TURNING IT ALL UPSIDE DOWN After the 1950s got back to business, it came time to question reality. On the great light show of world history, the Bay Area slid into focus. Free Speech, Flower Power, public protest, letting it hang out. It all started here.
PART SIX: THE '60S AND THE '70S A century ago, California had only one real city and a population that ranked 21st in the United States. Today, it is the nation's most populous state, and its economy is the seventh-largest in the world. This is the sixth of a seven-part series, the California Century, that follows this transformation. Turning It All Upside Down!
Hi Tom,Yes, Cannabis News really is designed for short comments and adding links to the article. Can't you see the click on link to the article at the top of the story? I guess I don't understand what it is like to see in text only. I try to visualize it but I just can't get it. It is a very good article and you are missing a few great pictures too. One is:The Grateful Dead at Haight and Ashbury early in their career. Photo by Herb Greene, Special to the Chronicle Another one is:Police turned hoses on protesters at San Francisco's City Hall during a hearing of the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1960. Another is:A member of the antiwar Viet Nam Day Committee tried to stop a troop train in Berkeley. United Press International Photo, 1965 Another is:Demonstrators were dragged down the staircase of City Hall. Chronicle File Photo There are a few more and I have to take a few minutes tonight and really read it thru!Peace, FoM!PS: Here is the updated link to the MMM News! It now includes an hour and 36 minute Video of the Seattle Hempfest MMM and Rally from CRRH! Cool!

Pasting URLs in comments and in Interactive Links
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/cnews/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1999/05/23/SC02SUN.DTL---URL above is for SF Gate source article. It is too long tobe autoconverted correctly in these comments or in the linkbox below. I DID finally paste it in correctly into the InteractiveLinks System. System link can be found off the Cannabis.comhome page: http://www.cannabis.com

Ronald 6 Wilson 6 Reagan 6. and THE FORCE.
It seems that many of the political players of the next 40years of the U.S. Drug War were in the Bay Area back then. Both good and bad. Or both the light and dark sides of the force! :-)And Ron Bennett, I tried pasting the URL for the article sourcedirectly into the Interactive Links System with no luck. It is in the political section.I had to paste in the link to this FoM page instead. I will alsotry the source link in the link box below too. But first, here is a link with some info about 666 Reagan's drug war. The incarceration rate has tripled since Reagan and the dark side of the Force (Nancy Reagan) were inaugurated co-presidents in January 1981. JUST SAY KNOW!!http://homepages.go.com/homepages/m/a/r/marthag1/index.htmhttp://members.tripod.com/~FOM2/index.htm*TABLES & Charts. [against Drug War. Click table of contents names, not TOC URLs. Several INTERNATIONAL charts, too].| =============================================================================================== I tried pasting in the long article source URL into the link box below, but it wouldn't even fit. It fit into the Interactive links, but didn't work. So use the SF Gate link at the top of this webpage is the only way to get to this great article. Plus there are links on the source page to even more Bay Area history and stats.
