Conference Report & Other Business!Hello everyone: Aside from me being quoted in the Hartford piece, that might have floored some - it surely did me and I'm sorry that it happened in such a fashion - oh well and it's onward!
It was amusing if not horrifying - I accept full responsibility as I knew darn well I was talking to a reporter... enough said on that, it makes me have a sour stomach every time I think about it. Forgive me if any offense was taken. The DPF conference was a wonderful experience and we were well represented. Tom and I were there as well as Tyree Callahan, Debbie Duncan, Elaine and Cary from North Carolina (they don't have email). Tyree and Debbie can write reports of their own... (hint, hint - send to Ashley for posting at cheechwz mindspring.com) We have some legislation that will be introduced by Maxine Waters and Charles Rangel & Barney Frank that is going to take work to support. I promise to send you the info as soon as we have all the details and in time to get our ducks in a row. This year is going to be a humdinger - and that is a promise. We really need any folks on this list to email: tom november.org if you are at all interested in supporting coming projects. Do you want your loved ones home? Well, we need your help right now. I've been in this mess for 10 years now and never before have we had so much hope of change. Be sure to get a copy of Glamour magazine and Redbook as we worked with both of these articles. June issues so they are on your newsstands now. I was also quoted in a June Playboy piece called "Snitch Culture". Many other magazines had major WOD articles too: Rolling Stone, Harpers, National Review and others. Paul Lewin is now on our board of directors and will be our National Campaigns Director, so those of you working with vigils will now have more technical support. Paul is in Los Angeles at the moment and is representing us and Common Sense for Drug Policy at the: Los Angeles Citizens' Fact Finding Commission on US Drug Policy on Saturday & Sunday, May 22 & 23. This is on the University of So California Campus on West 34th Street. There is no fee. It starts at 9am at 201 Taper Hall. If you live in LA, we hope that you will attend and forgive me for not posting this info earlier. There is huge progress being made, from Industrial Hemp issues to our own angle of the issue - prisoners of the Drug War. The entire gamut is being pounded. Paul will be posting a Vigil Project update when he returns early next week. Please, if you have an interest in this project, let us know if you already have not. A public showing of our numbers is very important right now. We are coordinating this effort. The mail (snail mail) is really pouring in right now and so we are swamped. Thank you for all of you who have been supporting our work. We have requests for a lot of boxes of the current issue of the Razor Wire - if anyone can spare a few bucks to help us with shipping costs it will be greatly appreciated. We are also working with an NBC producer who traveled from NY to Wa DC last weekend just to meet and talk with us, so if we aren't real vocal in the coming weeks, it is because we are working to gather case histories for upcoming news specials. Thank you to all who have sent money in the past months - we are a bit behind in communications and thank yous - we don't mean to not give out the thank yous and praise for what many of you do in our common struggle - it's just getting real and continues to keep us at a frantic pace. Stayed tuned for Paul's vigil posts and if anyone has any questions - fire them off to Tom as we are back in the saddle now and in the thick of things. My love to you all!
