Decriminalization debate continuing, Chrétien insists in year-end interview Position contradicts Cauchon pledge of new law early in 2003. Jean Chrétien retreated yesterday from the government's plans to decriminalize marijuana by declaring that no final decision has been made. The prime minister's position contradicts that of Justice Minister Martin Cauchon, who said last week that he intended to introduce decriminalization legislation in the first four months of next year.
Mr. Chrétien, who said he has never tried marijuana, said that the debate over decriminalization is ongoing and that the government will have to make a decision "one day."Mr. Chrétien's spokesman, Jim Munson, acknowledged that Mr. Cauchon "has made his intentions known." But Mr. Munson cautioned that the justice minister's plans are not final."There will be a very vigorous debate," said Mr. Munson.Mr. Chrétien made his comments in a year-end interview with Global TV and in response to a caller who opposed changing marijuana laws.Mr. Chrétien went out of his way to say that he had never tried pot and he does not know what it is like to be high."I don't know what is the feeling," he said.Mr. Cauchon, 40, has admitted to smoking marijuana in his youth and has made no secret of his belief that people caught with less than 30 grams -- about 25 or 30 cigarettes -- should be fined rather than criminally charged.Snipped:Complete Article: http://www.freedomtoexhale.com/mds.htm Source: Ottawa Citizen (CN ON)Author: Janice Tibbetts, The Ottawa Citizen Published: Thursday, December 19, 2002Copyright: 2002 The Ottawa CitizenContact: letters thecitizen.southam.caWebsite: http://www.canada.com/ottawa/ottawacitizen/Related Articles & Web Site:Cannabis News Canadian Linkshttp://freedomtoexhale.com/can.htmDecriminalize Marijuana Nowhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14996.shtmlDecriminalization of Cannabis Makes Sensehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14992.shtmlCanada Has It Right on Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14979.shtml

Look at the Kubby's
The courts have protected them from the police states of amerika who want to kill Steve Kubby. The courts in amerika have their heads shoved so far up the anal cavities of the politicians in washington that "Common Sense" is nothing more than the title of of book by Thomas Paine. It may take a while, but let's not give up yet.

They keep putting it off.
Looks like both sides want to keep putting off the decision.

The Court...
...doesn't want it either. They'll be passing this back and forth for a long time to come. (Yes, I hope I'm wrong).

Pick the shoe back up...
It's only derailed until "Spring". I also believe the government will do nothing and therefore case in defense of the marijuana laws is non-existent. Come Spring, when the courts come back to the case, they are going to see the govt. floundering and strike down all the laws. It's happened before with other issues in Canada and here it is happening again. Good news, imho, but far too slow a process. Just as long as it's legal for my 2004 snowboard holiday... :-)-TM

Hope
Everytime one of The Mob (John Walters, Chretien, whoever)... talk about this stuff...they just look stupid. They talk about Dangers and such, and no one buys it.I just see people raising one incredulous eyebrow, and saying ".... you're kidding, right?"They are playing right into our hands.
Farms, healthcare, wars, guns. Armageddon is going strong.Put on your helmets kids, The Big One is on it's way, and soon."A doctor is someone you used to go see for advice.... not permission!"

More Ammunition For The April Court Hearing
The Supreme Court Judges have to know they're being played for fools. There is a proven track record of this type of questionable activity by the gov't of Canada. In the police states of amerika it wouldn't matter. I believe Canada is different. If Canada doesn't move quickly as they promised, the Court will see how incapable the gov't is in dealing with the cannabis issue. Remember, the court has already threatened to throw the laws out if Canada didn't accommodate the medical needs of cannabis patients. This is just another thorn in the Court's side, and another thumb of the nose at Canada's highest court.
