Recreational Use Of Marijuana Falters in Nevada

It looks as though the only campaign in the country to make recreational use of marijuana legal is going up in smoke. Nevada's Question 9, a ballot measure that would allow adults 21 and older to possess and smoke as much as three ounces of marijuana with no threat of criminal penalty, may be headed for defeat Tuesday, according to a new poll.A few months ago, the state's voters seemed evenly split on the groundbreaking proposal.
About 100,000 Nevada residents also had signed petitions supporting a referendum on the idea, which its backers say would free police and courts from the burdens of petty drug busts. But a survey just conducted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal suggests that now as much as 60 percent of the electorate opposes it.The campaign for Question 9, which would still ban pot smoking in public or while driving, is an extension of an expanding national movement to revamp marijuana laws. Voters in nine states already have legalized marijuana for medicinal uses, and others are reducing penalties for possession. John Walters, the director of the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy, has traveled to Nevada twice this fall to denounce the proposed measure, saying it would help drug dealers.Supporters of Question 9 called the latest poll dubious, because it questioned likely voters only. "It's going to be a tight one," said Christina R. Giunchigliani, a state lawmaker who backs the measure, "because we're asking voters to think outside the box."Complete Title: Bid to Allow Recreational Use Of Marijuana Falters in Nevada Source: Washington Post (DC)Author: Rene Sanchez Published: Sunday, November 3, 2002; Page A02 Copyright: 2002 Washington PostContact: letterstoed washpost.comWebsite: http://www.washingtonpost.com Related Articles & Web Sites:NRLEhttp://www.nrle.org/Marijuana Policy Projecthttp://www.mpp.org/Question 9 Opponents Feel Shortchanged http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14635.shtmlLocal View: Reefer Madness Strikes Againhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14624.shtmlNevada Voters Face Marijuana Initiative http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14605.shtml

Call your friends in Nevada and ask them to vote!
We saw the same kind of polls in California in '72 when we ran the free legal backyard marijuana initiative. The respected California (Field) poll had us at 15 to 20 percent going into the election, but we got 34%.The poll was supposed to be of folks that were "likely to vote." Nobody thought so many stoners would vote for the first time. Our initiative got more votes than anything else being voted on statewide - folks went to the polls and voted ONLY for our initiative.I am concerned about the polls, because there are those who may think it has lost already and not vote. But I will not believe it has until the last vote is counted.

THANK YOU N.R.L.E.! THANK YOU NEVADA!
Think about it.Of the 20 million or so tokers, about 20,000 speak out in some form. Do to many reasons from stigma to losing a job to losing promotions to jail. Many reasons are used to stay in the closet and not devuldge information to the public. The voting booths makes us anonymous.

Question 9
Perhaps this poll will make the freedom loving people more aware that they have to get out there and vote. Either way, I will not quit.

WE ALL should be very worried. WAR is at our door. Defeat of the movement to re-FREE cannabis is only a step closer to WAR than a step back from it.

Polls
I have never seen a poll anywhere on the Internet that ever put changing laws against Cannabis in the negative numbers. Polls can be misused but the law of average tells me that we are the ones that should win and the laws should be changed. I hope that I'm right. I also get worried.Time Poll:http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101021104/index.html

Polls
The polls are worthy of increasing distrust. Their danger is causing people to be less likely to vote. There was a story on this in the Dallas Morning News that I cannot post. Basically, it demonstrates that only a tiny percentage of polling calls get through, and a tiny percentage of people take part. It is hard to believe that representative samples are likely.I believe in democracy, but my phone is unlisted for a reason. I have a phone to do business or to speak with people I choose. When one of these outfits interrupt my dinner, I tell them to take our number off their computer. It is sometimes worth asking the pollster their home phone number so that you can interrupt their meal, sleep, etc.We do not have a responsibility to answer polling calls, but we do to vote

