WASILLA The only hint the blue-trimmed three-story home on Bartlett Circle is being sold in anything but the usual manner is the sign in the front yard. Instead of sporting the name and colors of a local real estate firm, this one reads "U.S. Department of Treasury."
Until a year ago, the house inthis quiet cul-de-sac off the Palmer-Wasilla Highway belonged to Ernest and Judy Chase, a seemingly everyday couple with kids. Then Ernest Chase was arrested and convicted on a federal drug charge for growing marijuana. His house became government property and a potential revenue source for police. Today, officials will auction off the house. The three bedroom, two-bathroom house and the three acres it sits on is valued at $200,000. The proceeds will be split between a half dozen law enforcement agencies that worked on the case, including the Alaska State Troopers and the Wasilla and Palmer police departments.
