It's Not 'Just' Marijuana, Says Health Department

In the past 20 years, marijuana growing has undergone a level of sophistication that would make your head spin -- especially if you smoked a hydroponically-grown joint. "It's not 'just' marijuana" is one of the messages the Halton Region Health Department is emphasizing during Drug Awareness Week, which began Sunday and ends tomorrow.
There are many risks associated with using this drug, such as reduced short term learning, reduced motor control and potential lung damage, according to the health department.Other risks are related to the increased THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) levels and possible chemical residue.Marijuana is the second most commonly used drug, after alcohol, among Ontario students in grade 7 to OAC.According to the Ontario Student Drug Use Survey 2001, almost 30 per cent of students reported using marijuana at least once in the previous 12 months.Of the users, about 21 per cent reported using it 40 or more times in the past 12 months.About 9 per cent of the users reported smoking it daily in the past four weeks.According to the Drug and Alcohol Registry of Treatment 2002, marijuana is identified as the number one drug by individuals seeking treatment for drug problems in Ontario.Marijuana is also much stronger than 20 years ago.Growers today are able to concentrate the active ingredient THC.They also use pesticides and growth hormones.Young people may think they know everything about marijuana, but often make decisions based on misinformation, says the health department.Parents have a big role to play with regard to modeling low risk behaviour and talking to their kids about drugs, it says. Kids need to hear how risky marijuana can be.For more information about talking to your kids about drug use, call the Halton Region Health Department at (905) 825-6060, ext. 7835. No One Puts Chemicals on Wild Ditchweed!
Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will. Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

Panama Red
It is obvious that these folks were not fortunate enough to have smoked a little bit of Panama Red. The year was 1970. Not until Skunk came along could it be equaled.A little bit of Panama Red was all that was needed.

a regular farm
"They also use pesticides and growth hormones". Sounds just like a regular farm to me. By the by, I have been hearing of this super weed for several years and have yet to see any, nor have any of the folks I talk to.

I just wanted you to know why the word hoax was used. The little bit I read it seemed ok. My ability to laugh at serious issues is hard because of the death in our family. I'll be more light hearted in the near future but I'm very serious recently because of the elections and family issues. I don't even know who the writer is. I've seen the name but that's about all.

You're absolutely right, it isn't fit for CNews and its alleged appearance in the Star is surely a hoax. What I meant is that it's contents aren't plausible enough to be called a hoax.

I don't know what to call it except a hoax. The thing that was wrong, and I'm looking at it from the potential of problems, is it was cited that it came from the Toronto Star. I didn't read it very closely because I looked for verification and couldn't find any.It wouldn't be good for us in general if the Toronto Star found out about this and could get upset because of false information. So far the Toronto Star has allowed us to post articles and not snip them but this could give them ammunition to require us to do so. That's why I feel it was wrong. Not the content but saying that it came from the Toronto Star.

Walters in Toronto
I don't think that "hoax" is quite the right characterization. Rather than ruin anyone's delight over the prospect of Walters imploding, I will just say that it's a pretty good example of the genre. Haven't laughed so hard in a month.

How about this. This article is a HOAX! That way it is easier for me then to try to fix it. I have no idea why anyone would do this and try to pass it off as an article from a reputable newspaper. http://www.drugsense.org/temp/part1104.html

Thank you FoM!
I don't know what to believe anymore, Walters' rhetoric is so shrill and irrational I figured he'd breathed too much (or not enough) smoke in that cafe in Vancouver and just gone completely insane!I hate to get burned by a hoax but I have no problem laughing my sometimes gullible self! Please either knock out that link or append "HOAX" to the title I gave it - I don't want to perpetuate that kind of stuff - when the real world is quite bizarre and surreal enough as it is!

I didn't post that article because when I first saw it I researched and couldn't find an author by that name or a link to the article. I'm glad I didn't post it because it wasn't true. I always find the article first. That way I know if it is real or not.

Some folks believe in using lies to achieve their means, others believe in the truth. The truth is, even if it is 10 times stronger, which it isn't, it still has killed no one.

*sigh*
"Marijuana is also much stronger than 20 years ago."If I keep saying it, it will be true.
If I keep saying it, it will be true.
If I keep saying it, it will be true."Growers today are able to concentrate the active ingredient THC."Are these people stupid enough to think that the concept of selective breeding is something new?"They also use pesticides and growth hormones."Pesticides, OK. Definitely in use and possibly harmful if not flushed before harvest.
Growth hormones? Like what? I've never heard of any that can be used with cannabis. In any case, plant hormones have absolutely no effect on humans.
