While the number of cannabis activists did not reach actually seven digits at San Francisco's Million Marijuana March, certainly tens of thousands took to the streets in support of peoples' rights to freely grow and use the world's most useful plant.
The Pacific Coast's version of this international celebration was staged at SF's United Nations Plaza, in the shadow of City Hall, and drew a typically colorful Bay Area multitude."We're changing our approach," offers Chris Conrad, prolific author and expert marijuana courtroom witness, who helped coordinate the SF MMM: "Instead of just focusing on industrial hemp or medical marijuana, we're tying this into the civil-rights movement, that adult cannabis users should have equal rights under the law."Click the above link to read the whole story!

marajuana protests
I hate to sound pessimistic, but am I the only one who is starting to think that the protests are being ignored? How long have people been protesting now? 40 years? 45?Has anything really changed? The "United" States has an incarceration rate that would embarass China. So we go out and protest and demonstrate; patting ourselves on the back for fighing valiantly. Looks more like laying in the foetal position and waiting for our opposition to get tired of kicking us in the head. How did the african-americans get that offensive southern flag lowered? Large scale boycotts and other economic sanctions.I think it is time we stopped kidding ourselves. Our cute little displays of our ability to walk around in groups isn't impressing anyone but us. I say hit them in the only place they feel it: their bankroll. Perhaps a series of organized, large-scale boycotts will get our point across. I do not mean anyone in the movement any disrespect. I did not submit this to offend. But at the same time-WHEN DO WE START FIGHTING?!?

San Francisco shows the way. As usual.
Hello Tom!We need everyone to be united and stop the nonsense that hurts change! If one group of people fixes their mind on a one way only even their cause will be stifled by it! We need to broaden our minds and really think about the whole picture and put our own petty ideas in the right prospective!Peace, FoM!PS: This story is now on the MMM News! Ron put this page in the highlight section of Cannabis News for easy access!I put this story at the top of the page because of it being a late entry!

The wide variety of speakers and the large crowd shows thegreat potential for well-organized rallies and events. Checkout the full article in order to be able to click on manylinks that High Times added to the article. That way you cancheck out in further detail the groups and speakers involved. This should show the broad nature of this type of activism. We need all types of activism, from supporting only medicalcannabis all the way to much broader cannabis and drug reform.Someone has to push the boundaries while others get moremoderate legislation passed. Both types of activism are needed. Moderates can point to "those radicals" and honestly say that their proposed legislation is sensible in comparison. Fun to play both roles from time to time. :-)
