"Despicable," "cynical," and "shameful" were some of the words the country's drug-control chief used Wednesday to describe an Arizona ballot initiative that would decriminalize marijuana. Surrounded by members of the media at a midtown drug-rehab center, U.S. "Drug Czar" John P. Walters claimed Arizona residents don't understand the dangers of Proposition 203.
The ballot initiative would make small amounts of marijuana subject to a civil fine and make it harder for courts to send people to jail for using any illegal drug. "It's a kind of cynical insult to the citizens of this state," said Walters, speaking at Vida Serena, 2835 N. Stone Ave. Walters cited a national household drug-abuse survey that shows 3.6 million Americans need marijuana-addiction treatment, and he said today's marijuana is many times more potent than the stuff smoked by baby boomers in the 1960s and 1970s. "Americans do not understand this, and these initiatives depend on that ignorance," Walters said. Proposition 203 also would require the state police to give confiscated marijuana free to people with a doctor's recommendation, though police say there's no way they'll do that. Here's the LTE
Czar John Walters uses strong words -
"despicable" "cynical" "shameful"
to attack Prop. 203 which limits government powers to arrest and imprison peaceful Cannabis users. ('Drug Czar' denounces Proposition 203, Tucson Citizen Oct. 9, 2002.) Nationwide, many have come to associate such words with un-ending streams of propaganda spewed from various drug-czars with the perverse aim of extending the Failed War on Drugs.Walters' inappropriate habit of using federal tax-payer money to campaign in local elections is worthy of all of those words and more! How ironic that only hours after the story of his tirade was posted on the Tuscon Citizen web site, another - more telling story - was also posted: "Border Patrol veteran pleads guilty to accepting bribes" (Oct. 9, 2002)Walters' words are correct, but let them be applied to the proper subject as they perfectly describe his despicable, cynical, shameful and let me add, corrupting War on Drugs!VitaminT

Right words wrong target
"Despicable," "cynical," and "shameful" are some of the words the drug-czar is closely associated with . . . And worthy of! But it's no small irony that shortly after this story was posted to the Tuscon Citizen web site, the following was also posted:
___________________________________________________________"Border Patrol veteran pleads guilty to accpeting bribes""A 24-year U.S. Border Patrol veteran plead guilty in federal court today to selling classified information to drug traffickers for $3,000, authorities said."
___________________________________________________________Walters is on target with his words but he should be using them to describe his despicable, cynical, shameful and let me add, corrupting War on Drugs!

The "P" sounds familiar!
John P. Walters = Rosco P. Coltraine !!They are about the same in mental ability and tenacity. But, just as Rosco can never get the Duke Boys, Johnnie will never get the Drug Free America he is paid by the Sheeple to strive for!>"Americans do not understand this, and these initiatives depend on that ignorance," Walters said. Either he is the dumbest person alive, or the shrewdest operator since Anslinger and Hearst. I tend to lean toward the former.I vote for Prosecutor Booker as "Enos"!ENOS, YOU DIPSTICK, I TOLD YOU NOT TO BRING UP YOUR CARTEL ACCUSATION DANG NABBIT! NOW WE'LL HAVE TO GET DEPUTY CLEETUS IN THERE AND TELL BUSH HOGG WE CAN'T GET THE SHEEPLE TO STOP SMOKING POT JUST YET! I'LL GET THEM TO STOP MYSELF! GI-GI-GI! ROLL MORE STUPID ADS! PUT BILLBOARDS IN FRONT OF EVERY SCHOOL! TELL THEM POT IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN 'SHINE AND TABACKY AND, UNLIKE THOSE SAFE AND SANE DIVERSIONS, WILL MAKE THEM MURDEROUS VEGETABLES AND ADDICT THEM FOR LIFE! I'LL BRAINWASH THEM DOGGONE SHEEPLE IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO! GI-GI-GI-GI!

the rest of the article ...
Sam Vagenas, a spokesman for the proposition's supporters, said Arizona voters know what they're doing. The state passed a medical-marijuana initiative in 1996 and shot down the Legislature's attempts to repeal part of the law in 1998.
"I think it's an insult for him to be here saying the voters of Arizona are misinformed," Vagenas said.
A handful of marijuana advocates, including a Libertarian candidate for the Legislature, held signs and waved at cars outside the center during Walters' speech.
Walters' official title is Director of the White House Office of National Control Policy. He previously worked in the office in the early 1990s as Deputy Director for Supply Reduction.
