you by the way. Just a little late but I didn't forget. As far as I know it still will be on when it was scheduled but they could bump it. When my sister was on Dateline the show got bumped a couple times but the best way is to keep checking until we see it still is on. I sure hope it will be on when scheduled. They notified my sister first so I assume they will notify Ed Rosenthal if there are any changes.

You mentioned in a somewhat earlier post about Ed Rosenthal being on NBC Dateline Friday Feb 21, 2003. Do you know if this is still going to happen. Dateline still doesn't have it on their homepage.
