Your front page picture (" 'My dad's a hero,' " Jan. 22) says a thousand words in support of Ed Rosenthal. It may even save him from 20 years to life. However, after the now-seated jurors went through the voir dire process, one wonders how any of them could vote not guilty without being charged with lying during that process. It's time California sent the feds home.
Gerald M. Sutliff Oakland -- http://www.mapinc.org/ Feds are Aiding Crime The Government is spending millions on commercials telling us not to buy marijuana from street dealers because such purchases fund crime and violence. But Ed Rosenthal, like other providers facing federal prosecution, worked in cooperation with health and law enforcement authorities. Now the patients who depended on Rosenthal have to get their medicine from the very street dealers the feds are spending millions to warn us about. These prosecutions guarantee two things: The sick will continue to suffer and criminals will continue to get rich. Bruce Mirken Marijuana Policy Project Washington, D.C. -- http://www.mpp.org/ Why Bother to Vote? Poor Ed Rosenthal thought the state law that allowed growing medical marijuana actually meant something. It sure doesn't look that way now. It looks like the California medical marijuana law is not worth the paper it's printed on. State government officials might as well close up shop; since the feds make all the rules. What's the point of having local elections or even voting? Kim Hanna Worcester, Mass. -- http://www.mapinc.org/ Wasting Tax Dollars The Nation watches the atrocious behavior of our federal government to convict Ed Rosenthal by not allowing voter-approved Prop. 215 for defense. Tell the government California is mature enough to handle the issue of medical marijuana. Voter-approved legislation in every state is on trial here. What a gigantic waste of our hard-earned tax dollars. Larry Seguin Lisbon, N.Y. -- http://www.mapinc.org/ Sins of Omission Last year, I heard Ed Rosenthal speak about his arrest and prosecution. He noted it would be a sin of omission not to use his knowledge and skills to help patients get their medicine. Mr. Rosenthal's daughter is right -- her dad is a hero. Gary Storck Madison, Wis. -- http://www.immly.org/ Oakland Tea Party? In Canada, where marijuana is practically legal, it boggles the mind to watch how Ed Rosenthal is being railroaded. The last time a distant power tried to supersede the will of the local people, I seem to remember something about a tea party in Boston Harbor. Perhaps Californians need to take a more revolutionary tone to get the federal government to stop harassing sick people and their caregivers -- and federal judges, who should know better, to stop acting like puppets. Tim Meehan Ontario Consumers for Safe Access to Recreational Cannabis Toronto, Ontario -- http://www.ocsarc.org/ The Jury is Stacked The Ed Rosenthal trial showcases the machinations of the "greatest justice system in the world." Now that the judge has denied him the right to explain the reasons for his acts by barring medicinal marijuana testimony, and the jury has been stacked to exclude anyone favorable to Proposition 215, a slamdunk is expected. Any pretense of fairness and reason has been stripped away in the fanatical war on drugs. Lies, fabrications and stacked decks are the order of the day. The political prosecution of Ed Rosenthal is an affront to anyone with a sense of fairness and justice. Harry D. Paul, How about some help with the SOL
The Controlled Substance Act of 1970 refers to the legislation formally known as 1970 Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970. It had three criteria for a Schedule 1 Substance That I wish you could talk about.First here is an old PDF file that talks of the DEA denying petitions for reclassification- http://www.uic.edu/orgs/impacteen/generalarea_PDFs/ASCmedmjasc3.pdf It also talks about Bush1 pulling the rug out from the federal MMJ program. Please read from the "Empereror Wears No Clothes" starting at Chapter 6 on MMJ- http://www.jackherer.com/book/ch06.html It talks of how the pill companies and feds prohibited all research into the 400 cannabinoids in cannabis so that natural extracts would be illegal and the pill companies could patent the identical man-made counterpart. Compounds like CBD and CBN would not be permitted to be extracted from plants that had no THC. The fix was in from 1976 when 10,000 studies had proven the value of MMJ. The very last part of Chapter 5 talks of the Dan Quayle and Eli Lilly connection to Bussh1 that got him the vice-presidency. Chapter 7 goes into specific ailments. The section 1988: DEA Judge Rules that Cannabis has Medical Value in Chapter 6 where the DEA's own judge, Fransic Young's statement that "marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man" made no difference 15 months later when the head of the DEA ignored reason and ordered it remained a Schedule 1 substance. Now about 3 months ago a judge talked about challenging the classification in court after his ruling out west in a cannabis trial and it sent the reform organizations looking for a person they could use to challenge the classification. So far there is no news of anything happening on that front and maybe you could address if it can even go through the courts as it is all rigged to keep it a Schedule 1 narcotic no matter what.On July 22, 2002 you made comment16 and I made comments 11 & 12 in thread http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread13469.shtml I find it funny tht this link no longer works but I will copy this from comment11:http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/agency/csa.htm
About a sixth of the way down in Title 21, Section 13 it says this:" (b) Placement on schedules; findings required. Except where control is required by United States obligations under an international treaty, convention, or protocol, in effect on the effective date of this part, and except in the case of an immediate precursor, a drug or other substance may not be placed in any schedule unless the findings required for such schedule are made with respect to such drug or other substance. The findings required for each of the schedules are as follows: (1) SCHEDULE I. (A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse. (B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. (C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision."Now this is one big reason to call the classification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 Narcotic a lie- it has to met the criteria of A and B and C. I would not respect the opinion of anyone that said MJ meets the criteria for either B or C , either of which would disqualify it from Schedule 1 status. So even if there is an argument over A, it is all but moot. Can you comment on the Schedule One Lie. The SOL sure does tell a tale of corruption no matter how you look at it.Paul, did you know Cnews has a chat room now. Sometime I would like to tell you about my song for Free Cannabis For Everyone. I need to finalize my words and have it copyrighted and get it up on the web. It is really pretty good although I probably son't sing much better than Ashcroft when he sores everyone like an eagle if you are familiar with his song he sang on Letterman. And sore is spelled the way I want it. Asscroft doesn't soar at anything. He only sores people, eve3n when he sings. I think it works anytime his mouth opens, but at least when he makes sounds. Now how many journalist will read these words and still not put out some deent work on the subject. Probably near the same amount as listened to the GWP announcement at http://www.gwpharm.com/# You need to listen to that too Paul when you have a chance.