No need to apologize for speaking the TRUTH!
...and if you ask me,,,the truth is ,,than Dr DanB,is 99 % right on about the situation!.....I know,,,it sounds a bit absurd to alot of folks, when the idea of rigged votes in America is suggested.....People seem to think that America is somehow immune to rigged elections....I think most Americans assume that there are people keeping an eye on what exactly is going on,,BUT,,it's a long, and strange journey from the actual voting booth, and ballot box,to the place where all the "volunteers",are tallying ballots,,and then reporting the supposed totals to the entities that are responsible for officially counting,and/or verifying the totals, and then reporting the "results",to the next level of the somewhat nebulous, and varying beuracratic entity(s),,until the final "count",is reported to the completely independent, and unbiased media...?...It aint pretty,,but it's time for all Americans to WAKE UP,,and smell the rotting corpse of democracy!.....It always disgusts, and disturbs me,to realize that the US government was hijacked, and taken over,,in a well planned, and slickly expidited coup...The klinton regime is far from innocent,in that it laid the stepping stones, and left the door open for it to occur,,but ya gotta marvel,,when you consider the grotesquely spectactular nature of the empire as it now stands!... I always thought it was a bit creepy, and questionable, how quickly, and easily the gore entity acknowledged defeat!....there was some mail that came to my residence yesterday.....It was addressed to my friend,,who is politically uninvolved,,so I decided to read it...The return address said;" George W. Bush,,President"..(I'm not joking!),,and it was addressed to my friend...It had a stamp on it,that said,"USA NON PROFIT ORG"...on the back,,it said "California Republican Party",,,....Burbank,Ca.......so,,I opened up this nifty little thing, and it contained these two perforated, wallet sized items that said;"Please detach, and use as a guide at the polls"..(I am not kidding!)..these handy little guides contained a list of how to vote on all the canidates, and initiatives!!!All the ways that republicans should vote!,,then,,on the other side of these little guides ,,,I was treated to something that nearly caused me to do a spontaneous projectile vomit in champion tournament fashion!..I wish I would have had this in El Paso last year at the power-barf olympics !.....Here's what it said: "I ask you to hold up the values of America and remember why so many have come here.We are in a fight for our principles, and our first responsibility is to live by them."...president george w. bush..I wish I could share some of the other dazzling high points of this astonishing piece of political snail-mail spam.,,but it's time for my morning Cross-Barf training work-out..I'm gonna strap on my Nike Barf training bib,,and guzzle a can of baked beans, folowed by a jar of pickle relish, and curried chutney,,,the barf of champions!

Sorry, folks.
Look, I realize that everyone believes that this measure must pass, and that everyone therefore believes that it will pass, but let's take a trip down memory lane to see why the Washington Post really is posting these numbers of 60% against.Remember the 2000 election? You know, the one where Al Gore won Florida on a straight vote count, but the Supreme Court declared Bush the winner anyway? Does anyone remember what it was that Bush said on network television about this race? He said, and I quote verbatim, "My brother promised me the state of Florida." Think about that for a minute. How can the governor promise a presidential election to his brother who is running for president? They rigged the election, that's how. And even at that, they still didn't win. They had to get the Supreme Court to stop the vote counting so they could declare "their man" as the winner. Remember, that vote was 5-4. Guess who appointed those five? Republican presidents, that's who.Publications like the Washington Post routinely publish bogus poll predictions like this because they want to condition the masses into accepting what is by now a foregone outcome. It does not matter how people vote on Tuesday--and I still, by the way, hope that a majority turn out to vote in favor of Question 9, if only to make the BIG LIE more difficult for the prohibs to convey--but reality is that these polls are released in order to condition us to believe that the prohibs really will win, when in fact the voting is rigged from the get-go. Having said that, I will still vote on Tuesday (I'm not a Nevadan, by the way. Where I live--Texas--those who are not radical conservatives have to resign themselves to the knowledge that "Hey, at least I voted"). I believe that it is important to vote, even if one already knows one's candidate will not win. I hope that everyone out there from Nevada will also vote. Prohibitionists know only lies; that have no sense of reality outside the little boxes they have built around their lives. It may be that a landslide victory for Question 9 will force prohibitionists in Nevada to abandon their plans to rig the outcome. Who knows? But, as they say in Nevada, "Don't bet on it."Dan B

