Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alfredo Gutierrez on Friday announced he supports Proposition 203, a drug-policy initiative that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana."The voters have already approved similar measures twice, and they should vote for it again this year," the former state senator said.
Proposition 203 would make possession of 2 ounces or less of marijuana a civil violation punishable by a fine of no more than $250 instead of a low-level felony. The fine could be waived by taking a drug education class. The measure also would allow doctors to recommend, rather than prescribe, marijuana for qualifying patients. Doctors who want to prescribe marijuana under Arizona's 1996 law have been discouraged by threats of federal criminal charges."It is time for law enforcement to stop, look and - most of all - listen," Gutierrez said. "This train can't be stopped because the people support it."Gutierrez also said he opposes Proposition 302. That referendum would allow judges to order jail time for drug-law violators who refuse treatment or commit another drug offense while on probation.Proposition 302 was put on the ballot by the Legislature at the urging of Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley, while Proposition 203 was a citizen initiative. On the Web:Gutierrez campaign: http://www.alfredo2002.comSource: Associated Press Published: Friday, August 16, 2002 Copyright: 2002 Associated Press Related Articles:Marijuana Initiative Qualifies for Arizona Ballothttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread13727.shtmlPot Battle Looming for State http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread12717.shtml

Way to go Governor
"This train can't be stopped because the people support it."Yes, it is a train that will not stop. How can everyone not be upset at the politicians ignoring 73% of the people that want MMJ. And it is not even in the conglomerate media that we are being ignored and everyone else lied to. We are ignored by the corrupted powers and the corrupted press and people are not outraged. I am outraged that everyone else is just going BWWWAAAA as is often said of the sheep being herded by the wolves.I thought the Friday show of the Kubbys at pot-tv was all but a celebration of the restoration of freedom coming to Canada. It was interesting what their resident Doctor from Colorado had to say about the cannabanoids that attatch to the type 2 receptor and protect our nerves from damage and even attack certain cancers. Cannabis is prevention and further research that isolates exact cannabanoids is really going to kill the prohibitionist murderers. Well maybe it will kill their call to public service. The civil war continues and yet Busch will not speak of MMJ. Some president I'd say. More traitor than defender of the constitution I would say. Damned, every time I start a train of thought it always comes back to "HANG THEM ALL."1,2
