A prosecutor has suggested a drug cartel backs efforts to legalize possession of up to 3 ounces of marijuana in Nevada. But an advocate for the proposal says the statement is"an outright lie, slanderous and libelous."Billy Rogers, spokesman for Nevadans for Responsible Law Enforcement, adds that Gary Booker, a chief deputy district attorney in Clark County,"ought to have his mouth washed out with soap."
Booker appeared before the state Board of Health on Friday to urge its opposition to Question 9 on the November ballot. The board agreed, saying the legalization of marijuana was a"clear and present danger to the public safety and health"of Nevada.Rogers, who represents the group that gathered the signatures to put the question on the ballot, wasn't invited to testify. At the board meeting, Booker suggested the marijuana campaign was tied to people connected with organized crime."In a word, cartel,"said Booker, adding that the proposal has nothing to do with medical marijuana and"would put the state in the business of drug peddling."Rogers countered that Booker has"a long record of lying"about the proposition and"will say anything to scare people."He said Booker gave out false information that marijuana seeds were available from the state Department of Agriculture for those who are in medical need, that Rogers smoked marijuana and that the proposed amendment would abolish all drunken driving laws.Rogers said the initiative would protect people who want to use marijuana in their own homes, and would help those under a doctor's care. The proposal would ban smoking of marijuana while driving or driving under the influence of the drug, he said. It would also allow the state to license and regulate the sale of marijuana to adults. So far his campaign has spent $1 million, which includes about $400,000 for gathering signatures on the initiative petition, Rogers said.Complete Title: Cartel Remark Angers Nevada Pot-Initiative AdvocateSource: Associated Press Published: October 7, 2002 Copyright: 2002 Associated Press Related Articles & Web Sites:NRLEhttp://www.nrle.org/Marijuana Policy Projecthttp://www.mpp.org/Question 9 Promoter Not Just Blowin' Smokehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14366.shtmlHealth Board Opposes Ballot Question http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14362.shtmlNevada Could Be Drug Haven if Question 9 Passeshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread14344.shtml

...cause the drug task force stress. (woah)
SOME ANSWERS, PLEASE State budget shortages are causing major cutbacks in corrections and other important public programs. In the fiscal year July 1, 2001-June 30, 2002, approximately 39 percent of Payne County felony cases were non-violent with drug charges. That is a large amount of tax money to prosecute non-violent drug use. The Drug Policy Forum invited our district drug task force to give a presentation. We were told that approval by the district attorney is required. Our invitation was rejected. We were told it would cause the drug task force stress. Now wait a minute! The drug task force speaks to other groups. Furthermore, they are under stress far beyond any questions we could ask. They face armed "criminals" during drug raids. Why are we, as tax-paying citizens, not given the privilege of a presentation? Both candidates for district attorney are invited to a public discussion of drug policy issues Oct. 9, 7 p.m. at The Strode Hospitality Center, 324 W. Seventh. Candidate Steve Holcombe has agreed to speak. The current district attorney has not accepted the invitation. Prosecution of non-violent drug users is a major expense. We need answers. Absurd is the word
That's like saying Al Capone supported the 21st Amendment.

The exact opposite
"A prosecutor has suggested a drug cartel backs efforts to legalize possession of up to 3 ounces of marijuana in Nevada." I find it funny that in reality, the truth is the exact opposite. All marijuana drug cartels would be put out of business with a stroke of a pen. Something 30 years of loss of life, pain, and tax dollars could never do. In fact, the drug cartels would be in suport of the current drug laws. Tell me how it benefits drug cartels when marijuana is no longer worth it's weight in gold. IT DOESN'T!!!!

We are good people, now.
,"ought to have his mouth washed out with soap." So use the good hemp based soap.Oh, there is a cartel, alright. They are responsible for caging how many people for simply using a plant? It is difficult, to slather lower than a prohibitionist. You take one of Christ, God's children and put Him in a cage for choosing to use cannabis, and You are not a friend of Our Fathers.Along those same lines, killing is right up there with the bad sins. You know who has actually perhaps killed more Americans than any other American. Why, that's George Bushit, Gov. of Texas, who killed through the death penalty, like, for sport. You know who's 2nd?Jeb Bushit, as Florida's Gov.Aint that the bushits? The Bible tells Us to test the spirits. In many ways, We do not have to test them, for many already make their spirits known. The Bible speaks unkindly of bad genealogy. As We go about Our lives attempting to love Our brothers even as Christ loved Us, notice how that is different from killing Your brother.Have Christ. Just don't claim Christ, amongst Your orgy of killing and caging, for Christ asked for otherwise. It was important to Him, for if You do not obey, You do not get the promised access to the new teacher, Holy Spitit of Truth, which makes Truth known. He died, in order for Us to know Him, right now.