..."... according to a new poll.."
....Yes,,notice,,once again,we see an article that is based on sheer assumption...The whole article is fabricated on the basis of "a new poll".....Here is what we know about this "poll",after reading the article:"But a survey just conducted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal suggests that now as much as 60 percent of the
electorate opposes it."..notice,,the "poll",has now become a "survey",,,and the survey,"suggests" the nebulous freaked out unsubstantiated notions that the entire article is based on!..This is devious rubbish!...Empire propaganda that is sleezily subtle,,but then again,,it is big-ass blatant in the contorted use of assumed false facts.(?..pardon me..?).....These are the same polls and surveys that say that most people approve of dubya,,and unemployment is down,,and that most people want to bomb Iraq, and that the economy is not that bad,and that homeless people are ruining the economy because they dont have jobs, and the insurance industry is going broke, and getting burned by false claims ,,and credit card companies are suffering from people who declare bankruptcy, and pharmaceutical companies are innocent of any wrong doings......the latest poll I took,,suggested that those who were surveyed,,were ready to FREAK OUT!.....It aint pretty!....nope....it just aint pretty

We WON!
The publicity from this and the awareness that is taking place around the world has surpassed anything previous. The D.E.A.th lies are temporarily on the minds of the people and they may choose to remain blissfully ignorant. But time is showing their D.E.A.th lies to more and more. Their Retracting of statements, Federal Czar visits accusing the voters of ignorance if they don't follow orders. Sympathy from grieving children manipulated into the perpetrated war on cannabis competition. The D.E.A.th Wish of Bush Ashcroft Inc.is going out of business. Remember their names. Remember their deeds. And never let them into our legislatures again. Fire the Liars! Picket the Tabloid Fascst repeating the Liars harmful myths. People are witnessing the cruel hard reality of prisons for personal consumption and not dealing with the underlying problems of drug addiction is the evil. Openly profiting on this evil is unheard of in history. People contracting dieseases to "treat" that are totally preventable if hard drug addictions are medically dealt with. But the D.E.A.th prefers "treating" as animals, and using the leverage of torture and caging to obtain snitches to harass others. Spreading disease they will profit on "treating" with the same I.G.Farbin drugs and chemicals. The right wing christians are killing more babies with pesticides than abortions. Pesticides used on non-psychoactive hemp eradication. Pesticides used in the fields of cotton, grain and soy not used on organic, stronger cannabis hemp. The war deaths and the abuses of prisons forced on Americans by International Corporatist Cancers in our Government, for profit. D.E.A.th ripping up plants and stealing computers to obtain list of members to persecute later if they dare speak out or continue serving the public. Many can't face the facts and search and search for Nahas hysteria to stop the cannabis remedies. To keep their co-dependancy jobs "treating" by asylums and drugs or cages, all for profit or standing in the community as someone dealing with the drug problems. Huh you hypocrite murderers! How sick is that? Prison and Treatment Rape and degrading urine test, joblessness and banned from assistance leaves few escapes outside of becoming a dangerous outlaw. Then inevitably caged for real crimes. As preventable as simply stopping the crime of cannabis prohibition. But prevention doesn't profit. "Treatment" profits. Forced shaming and fear are the Robertson Bennett Wally methods that don't work and do make the problems worse. The people will speak loudly on Tuesday. Wally better get some earmuffs. Regardless the outcome. Victory is Ours!Peace, Love and Liberty or D.E.A.th!DdC We can have justice whenever those who have not been injured by injustice are as outraged by it as those who have been. --Solon (594 B.C.)Harry J. The Hype: Brain Damage and Dead Monkeys Naha's Prescription for Bloated Police BudgesIncredibly, a famous study which found that cannabis reduces tumors (see Chapter 7), was originally ordered by the Federal Government on the premise that pot would hurt the immune system. This was based on the "Reefer Madness" studies done by the disreputable Dr. Gabriel Nahas of Columbia University in 1972.This is the same Dr. Nahas who claimed his studies showed pot created