The status of a government-approved marijuana crop in Flin Flon, Man., is a closely guarded secret, says the city's mayor. Mayor Dennis Ballard said yesterday that Health Canada is reluctant to share any information on the underground pot mine, which is approved by the government for medicinal use. "I don't know much of anything about the mine other than what I've read in the paper," he said yesterday.
Health Canada awarded a five-year, $5.7-million contract to Prairie Plant Systems in 2000 to grow 400 kilos of marijuana annually in an underground mine in Flin Flon. In November, a Health Canada official said a second crop was being tested with the hope it would lead to clinical trials. A small amount of the first crop, grown last year, had to be destroyed because it contained spores and fungus. Somebody qualified would have helped...
This whole program has been a game since the second that Allen Rock left office anyway. Just shows how much the government knows about pot, they set this up to fail from the get-go. I am amazed that Brett and Co. did as well as they did despite all the bs rules placed upon them by Health Canada and their lttle gag order certainly has kept this out of the public debate nicely for old Anne-baby (I sure wish she was as uncomfortable as me for a day or two!). As for where it was grown, thats not nearly as important as by WHOM it is grown as knowledge is sorta central to this issue and while I did provide alot of consulting to them there is only so much you can teach over a phone line...we will now force them to allow us trained professionals to produce this product starting with our new hash creme we are getting ready to market now here and EU through compassion centers at first then hopefully stores later...but while all of this is going on we are opening a new compassion club next month at our new location as the waiting list at the other club still runs to multiple pages even here in Vancouver. The government hasn't got a leg to stand upon and they know it, prohibition in Canada hasn't got the life expectancy of a fruit fly (and I ought to know that one as pimping fruit fly's is how I learned genetics :) ) so the future looks a little more sane this year but alot of questions still wait to be answered. peace, Steve Tuck