pot cures cancer
Aint it strange that after 1/6/03, when the medical community announced that pot products can cure skin cancer, no major news source has picked this up? If any other chemical group or substance had been discovered to do this, this would be hailed as the most majorist of major stories. But since this is the shrub most likely to be hated by the shrub, EDICT RULES. Nobody wants to know about the "tree of life" since they all make billions demonizing this green herbal remedy.I talked with an older lady in Iowa last week about this. She related a story about a man in Des Moines, Ia, some 60 years ago. Apparently he made a secret "poltice" that could cure peoples' skin cancer lesions. He went to his grave refusing to divulge the "secret ingredients". Something about not wanting drug companies to make millions on it (actually he was probably just scared shit). Now the truth is out, and still it can't get press. What a "McCarthy" zone we live in, eh? When God fearing and God serving people like Ed get demonized by our "public servants" by merely trying to serve sick people. THE WAR AGAINST THE WAR ON DRUGS HAS BEGUN IN FULL SWING. Many will be the casualties, much will be the gain, and soon. Our brothers in Canada have started the final push. This land is too much a part of our "society" to disregard the fast happenings there. Reason will prevail, and I predict that Ed will not go to prison for long, his "sentence" will be cut short, just like the Weedman in New Jersey. Keep the faith. PAUL PETERSON(I am fighting my own "regulatory" battle in Illinois-I was suspended as a lawyer for my own First Amendment advocacy, for 30 months-then I must convince these goons that I have been "reeducated" and "rehabilitated" ie: if I still speak my mind, I have not "learned" the error of my ways. I am asking a federal court judge to force the FBI & the DOJ to prosecute the lawyer police for obtuse mail fraud, etc. If the judge refuses to force such an investigation, I will consider charging him with aiding and abetting PERJURY & MAIL FRAUD, assuming that the facts support such a charge, of course.) PRESS ON TO BATTLE, YEA THAT KNOW THE FIGHT!

Thanks TecHnoCult
Yes, I wrote that here on January 4th and it got copied there the same day except two paragraphs became one- http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/15/thread15112.shtml#1 Someone copied it there but now the SOL term has migrated from Cnews to the outside world and a Cnewser is spreading the call for reform to a new cyberland.

Correction to comment1
I did not mean to say The Great White Dope below. It must have been a subliminable thought surfacing. I meant to say The Great Right DopeIt is the duty of a patriot to fight the corruption of government. Now where are all the patriots?

A new phrase
Last Thursday I referred to Busch as the Great Right Dummy- http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/15/thread15269.shtml#5 Now some people might think I don't restrain myself but there I did. I regret I said those exact words. If I would have thought on it instead of letting my good nature take a more moderate path I would have said the following statement I want to have its own paragraph.George Dickhead Bush is the Great Right Dope.If he could actually make a decent decision or even keep his word there would be no problem with medical cannabis and everyone would have access to the miracle of this herbal remedy. Now you may think p4me why would you come back and call our appointed President the Great Right Dope. Well I did web/newsgroup searchs on Google and Lycos and Copernic Agent and it produced no results. Now a search for Great Right Dope will produce this one result. The reason Ed Rosenthal has his problems today can be said in three words, George Dickhead Busch or in four words, The Great Right Dope.I realize Busch scored 1206 on his SAT and is not a moron. Still, he was never qualified to be president and the world is now telling us how we screwed up letting this guy get appointed. If the media would have published his resume before his appointment instead of hyping the RNC talking points we would not have use of the term, The Great White Dope.I did a search for Schedule One Lie on Lycos and got 51 results. They all came to cannabisnews.com. I did use it one time at marijuana.com a couple of weeks ago in their news comments. It did not show up. It just does not make sense to me how all the reform organizations have not brought up the subject of the SOL to illustrate the government's insanity. Dr. Phil might say, "You have to name it to claim it." Well I say it is named already and someone needs to claim it because you surely cannot acclaim it.Prohibition is a house of cards. Can we all give it a good blow and end this cancer/insanity?Starve the economy and have a thrifty meal- http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread11932.shtml#4Goddam George Busch. What do you think of that Doughnutman?Sometimes I just cannot restrain myself.