chromosome, testosterone (male hormone) damage, and countless other horrible effects which suggested the breaking down of the immune system. Nahas' background is in the OSS/CIA and later the U.S. where he worked closely with Lyndon LaRouche and Kurt Waldheim. In 1998, Nahas is still the darling favorite of the DEA and NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) yet no anti-marijuana studies of Nahas' have every been replicated in countless other research attempts. Columbia University specifically disassociated itself from Nahas' marijuana research in a specially called press conference in 1975!Old, discredited Nahas studies are still trotted out by the Drug Enforcement Administration today, and deliberately given to unknowledgeable parents' groups, churches, and PTAs as valid research regarding the evils of pot.The dissemination of Nahas'* dangerous horror stories is paid for with your tax dollars, even years after the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1976 specifically forbade Nahas from getting another penny of U.S. government money for cannabis studies because of his embarrassing research in the early 1970s.* Nahas, in December 1983, under ridicule from his peers and a funding cut-off from NIDA renounced all his old THC metabolite build-up and unique chromosome petri dish tissue damage studies, conclusions, and extrapolations.Yet the DEA, NIDA, VISTA, the "War on Drugs," and now-deceased writer Peggy Mann (in Reader's Digest articles and her book Marijuana Alert, wilth foreward by Nancy Reagan) have used these discredited studies on parents' groups such as Parents for a Drug Free Youth, etc., often with Nahas as a highly paid guest lecturer, without a word of how his studies are really considered by this peers. This, we assume, is done to scare parents, teachers, legislators and judges, using scientific terminology and bogus non-clinical statistics, ultimately aimed at selling more urine-testing equipment. Therefore, more profits are created for the drug-rehabilitation clinics and their staffs of professionals; and to maintain funding for the DEA, local police, judicial, penal, corrections and other government pork barrel, police state interests. The "War on Drugs" is big money, so the shameless petitioning for more police and more jail cells continues. And we still have thousands of judges, legislators, police, Reader's Digest readers, and parents who have for years used and cited Nahas' studies in particular as the prime reasons to continue these unjust laws and to jail millions of Americans over the last decade. The DEA, after Nahas' 1983 waffling renouncement, consciously and criminally continues to use his studies to polarize ignorant judges, politicians, press, and parent groups, who are unaware of Nahas' denouncement. These groups trust the government to tell them the truth their tax dollars paid for. Most of the media, press, and television commentators still use Nahas' 1970s, unreplicated studies as gospel, and much of the frightening folklore and street myths taht are whispered around school yards spring from the deceitful "scientist's" work.Refuted and never replicated results are still taught, while the honest researcher faces prison if he attempts to test any thoughts about the medical use of cannabis.Continued... http://www.jackherer.com/book/ch15.html'Relax Your Muscles as Much as Possible'

Again I ask, What?
First I so not believe anything in this article. Now how is a reasonable person to figure that the polls that were even a month ago at 48-48-4 are now at 60% in favor? You mean people that figured the laws needed changing changed their mind? I don't think so. If one side was soft it is the brainwashed side. Then after saying they have a 60% block of madmen wanting more failure and imprisonment, they say it is going to be close. What is close about 60%? There is no lie the prohibitionist will not tell and I do not find this article truthful. No matter correctness, this article is still a weak attempt at covering the cannabis issue for the Sunday edition of the Washington Pissingpost. We were stuck on 73% of Americans beliving in medical marijuana. In 6 months of propaganda we can now say that 80% have come to reality. Now if they have a poll in 6 more months who could possibly think that these people would change their mind. I use this article to personally conclude that the Washington Post is a fascist paper out to further the fascist cause. The measure will pass and I guess the Post can report that the 60% was defeated by 62%. Things at the fascist presses don't have to add up.Prohibition kills. Prohibitionists are murderers. 1
