He's got a Dell. Now, he may be getting a jail cell for possessing marijuana.Benjamin Curtis, the actor known for playing the character "Steven" in Dell Computer television ads, was arrested in New York Sunday night and charged with criminal possession of marijuana, according to Manhattan district attorney office. If convicted of the misdemeanor, Curtis could be sentenced to up to three months in jail.
Dell spokesman Venancio Figueroa said the company learned of Curtis' arrest Monday morning. He said Dell was a long way from making any decision about Curtis' role in future ad campaigns."We're trying to understand and get the facts of the case and we're following it closely," Figueroa said.Curtis became famous for his "Dude, yer getting a Dell!" tagline, which became part of Dell's ad campaign three years ago. Recently, Curtis, known as "the Dell Dude," was relegated to second-string status in Dell commercials as the company began running a series of ads focusing on young company interns.District attorney officials said Curtis was scheduled to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday.Rex Crum is a reporter for CBS.MarketWatch.com in San Francisco. Nasarius,
but I heard that NYPD have this nasty habit of detaining people for 24 hours before facing the charges. By the time, they get to the court, they get the fine and have served a day in jail...Maybe it depend on who you are, heheh!!ff

Silly article about him from June 2002
What's with this dude? The question isn't whether Steven is an advertising success, but why. Although he's occasionally identified as a "surfer," I think it's pretty obvious that it's more the "stoner" cliché that he's riding ...http://slate.msn.com/id/2066488/

Sale?
According to CNN, he's being charged with sale, even though he was buying. That fits with the 3 months comment, but makes absolutely no sense otherwise.http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/02/10/dell.dude.arrest/index.html>>Police said he was buying "a small bag" and was not being charged with intent to distribute. Uh...
First offense possession of under an ounce in New York is a fine of a few hundred dollars. I seriously doubt there will be jail time involved.
